Watch and Warning
Summary: The heroes have ended up at Lon Lon Ranch right in the middle of tornado season. Some aren't as willing to shelter in place, and a few hours spent in a basement with a dozen people isn't fun for anyone.
Words: 1300
AO3
Characters are from @thatbrokenpromise
The air was heavy with rain and unease. Lon Lon Ranch was safe, for the most part, stone walls protecting those inside from monsters and human enemies alike. The land was open to the elements, however, and the weather was nasty today. Thunder didn’t usually make Rabbit flinch, but this storm was unusually violent. He didn’t like it, and whenever he saw one of his companions he could tell that they felt the same.
“How has the weather been recently, Malon?” Skyloft asked softly, his hands wrapped around a mug of tea.
“Cold,” their host said with a bitter frown. “It warmed up as soon as you dropped in, which isn’t a good sign this time of year.”
“That’s a trigger for tornadoes, right?” Rabbit said. “Is there a place we can shelter if it gets bad?”
“We have a basement, yes,” Malon said. “Do you mind checking that everyone is nearby? I’d like to call everyone in quick if it comes to it.”
“Of course,” Rabbit agreed, and stood to search the house.
Most of them were inside, talking or mending their gear or setting up their sleeping mats. Rabbit completed his headcount by the time he found Far, Chief, and Hateno gathered on the front porch. Rabbit closed the door behind him and they watched the storm for a silent few minutes. The wind was strong, tearing dark clouds across the sky and sending rain in all directions.
“Looks pretty cool,” Far said, almost shouting to be heard over the storm.
Hateno took a step forward, halted by Chief’s hand closed around his. He shot the medic an annoyed look as lightning struck, followed by instant thunder. Rabbit jumped, stumbling into Far who wrapped an arm around him.
“Do you need to go back inside?”
Rabbit swallowed hard, staring into the storm. “We all do,” he said, loud enough for Chief and Hateno to hear. “Malon thinks a tornado could form soon, we should head to the basement.”
“I’ve never seen a real tornado before,” Hateno said, a disturbing lack of fear in his voice.
“And it’s not happening today,” Chief snapped. “Those things pick up trains. The aftermath is…” he shuddered and trailed off.
The wind picked up, and Rabbit shielded his face from the rain. “Come on, it’s safer inside.”
He led the way, Chief practically dragging Hateno in behind them. Far was at the rear, and lingered to look out a window instead. Malon and Skyloft were nowhere to be found, and Kokiri waved them over to the basement door.
“Where’s Malon?” Rabbit asked, letting the other two descend first.
“She’ll be back soon. Everyone else is downstairs,” Kokiri said helpfully. He looked worried, something that was rare to see and Rabbit wasn’t comforted by it.
“Woah, the sky’s green!” Far exclaimed, and Hateno nearly bolted back up the stairs.
“Come on!” Rabbit and Chief snapped simultaneously, and between them got Hateno fully down into the basement.
It wasn’t the biggest space, but there was enough room that they didn’t have to squeeze in shoulder-to-shoulder. Ordon was handing blankets to Outset, who wrapped them around himself and Skyloft. Four was inspecting the stores of food while Smith ran nervous hands down her braid. A familiar aura suggested that Minish was hiding under the stairs. Prince stopped his pacing to go to Chief, placing a hand on his shoulder in relief.
Rabbit turned around to see Far join them, then Malon and finally Kokiri. Baby Draga was in Malon’s arms, fussing and upset that she had been woken from her nap. Malon went to sit against the wall, quickly convincing Draga to settle down. Kokiri wasn’t as easily convinced, and set to pacing around the room while Prince took his place at the top of the stairs. Rabbit sat beside Far, and Ordon settled on his other side.
Maybe, sitting between them, he would stop shaking.
Kokiri paced, around and around and checking things that didn’t need to be checked. He passed Malon, wove through the other heroes, went up the stairs to talk to Prince and touch the door and began his cycle again. Rabbit felt restless just watching him, and after a while Malon stood and blocked his path.
“Just take her,” she said firmly, and Kokiri shook his head and tried to protest but Malon was pressing Draga into his arms. Kokiri froze for a moment, then retreated to the far corner of the basement to hunch protectively around his daughter.
Rabbit released a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. Malon was truly one of the few people who understood Kokiri.
Of course, the peace didn’t last. Hateno growled something under his breath, and all of the attention snapped to the center of the room as he raised his right arm with a flash of green light. Before he could follow through, Chief tackled him to the ground and held him there.
“Don’t you fucking dare what if the house collapses on top of you?!”
“I want to see what’s happening, not be trapped in here!” Hateno argued, squirming beneath the heavier man.
“And what if the winds take you away? What if we get moved? I don’t know about you but I’m not in the mood to kidnap the baby,” Chief hissed.
Kokiri’s cold glare was too much for Rabbit to meet, and Hateno only lasted a moment before he groaned and pressed his face to the floor. “Fine.”
The wind picked up, and Draga began to cry in earnest. Kokiri looked ready to panic, then Malon knelt beside him and sang a soft lullaby that soothed the child to quiet whimpers. Malon rested her head on Kokiri’s shoulder, and he closed his eyes and let her.
The next hour or so passed in relative silence while the storm raged above them. Chief continued to sit on Hateno’s back, mindlessly braiding and unbraiding his long hair. Rabbit was still nestled between Far and Ordon, his fear diminished now that he could see that they were all safe. A few of them got up to stretch, but there was none of the restless pacing from before. They were content to wait it out- or at least, most of them were.
When Outset left Skyloft’s side, he went straight to the stairs. Prince stared down at him, unamused, and Ordon translated aloud as Prince signed.
“I know you’re ready to leave, but the storm isn’t gone yet,” Prince said. “It isn’t safe.”
“We can’t stay down here forever!” Outset argued, and Hateno sounded his agreement from the floor.
“Skyloft looks cold,” Prince signed instead. “Can you see if he needs another blanket?”
Outset scoffed, but his desire for freedom didn’t outweigh the worry for his friend. He made his way back to Skyloft, who had a bright look in his eyes that led Rabbit to believe that he knew exactly what Prince wanted. Outset, none the wiser, plopped down and was instantly beset by a cuddly Skyloft. Outset squawked, but didn’t have the heart to push him away and was promptly smothered.
More time passed, and finally the storm moved on. Prince, Far, and Hateno were the first to scout outside and returned with the all clear. Ordon coaxed Minish out of hiding and went to help Skyloft up the stairs, and Rabbit followed the others out of the basement.
Thank all the gods, the house was still standing. There was still a light rain shimmering against the sunset, and Rabbit opted to stay inside rather than check for damage. Hateno ascended through the ceiling to survey the roof and stayed there, still upset that he hadn’t been allowed to brave the storm by himself. Kokiri gave Draga back to Malon and left to see Hyrule Field, returning after a while to report a path of destruction that had miraculously avoided any major settlements. Rabbit offered to hold the baby while Malon sorted out dinner, listening to her plan to visit Kakariko and Castle Town. Draga fell asleep in his arms, content despite the earlier scare, and Rabbit felt the same. Everyone was in one piece, and all was well.

