Real talk: Olivia Wilde’s character Alex on the OC was the first depiction of bisexuality I had ever seen and I’ve always had a special place in my heart for her because of it. I’m so proud of her accomplishment as a debut director and will always be happy to see her career thrive.

Spill the tea on Ryan/Marissa + Marissa Cooper. I love you for loving them and Marissa, btw. I personally prefer SS + Summer more, but I also have a soft spot for RM/M too.
Both Marissa Cooper and the Ryan/Marissa pairing deserved better and it drove me crazy that the writers refused to acknowledge that they had control over the character and the pairing and that both were “tragic” because they wrote both to be so. The OC writers loved to go on about how Marissa was such a “tragic” character, how drama “followed her around” and how they had no choice but to kill her off, all of which is ridiculous, because everything which happened to Marissa (and, by extension, her and Ryan’s relationship) was because of choices the writers made.
Ryan and Marissa have a lot of external conflict and so often the writers separated them simply to create drama. There were many instances where their relationship could have worked and remained steady and instead unnecessary conflict was injected (such as Theresa’s pregnancy or Johnny’s death). The two were rarely given a real chance at a proper relationship and it became really tiring to watch them struggle so much due to outside forces.
Marissa Cooper also suffers from this, with the writers often surrounding her with unnecessary drama and conflict and not allowing her to grow as a character. Her death was the final insult to her character and the writers hiding behind the “she was too tragic to live” excuse was pathetic.
