i have two approaches to canon
So if we extrapolate from this one-off line in episode fifteen, as well as this tweet by the creator and the answers given at this comic con panel from 2014, we can infer that this character’s relationship with salad is more complex than it first appears …

Bruh, the way Iroh touches the back of Zuko's head
That sweet gesture
Heartbreaks. Every. Time

one of the best heartwarming scenes between Zuko and Iroh. The fact that Zuko is truly repentant and Iroh is unconditionally forgiving despite everything he’s endured. And of course, they can make you cry one moment and laugh in the next.

So, I recently binged watched all of Avatar the Last Airbender (for like the 100th time) and actually went ahead and watched Legend of Korra for the first time.
Ovs, ATLA holds up beautifully (goes without saying).
But, what really surprised me was Legend of Korra, because it was so much better then I was expecting.
Idk if I kept my expectations low as a defense mechanism or if I just assumed nothing would ever come close to recapturing the magic of the OG series.
Honestly, was it as good ATLA? No. (But did anyone think it would? Like really?)
But was it as good as we could probably get out of a sequel to what is arguably one of the greatest cartoons of all time? I honestly think it was.
I avoided LOK for so long. I think it was mostly out of not wanting to be disappointed because ATLA had such a huge impact on my childhood.
Cause I was 8 when the original series premiered. And it was the tv show I ever watched from beginning to end during it's original run. It was right up there with Harry Potter for things I was just completely obsessed with.
And the season 1 episode "The Storm" was the first tv episode that made me really cry. Like I had cried out of fear before, watching stuff that was not intended for my age range. But I had never cried tears of sadness because I was so invested in tv characters. It was the first tv show that made me cry because I empathized with a characters pain.
(Also i was in like 8th or 9th grade when LOK premiered. And like most people in that age range, i was just THE WORST. I was a pretentious, contrarian little shit and I still cringe thinking about it. And I was like 'Why would they try to make a sequel to avatar?!?!? They are RUINING MY CHILDHOOD' so...)
But anyway
tl;dr - watched LOK for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised as someone who grew up watching the original show. And also, WARNING FOLLOWERS:
I have A LOT of feelings about the collective Avatar universe.
So prepare to be spammed with ATLA/LOK shitposts

Jace: Why are Alec and Magnus sitting with their backs to each other?
Izzy: They had a fight.
Jace: Then why are they still holding hands?
Izzy: They get sad when they fight.