Y'all got lucky, I managed to do new headshots for everyone for this Pride! The whole main That Broken Promise cast, with their respective pride flags. (Whether they were up to smiling or not LOL.)
Full list of who's what under the cut, but the uncommon flags are Disability pride (Skyloft, Outset), Agender (Chief), BDSM pride (Ordon), and Intersex (Four, Hateno).
Character designs @thatbrokenpromise
Skyloft = Skyward Sword = Bisexual, disability pride (...fucked up) Minish = Minish Cap/Four Swords = Non-binary, demisexual Kokiri = Ocarina of Time/MM = Trans, Bisexual Outset = Wind Waker/PH = Queer, disability pride (blind) Chief = Spirit Tracks/TFH/HW = Agender, Asexual Ordon = Twilight Princess = Bisexual, BDSM pride (masochist) Four = FSA = Intersex (genetic mosaicism), Queer Prince = Hyrule Warriors/TFH = Trans, Gay Rabbit = LttP/OoX/LA = Trans, Bisexual Smith = Link bt Worlds/ TFH = Trans woman Far = Zelda 1 & 2 = Pansexual Hateno = BOTK = Intersex (CAIS), Pansexual
Couldn't figure out a Poly Pride flag I liked so that got left off/didn't want to do some with three. The weirder flag choices (disability, bdsm) are because they're major features of those characters and important stuff to me personally!
Hope y'all enjoy!

I lied, apparently I got headshots of everyone done but i'll post it later bc tired and long day. But I'll aim to do some full-body shots of the ones who won the poll!!
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Happy Pride!!
My ability to draw isn't the most consistent, so in an attempt to guide myself to get at least ONE of these mf'ers done let's have a poll!
For those curious, some term explanations & Four's colours orientations under the cut.
Some of Four are cis and some are trans, due to the type of intersex they are (genetic mosaicism) which interacts... strangely with the way they split as does their other genetic condition (albinism)
Green = Cis male, Bi Blue = Trans female, Straight [She is physically afab but due to them being raised male her experience *is* that of being a trans woman who just got lucky] Red = Cis male, Ace Vio = Trans male, Bisexual Shadow = Agender, Demisexual (only into Vio)
Hateno is AIS, with medical abuse involved so he is also stone which means he does not desire reciprocal sexual touch with partners.

