Summer ignorance
The sun smiles brightly
A golden light casts downward
Why am I inside?

The Tale of the King and the Village's Disappearance
Once upon a time, in a wealthy kingdom, there ruled a fierce, powerful king. However, despite all his wealth and influence, he was incredibly ungrateful and cruel. Nothing was ever satisfactory to the man. Nothing was ever good enough.
One evening, he decided that his enormous, glittering palace was not grand enough for his tastes. He ordered his henchman to expand the palace walls. His faithful advisor informed him that the village was too close for that to happen and that the homes would be destroyed in the process. The king didn't care. He wanted a bigger palace, and that is what he would get.
Homes were destroyed, reduced to nothing but rubble. The civilians were forced to find a home elsewhere despite the remote nature of the village. The people who were evicted moved into the nearby woods. They built homes from stone and wood, and ate the vegetation and wild animals they cooked. Despite the harsh conditions and lack of resources, they were happy within each other's company.
Even though his palace was now larger, and the number of subjects had reduced, the king was still not satisfied. He wanted to expand further, regardless of the fact he lived alone and had no purpose for the space. This led to the destruction of servant quarters and even more homes.
The king's workers were also forced to leave, and soon, after so much expanding and bulldozing, there was no kingdom left. All of his servants, cooks, and cleaners were gone. All of his kingdom residents were gone. Even his loyal advisor had deserted him. He found himself completely isolated.
Since he had been served his entire life, he lacked basic essential skills. He found himself hungry because he could not cook. He found himself sneezing because he could not clean the dust. He found himself tired because he was not accustomed to serving himself.
He quickly grew agitated.
One cold night, he stood up to close his curtains, and, just into the woods, he saw a glowing flame. A fire. He could hear singing, laughing, and music, and instantly, he knew. He had found his previous followers.
The very next morning, as soon as dawn graced the skies, he rode out on his only remaining, horse, which he had neglected for this entire time. He charged into the trees, and soon, he came across a small hut fashioned out of wood and stone. He pounded upon the door, and upon answer, he said this:
"We're you once apart of my thriving kingdom?"
The man inside simply shook his head and shut the door.
Determined and fuelled by anger, the kind rode on, and eventually found the next house.
He repeated the same routine.
"We're you once apart of my kingdom?"
The woman replied by shaking her head and then snickered.
"However, I did see them the other day, out West, just past the dense trees,"
The King nodded and, blinded by his rage, found himself travelling West.
However, his horse began to cry and stumble. They had found themselves in thick, sticky mud. The king did not care, and he ordered the horse to continue. Durinh the bumpy ride, one of the king's jewels fell down, into the brown glue. He simply groaned and hopped off of his horse, his shoes sinking.
And thats when he saw it. The carcass of a deer. It had clearly also found itself caught in the mud, and been trapped until it perished.
The king's heart quickened, and he immediately wanted to retreat. He swiftly turned around to mount his horse again, only to find nothing but air. It had left him.
He tried to run, but his feet wouldn't move. The filth was up to his shins now, keeping him there like a spider's web.
Tears streamed down his face as he aimlessly cried for help, and soon enough, he became a deer.
Permanently.

The Princesses of the Day and Night
Once upon a time, far up above us all, there were once two young princesses. One ruled the night; She would dance with the stars and sing with the moon in the darkness of dusk, and she would watch the streetlights glow against the dark canvas of the streets below. The other ruled during the day; She would laugh with the children in the fields, glide along the white clouds, and bask in the morning sun. But eventually, the sisters grew tired of their lives, and the next sunrise, they began to complain.
"It's not fair." The girl of the night began. "It's not fair that you get to watch all the children play. They're all asleep when I'm around."
"Well, it's not fair that you get to see all the pretty stars at night. The sun is always shielding then from me." The lady of the day replied.
They continued for a very long time.
"It's not fair that you get to see all the animals, they hide away at night!"
"It's not fair that you get to see all the nocturnal creatures!"
"It's not fair that you get to see all the butterflies!"
"It's not fair that you get to see all the moths!"
They argued for a very, very long time. And that sunrise didn't move on without them. The people down below found the new phenomenon amazing and beautiful. Everybody loves a golden sunrise.
But soon, the people grew tired of it. They wanted their bright summer days when the sun beat down upon them. And they miss their dark nights when people were at peace in their slumber
"That all gets boring after a short while! Its not fun when you see them all the time!" The princesses eventually yelled in unison.
And with that, they realised. They began to notice that the people were unhappy, just like them. They finally realised that everybody gets bored of what they have, even if it seems special in the short term. The sisters decided that they shouldn't argue anymore because even if they could switch places, they'd get bored eventually and want to switch back.
And so they returned to their normal schedule. One would enjoy the peaceful nights, and the other the lively day.
But with one addition.
Each sunrise, the princess of the night would teach the other about constellations, owls and the moon's phases, and every sunset, the princess of the day would teach her about flowers, sports and cute critters.
And they enjoyed their time just a little bit more.
