This will probably seem like the saddest little wrap up, but for someone like me who used to be a voracious reader and now can barely hold on for long- this is an achievement.
Pather Panchali was beautiful. Would definitely recommend it. Of course this is a translation of the Bengali version.
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay was a good read too, but it was quite heavy. Trigger warning: SA, rape, ed, etc. If you are looking for something feel good and empowering, dont pick this up.
The Deep had a great premise. It is basically a speculative fiction that is based on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the black women who jumped off the ships and embraced death. The story takes place underwater. I think it had promise and Solomon could've developed the story better. But meh.
How I Became A Tree if you dont mind a bit of botany in your memoirs, then I would say go for it.
Everything The Light Touches was pretty good. Based on Shillong, this novel straddles the difficult questions that arise when one turns to the Northeastern states. To develop or to conserve? I especially like how the book doesnt infantilise the indigenous population into these innocent sweet little babies who always do the "right thing". It actually portrays the indigenous population with all its complexities, conflicts, intellect, flaws and virtues. Additionally, the narrative style is interesting. So Lit kids might like this.
An Atlas of Impossible Longing...I think the title is better than the story. I did enjoy the story. I wont lie. But sometimes the main charcter is the least interesting of all. Also...cheating 馃憥馃憥馃憥馃憥

This collection is so good. I seriously need to get on to reading more short story collections.
Satyajit Ray is such a good writer! It is a shame that I am a Bengali and it took me this long to get around to watching his films and reading stories written by him.

I have only a fraction of the patience I had as a teenager. Teen me would not have rested without shading the hell out of them.

This will probably ruin the look of my art blog but I think this might be helpful. Yes, yes, I know most of you are tech savvy but I had some friends who struggled with it.
So, if you happen to struggle too then maybe these might help?
1. Tired Eyes
Tumblr media
For fellow bespectacled mutuals and otherwise, if your eyes are tired from looking for typos or grammatical errors, then go ahead and make use of the Read Aloud feature. You can adjust the pace of reading. I often find myself catching all errors on the first go. Of course, you have to be patient enough for it. This is not for everybody.
2. Copying and pasting from a pdf gone wrong
Tumblr media
You probably tried that and the sentences appear like the ones in the image. Select the sentences that look like that and click Ctrl + H.
Tumblr media
A dialogue box like this appears. Insert "^p" in the Find What box. And then click on Replace All. The sentence look like a normal paragraph.
Tumblr media
When this itty bitty baby dialogue box appears. Click NO. Or it will mess up your other paragraphs, much like a toddler on the loose. :P
That's it. Bye bye!

Thinking about how during April, last year, I was anxious about my future. I almost thought 2024 would be me wasting away on my bed. Thank God that was not the case. Yes, the second half of that year had me breaking my back over all sorts of calamities, but I would rather be tired of doing something than being tired of inactivity.
Last year my screen was grey with to-do stickers from 2020. Never thought I would be the person who says this...but maybe...the grey really did reflect the blandness of my life. (Jk. I changed it to a picture of hydrangeas later. I.e the one on the left. )
This year I am finally somewhere writing a very boring study material. But hey, at least I am NOT slowly decomposing and turning into my bedsheet.

Behind the curtain of yellow and green, plastic trash peeks out. I wish people respected the campus enough to not litter.

MA ended back in June of 2022.
This year, I finally met her again. It feels like no time has passed since then. It also feels like two decades have passed. This is what adulthood is I guess.