Did a proper redraw of my old "Came Back Wrong" /Bad Ending Spirit Tracks Link. With things set up to match how he'll appear in That Broken Promise -- I'm finally calling a Spirit Tracks Link "Spirit" for slightly obvious reasons here.
Link lost the fight against Malladus, but he didn't die. He pieced himself together as best he could afterwards, but where Malladus wound up taking him and Zelda... He's not sure.
(The gang in @thatbrokenpromise aren't sure where the fuck they showed up either. Did he destroy the world or simply leave it...? and will they survive to leave, too?)
But I haven't written that part yet <3

What other Dynamics would you like to explore between any of the links that you really haven't explored before?
Hrm with this crew, I think the main thing I need to start working on is their friendships outside the pre-established ones. So far First Cycle has largely been conflict and sticking with already set roles. Outset and Skyloft have had quite a bit of time together in a few stories, but I do need to work on actually establishing how the rest of the group divides themselves.
I'm not sure if I've posted this anywhere, but I do know they have a fairly rigid sleeping arrangement: Prince, Kokiri, Smith, and Chief in one tent (War of Eras and Hytopia group, who already knew each other), Hateno, Skyloft, Outset in another because they have to be able to sleep with bright light so Outset can see at all if woken suddenly, and Ordon, Minish, and Rabbit in a third. Four and Far swap between those two tents which almost certainly is forging different relationships by itself.
(Not least of which, at some point I have to write how the threesome of Ordon, Rabbit, and Far started to be a threesome. I've done Rabbit and Ordon, but not either of them with Far yet.)
Some of this will include things like escalating conflict: I haven't yet included that Rabbit dreamwalks in TBP canon but he does and that will be an unpleasant surprise if it comes out at the wrong time. Another complication will be adding Ravio to the group for a time, which increases pressure due to crowding -- and Four deserves a moment to be a complete ass to someone for no good reason, after all.
Second Cycle is gonna be a good place for people to start sniping at each other, but there's a large portion of this story that I fully intend to lean into friendship and forgiveness and community, and that definitely is going to need a lot of work to build in the space I have!
Thank you so much for your question! I hope that covers what you had in mind.

Don't worry. Everything's gonna be fine...
Far just might have wanted to mention the dolls a little sooner.

I think I just never posted this apparently...
Glass Chief from @thatbrokenpromise AU, a "Bad Ending" Spirit Tracks Link who pulled himself back together after losing that final fight... at least initially.
Whether he wins trying again remains to be seen.

