In the critically acclaimed children’s fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, author Rick Riordan creates a complex setting in which Greek mythology is intertwined with modern society. The main character, Perseus “Percy” Jackson, becomes a hero not by choice but by his duty to save the world which he has come to love. However, due to the nature of popular media, recently there has arisen a point of conflict as to whether or not Percy is white. In this essay, I will…

"Annabeth hates Percy" "Annabeth thinks Percy is stupid" "Annabeth doesn't like Percy"
Well back in canon, here's what Annabeth actually thinks (an exact quote from the demigod files with nothing cut out)(she's being interviewed and they ask her this).
"You've been known to call Percy 'seaweed brain' from time to time. What's his most annoying quality"
She says "Well, I don't call him that because he's so bright, do I? I mean he's not dumb. He's actually pretty intelligent, but he acts so dumb sometimes. I wonder if he does it just to annoy me. The guy has a lot going for him. He's courageous. He's got a sense of humour. he's good-looking but don't you dare tell him I said that. Where was I?
Oh yeah, so he's got a lot going for him but he's so...obtuse. that's the word. I mean he doesn't see the really obvious stuff, even when you're giving him hints and being totally blatant. What? No, I'm not talking about anyone or anything in particular! I'm just making a general statement. Why does everyone always think...agh! Forget it."
Straight from the girls mouth. He's courageous, funny, attractive, and "pretty intelligent."
That's all, have a lovely day.

Okay Ik that it's been far too long and everyone has stopped talking about it and I'm too late but... Series Gabe.
He really gets on my nerves. And not in a "He's a bad stepfather written intentionally to be awful" way, no I mean, he was changed for no good reason.
I'm not going to say they made Gabe "not abusive" because that's sort of subjective and not my point. I'm not even gonna say that they made him less abusive because my problem isn't that. It's that they changed him.
Yes a person who acts like series Gabe in real life would have bad effects on children and can be called abusive (I certainly think they are) however they will have a different affect on their children than people who act like book Gabe. Book Gabe shapes Percy as a character. The way he is abusive forms him.
Firstly, book Gabe is (canonically) financially abusive. He steals money that Percy earns and gambles it away. This means that Percy feels powerless in his own home. He has no say in what happens, no control. He also has less freedom without money. This would mean that over time, Percy may become possessive of things as a way to combat these emotions. He may also act in ways that are illogical or impulsive to gain back the freedom he grew up without.
Since series Gabe isn't financially abusive (at least to Percy we don't really know about Sally) Percy won't act in this way and it changes Percy's character.
Secondly, book Gabe is verbally abusive. He makes mean comments to Percy and berates him. He makes fun of Percy's intelligence, which would explain (along with the education systems treatment of him) why Percy feels stupid. Gabe's control over Percy is also shown in verbal abuse. He feels he can say whatever he wants without consequence. For instance, telling Percy not to cause damage to his car despite the fact Sally is driving, he's horrible for the sake of it. Again, this shapes Percy's character because he feels like he has no control. Along with that, it can explain why he is so insecure (especially on Circe's island) and downplays himself.
Series Percy is insecure because of not doing well in school and bullying, but Gabe's verbal abuse in the book shows it on a deeper level. It makes us understand why Percy holds onto these insecurities despite gaining friends and having incredible achievements. Series Percy will feel less understandable.
Finally, book Gabe is (implied to be) physically abusive. Of course, he canonically hits Sally but with lines like "If I told my mom, he'd punch my lights out," it can be inferred he hits Percy too. Although this is not canon in either book or series, it being implied in the books makes many scenes far sadder. It also explains a lot of Percy's behaviours. Violent outbursts and unregulated emotions can stem from physical abuse. Additionally, Percy enjoys being aggressive and hurting others. It isn't obvious, but he drags out his attack on Procrustes simply because he was mad at him, Annabeth evens says he should "be faster next time." Percy gets extremely aggravated by Ares and keeps wanting to attack him. It's said that this is the effect Ares has on people, but (as far as I can remember) we only ever see it on Percy, whereas Annabeth and Grover are scared. Percy says that when he looks at Ares, he sees Gabe (and some other people), which can explain this behaviour.
Book Percy, being aggressive because of physical abuse, explains his actions, which makes him more sympathetic. Series Percy seems unreasonable and as Percy's actions continue this will be more apparent.
And with all these changes for the worse, I can't help but be annoyed because they didn't even change Gabe because they thought this douche persona would be more fitting. It was simply to make the series more palatable and pg. It is so infuriating.
Percy has such a strong moral compass because of how he was raised and wanting to be nothing like Gabe. Percy feels powerless. He's impulsive, aggressive, and emotional. He has a problem with authority, doesn't listen to others, and stands up for himself but, more importantly, others. Gabe, affecting his character, adds layers, makes his motives clear, and makes Percy overall more interesting. As soon as he opens that mailbox, I do not care about series Gabe. I can't imagine him coming up in any later seasons.
All in all it's a major downgrade for a stupid reason, and I can't imagine series Percy going into Tartarus, smelling his worst fear and it being Gabe. I just can't.

