Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” from A24 will follow the precedent set by Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell” last year and will not be competing in the best picture categories, instead it will be considered in foreign language film because it is primarily in Korean. Stars Steven Yeun and Yeri Han will still be eligible in the leading acting categories in drama. (via Variety)

Abed and the meaning of the giant hand
Abed:
I have discovered the meaning of the giant hand. A hand has two functions; to grip and to release. But without both of these powers it is useless. Like newborn infants we grab what comes near us. Hoping to control it, taste it, jam it into another child's eye.
But the time we spend in control of our world is the time we spend letting go of others. Ideas, stories, pride, girls in soft sweaters, video games, buttered noodles... Grip one for too long and you lose so much that you've never held.
This giant hand was sent to all of us as an invitation to increase our mastery over the power to hold on.
And let go.

“Chaos already dominates enough of our lives, the universe is an endless raging sea of randomness. Our job isn’t to fight it but to weather it together. On the raft of life, a raft held together by those few, rare, beautiful things that we know to be predictable”

“To love someone else is easy, but to love what you are, the thing that is yourself, is just as if you were embracing a glowing, red-hot iron; it burns into you and that is very painful. Therefore, to love somebody else in the first place is always an escape which we all hope for, and we all enjoy it when we are capable of it. But in the long run, it comes back on us. You cannot stay away from yourself forever. You have to return, have to come to that experiment, to know whether you really can love. That is the question - whether you can love yourself. And that will be the test.”
— Carl Jung

Untitled
“There is a path of land that exists
Beyond the sea and the sky.
It is behind the mountains,
Past even the hills -
Those of luscious green that
Roll up into the heavens.
I have been there with you.
It is not big, although not too small.
Perhaps you could perch a house on its width,
But we have never considered it.
What would be the use?
We already live there.
When the night closes
And the city stills,
I am there with you.
Our mouths laughing, our heads vacant
Of all but what is.
And what is? I ask.
This, you say. You and I, here.”
- Rebecca Serle, In Five Years.

— You punks! Get out of the way! Take the sidewalk!
I think he wished us a happy new year by advising that we take the sidewalk. Thank you for the blessing. I shall not harm you. Happy New Year. Because we are awesome.