This is so sweet!! Thank you!
I Still Trust You
Summary: The Four Sword has changed Link into something not entirely hylian anymore, and Zelda has just rescued him from the cruel royal doctors. Now they have a chance to just breathe and recover together.
Words: 790
AO3
Zelda paced around her room, more than just upset. She was furious with the way that Link had been treated away from her supervision. She had warned the doctors that he couldn’t speak, and they had taken full advantage of his inability to stand up for himself. She had been terrified for him when the sword had done something to his body, but had it been wrong to rush him to the healers? No, Link had been hurting for so long, he deserved to be treated. Just… not like that.
They were going to have to search for a new set of royal doctors.
“Link?” Zelda called. “Are you doing okay?”
She didn’t mean to fuss over him, but she would never forgive herself if he passed out in the bathtub.
As expected, he didn’t answer out loud, but a splash of water confirmed that he was fine. Fine, and enjoying his well-earned bath. Zelda hadn’t seen much, but it had been impossible to ignore how he limped alongside her, barely able to stay upright. She hoped that it eased the pain of whatever the magic had done to his legs.
“Thank you,” she said. “I’ll… be here whenever you’re done. Please take your time.”
She knew it was far from the first time she had said so, but she still meant it. She sighed and turned to absently touch the tray she had requested for her bed. She didn’t know how well Link had been eating, especially since he had woken up, and she hoped that he would appreciate the bowls of fruits and tea.
There was more splashing, and Zelda waited anxiously until Link finally emerged. He looked tired, leaning heavily on the doorframe, and she rushed to support him so they could walk to her bed. He murmured wordless thanks and sat, cautiously pulling his legs close to him. He made a face and laid his tail over his lap, running his fingers through the wet hair at the end.
Zelda sat opposite him, trying not to stare too openly. It was the last thing Link needed right now but it wasn’t like she had ever seen a hylian with a tail before…
Link noticed anyway. His face, already flushed from the heat of the bath, darkened furthur and Zelda saw his tail twitch under his hands.
“Are you feeling better?” Zelda asked, and watched him relax. “I asked for some food, if you’re hungry.”
Link nodded eagerly, his tail momentarily forgotten as he reached for the food. Zelda laughed quietly and passed the tray to him, making sure they didn’t spill tea on the blankets. Between the two of them, the tray was soon picked clean.
Link stifled a yawn, then glanced nervously at Zelda. Was he afraid that she would kick him out, after everything she had done to help him? She didn’t care if she got in trouble for it. For goddesses’ sake, he was already on the bed.
“You can lay down if you’re tired,” she told him gently, and Link practically melted in relief. He dropped and curled up on the spot, then made a shy noise and held out a hand to Zelda. She hesitated only a moment before she took his hand and joined him.
It had been years since they were this close, and she always forgot how small he was beside her. Link happily snuggled closer, fitting comfortably against her. He pressed his face into her neck and sighed, making her giggle at the feeling of his breath on her skin. Link made a sort of bright vocalization that Zelda could only describe as a chirp, and he reached for her hand to fidget with. Their fingers intertwined, his thumb tracing mindless patterns across her palm.
With her free hand, Zelda carefully touched Link’s hair. He squeaked, but quickly leaned into her touch and she hoped that it was an invitation to continue. She ran her fingers through loose curls and a low rumbling sound almost made her stop immediately. Did Link not like that after all? But no, he hadn’t pulled away and he was squeezing her hand now more than ever, and she realized-
“Oh,” she breathed. “You’re purring.”
Link was too content to respond, or perhaps even notice, and Zelda bit back her awed squealing. His purrs, strong and steady, grew louder as she gently tucked his hair behind what remained of his ear. Something soft landed over their clasped hands with a thump, and Zelda nearly cried of relief when she realized that Link trusted her enough to rest with his tail between them.
Everything that had hurt them seemed so far away now, and the only thing that mattered in this moment was their shared closeness.

The Light
Engie sits with the Hero and the Princess after the Battle of the Triforce, and he doesn't like what he's dealing with. Training for natural disasters and industry accidents just isn't the same as war.
Rated M for brief but severe gore, and a bit of existential despair.
Prompt: TBP Chief/ Overwhelmed Caretaker
Also on AO3
IIII
The tent was dark, and Captain and the Princess were both still breathing.
It should have been a comfort. It wasn't. If he lit the lamp again he could see the damage clearly. Likely, he could watch it pulling itself together... but if he lit the lamp, the flickering edges of the Triforce marks on their hands might fade, and if that faded...
He didn't want to think about it.
He didn't want to remember there was nothing he could do.
There were a lot of injuries that he could pull back together, with his training. He'd learned surgery, how to close bleeding wounds and open chests, how to fix ribs into place and piece together bone. He could (had) done what he could to close the Princess' throat which was one reason Ravio hadn't been able to pull himself from the corner for hours.
But he had no idea how Captain was still alive.
At least the wound had stopped bleeding.
If he looked now, he imagined that much of it had begun to pull together, but having seen him with his heart split open once was more than enough. Having seen his torn lung and shattered ribs, the edges broken off his spine...
He didn't want to look again. Link pulled his legs to his chest and closed his eyes, tears stinging at his lids as he tried not to see.
He'd trained on landslides and work injuries, on crushed limbs and blunt force trauma. He'd, for the most part, been okay with that. He breathed in and his throat caught, and he strugged not to sob as he let it out. He could do that: that much he still remembered.
How to not sob. Not let anyone know he wasn't okay.
There were two teenagers here still conscious and someone had to help them get through this.
If only there was something he could do for the one who wasn't.
(He lived to meet me in Hytopia, Link thought. He has to make it through this.)
(I just wish I knew if it was something I did.)