Here are some of my guesses for the second season of PJO
1. I think Grover and Polythemus are gonna have a completely changed storyline. They might not even do the wedding dress
2. Something changed about Tyson being homeless. Maybe he'll live with Percy and Sally, ig I can't imagine them showing him being homeless
3. Matt sloan and his friends are gonna be changed and only have like 2 minutes of screen time
4. Instead of having Annabeth's picture being printed out and in his book, I think Percy will have drawn her in his notebook. This one sounds weird, but it's mainly because they showed him drawing in season 1, and it might make more sense/feel less creepy than him printing out the picture
5. Annabeths hatred of clyclopses is gonna be watered down
6. I don't think Percy is gonna resent Tyson or be embarrassed of him, Idk if they show runners have the guts to show that
7. Connor/Travis and Katie are gonna be cut. They won't cut Beckendorf or Silena because they're important to the plot, but there's been no mention of the twins or Katie
8. Percy will recognise Tantalus like in the books, but Tantalus will give his speech about his children at the pavilion, not the campfire
9. Clarrise won't have "you moo girl" on her back (small change, but it feels obvious)
10. Chariot race will be very quick, + they might use a cd player or a phone instead of a boombox
11. Hermes and Percy's conversation will be entirely different from the book. I don't even think he'll give the same items or that George and Martha will show
12. Luke will be more sympathetic, not as angry or bitter when talking to the trio, he might even try to recruit them again
13. Clarrise and Ares will have a different conversation as well (I think they will make Ares not sexist but also more of a douche kinda like Gabe)
14. They're gonna go to Circe's island and be like, "You're Circe, the witch," and she'll go on a rant about the gods and Odysseus, and whtv 😑
15. Percy will take the potion but only to trick Circe because he and Annabeth already had a plan
16. The "nobody attacks my friends" joke will be out loud instead of Percy's monolouge
17. Someone other than Percy will decide to give Clarrise the fleece
18. I feel like they'll change the scene were Percy tricks Luke into confessing
19. Luke is not gonna threaten to feed Annabeth and Grover to the Oreius (this I'm 100% sure of)
20. Chiron will decide to start training Percy directly (which will then change when Thalia is resurrected)
21. Poseidon will say something different in his letter
22. It'll be Annabeth that helps Thalia when she comes back. She won't be too stunned to do anything
#I'm pretty confident with these#Not a fan of most of them#I also think Grover will get like no screen time#that feels obvious#Also they'll change how Tyson speaks#percy jackson#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo#percy jackson disney+#season two percy jackson#percy jackson season 2#walker scobell#rick riordan#disney+#I do now think they'll do the wedding dress thing#Cant wait to see Clarisse in her wedding dress#people always forget that part

guys would percy like disney hercules. because I feel like for me, annabeth would hate it for being crude and inaccurate, but grover would kinda dig it because Phil is a bro's bro and he asserts his stayr boundaries and grover appreciates fun media.
but would percy like it or NOT. I'm undecided. would he like snuggle up and watch it w grover and popcorn or would it annoy him too much. IDK