Muting Chains
Summary:
Prince got unlucky, got caught, and got a little more time on his hands than he bargained for. However, there's still worse things than being bored.
Rated G, mostly internal monologue about language use and home.
@thatbrokenpromise AU HW Link, deaf/selectively mute character.
Also on AO3
IIII
The worst part of being chained up, Link supposed, was the fact it meant he couldn't even talk. Even before he lost his hearing, losing his hands meant losing what little speech he had. Now, it also meant he was agonizingly alone with no information at all about what was going on outside.
Being deaf didn't usually annoy him too much. It had brought with it some kind of peace: noise had always been the first thing to become seriously upsetting. It was one reason he didn't talk: it was hard, yes, he'd never been able to make his throat do what he wanted, and had never been able to really put words into order. Sometimes (for all he'd been loathe to admit it) it had been frustratingly hard to understand other people's words.
Signing mostly worked. He understood enough; he'd gotten very very good in time at piecing together what he missed, and losing his hearing had made it so he no longer needed an excuse to ask someone to repeat themselves or rephrase. Make it simpler.
This wasn't answering the question of when he was going to be saved.
He did trust the others would try, but he had unfortunate amounts of realism about their odds. They were as far as he could tell in Four's world, dealing with his army which was in too many ways much like his own: authoritarian and contrary to most natural life.
He'd talked about that with his own Princess: about the conscription and the terms, the violence and the way the pay and care and obligations were handled. It wasn't that she disagreed; it was just that she didn't see any other way forward.
How could she, when the same system that had trapped him had trapped her in different chains all her own?
Link glared at the manacles on his wrist, the small key slot and the short length.
Next time they got back together as a group, he decided, he was asking Outset how to pick locks.
He didn't need more time with his own thoughts.

RETURN TO GAMELON
Summary:
On the way to New Hyrule, Link had run afoul of a port city named Gamelon and an Admiral who controlled it with an iron first, who had a little too much interest in a pretty young blond guy like him. Tetra had gotten him out, then, and placed Linebeck there to work his magic and make sure it never happened again. They hadn't expected to be getting a dozen of them out of there alive, though. But there was no controlling where the broken magic of the Master Sword dropped them, and it clearly had no measure of safety in mind when it did. But this kind of chaos was exactly what Linebeck was there for.
Rated M for graphic violence, implied/referenced sexual assault, and some questionable implications about the Admiral you already know if you've read the other works I write with him.
FINALLY another part to That Broken Promise AU! Mixed POV once again, but it means you get Linebeck's too!

My only other recent mermaid art: What if the "Zora costume" in Tri Force Heroes made them mermaids?
Character designs are from my @thatbrokenpromise AU, Spirit Tracks Link (Blue, called Engie or Chief), Link Between Worlds Link (Green, called Smith), and Hyrule Warriors Link (Red, called Captain or Prince).
Works great, except Green Link is a bit scared of suffocation or drowning.
Well, at some point they'll get the point across that breathing underwater works fine....

hiii i don't think i've asked this before so
stims across the gang? vocal, tactile, physical, happy, anxious, any and all? pretty please?
I don't know that I've ever really thought about this in detail! Stims in my writing tend to happen somewhat incidentally so there may be suggestive things in writing I just haven't solidified officially. A few I do know for sure I suppose...
Skyloft -- I don't think he stims much, but i might be wrong. Probably would give him humming/singing/carving.
Minish -- Stims heavily: noises and hand fidgeting most of all, they cannot stand not having something in their hands. They'll hold their own hands or pet their tail if there's not something else in reach. If they REALLY like you, they'll pet you.
Kokiri -- Does grinding your teeth count as a stim? LOL. Unsure, would probably also go with music. It's not exactly a stim, but when he's upset his hands never stray far from a weapon of one kind or another.
Outset -- Doubt he stims much, but probably would also go with music and tactile stims, and mostly when happy. He tends to go very still when he's upset, partially out of defensiveness.
Chief -- Music! He loves to listen to music, but also to repetitive sounds and he'll make them himself if he must. Less mouth-sounds, more clicking, tapping types.
Ordon -- Definitely sings to himself a lot, humming and hand fidgets, although it's probably not to stimming levels. Does sex count as as stim?
Four -- He probably does stim, but I'm not sure what. Reading, perhaps, playing with his hair. It varies between them all: Shadow would probably be hairplay, Blue & Red hand fidgets, Vio texture/colour, and Green physical movement but that's just spitballing ideas.
Prince -- Unsure, but would definitely guess he plays with his hair and his clothes constantly. Big baggy sleeves can hide a lot after all, and while he does need his hands to talk he tends towards not saying much if he can help it (Unfortunately in the gang that's not often a choice.)
Rabbit -- Unsure, probably would say he does music though if he had to pick one. May also embroider and tablet weave if he has the stuff on him for it.
Smith -- Unsure, not sure she seems the type. Would probably say she's more likely to anxious stim and that as the hand fidgeting style not noises. She's likely to just not talk when upset.
Far -- Unsure, but he likely does strive to keep busy all the time. Sewing, finger tapping, playing with his hair, cloud watching and so on.
Hateno -- Hums a lot, given that's canonical. Anxiously picks at his prosthetic when upset, although that's partially in reaction to pain/sensation issues. Probably plays with his hair.
Hopefully some of that is helpful! Amusing conclusion: the TFH group is a VERY quiet trio it seems LOL.
