That wasn't a demand, so for a moment, Yin's original program was confused. It was a question and she could answer it either with a yes or no. She didn't get the opportunity to do so very often. The last time she could remember when she was put under the spot light for a choice was when Hei told her she could stay with him only if she wanted to.
Yin's eyes stared down, unfocused and calm, until finally she nodded her head. It could be interesting to go with her. She seemed trustworthy enough too. "Sure." She knew Hei would probably be upset with her disappearing but as long as she let him know it would be okay, right? Raising her hand to her ear to contact him, she paused when she remembered that they weren't connected during down time. Yin then looked back up in Moe's direction for a request. "Can you write a note for me?" She immediately asked. "I need to leave one in my shop."
Moe let out a soft sigh, giving her new friend a soft squeeze before slowly letting go. This doll was something special. She was truly different. The girl chuckled as she tucked an unruly strand of hair behind her new friend’s pale ear. “Since we’re friends, do you want to come stay with me for the night? We wouldn’t want you staying out here all alone. Plus," she took one of her hands again, and gently rubbed the back of it with her thumb.
"You could do your observing from there without having people suspect anything. You’d be safe there, I promise," she said softly. She gave her friend’s hand a slight squeeze, a happy smile on her face. Though her friend may never be able see her smile, she kept on smiling anyway. Yin made her happy.

Yin normally had her hands resting at her sides, but at the time she had them both held in front of her. Somewhere inside she regret having ever gone on a walk, but her doll like nature told her to ignore it. She was like that a lot more often than she used to be; at war with her own mind.
Tumblr media
The doll moved closer to him and then turned around so she could sit down too. She sat next to him and looked at her hands in her lap. "I'm sorry." It slipped out before she could even think about it. What on Earth had come over her these days anyway?

She normally would have but today it slipped her mind.
Tumblr media
Yin nodded her head at his words. "Okay." She would be sure to stay close from now on. If she left, she would say something.

Yin didn't show surprise when something unexpected happened, but there was no way she could have known anything like this would have happened in the first place. Deep inside herself she felt her heart move and her blind eyes nearly widened. This was a hug...an embrace she wasn't used to but still familiar with because of Hei and the rare times he would do it to her.
And just like how she would react to him, the doll raised her arms and put them around the girl to return it. She never was able to understand what the gesture meant but now that she was growing more used to it and learning a little more about the emotions people felt, she understood it was a sign of comfort and Moe was reaching out for it.
She nodded her head, unsure on how to respond to someone saying thank you. Instead she reassured the girl a little more with what had crossed her mind at the time.
"We are friends now."
You have me…
Moe felt a tear slide down her face as she turned to look at Yin. She stared into the other’s pale eyes. Never in her fourteen years had she ever met a person capable of being so kind. Not to mention a doll. Something in her moved as she felt delicate fingers touch her face.
"Y- Yin.." Moe could feel herself overcoming with emotions; emotions she didn’t want seen. She didn’t want to be seen crying but something about the way Yin spoke to her…
Moe pulled Yin into a gentle hug, her eyes closed. “Thank you, Yin. it means a lot."

"I will need money." Yin spoke as soon as she got the chance, just in between his words. Having left all of her money and belongings in her shop back in town, the doll was broke. If she were to go buy herself some water, she would need to borrow cash from the Contractor.
On the subject of food to survive, it wouldn't be as difficult one would think. Yin didn't eat much so she wasn't hard to feed. If they got a meal together, she would most likely only eat a small plate full of food. "...decide?" It was a question she asked only to confirm to herself what he said. She never really thought about a food she liked most than others. She normally ate candy when he brought it to her or vegetables when they ate together. Cucumbers were good. She liked their taste.
"Salad." She placed her hand on the window again and ran her fingers across the glossy surface. She then thought about other things she may have eaten in the past. "Fish too. I've had salmon before. I liked it."
"Water? Good for you, you managed to say something you want. Get it yourself the next time we stop," He didn’t know when they would next stop. It could be in a few minutes, it could be when they reached their destination. Either way he wasn’t about to get the water for her, if it was something she wanted she would have to get it herself.
"You’re going to need food to survive as well, maybe if you don’t make me decide what to get for you I might give you an extra day," Surely there was some food she liked, if not something she liked now then something she had liked wen she was still human. There had been occasions where they had gotten food together before, and in the end it had always been up to him to decide what she would be eating.
He was getting hungry himself, and that meant they would be stopping relatively soon. If she could make her own decisions that soon she might not need an extra day.

Yin couldn't express herself very well, let alone at all. It was also quite difficult for her to tell what people were thinking or feeling when they tried to hide their emotion. She never quite understood why anyone would ever hide their feelings in the first place. If she could express herself like the humans could, Yin would never hide it. She would show everything off for everyone to see.
Look, I'm not emotionless. I can cry too. I can smile and laugh too.
But, It was only a distant dream.  Weren't contractors supposed to be unable to dream?
Yin held her hand out and touched her delicate fingers to Moe's cheek. She could see that she was hiding behind the scarf only to keep her emotion hidden. She knew that reaction only meant she was lonely. She knew before she even told her.
"You have me..." Yin said to the girl. She didn't want her to feel lonely almost as much as she didn't want Hei to be sad. "You aren't alone anymore." And neither was the doll.
Moe gently squeezed Yin’s hand after hearing her question. She let her head hang, her eyes casting a pitifully sad gaze into her lap. Her smile faded into a small one, taking refuge behind her scarf. Her shoulders slumped, and she suddenly remembered just how lonely she really was. Moe never home and stood there for long. After her little sister passed, away, Moe had changed drastically. Nothing was the same. Home became a living hell that she refused to stay in alone.
The youth bit her lip, trying to calm her tense nerves. There was no need to be upset. She was with Yin now, so why be upset? She just couldn’t help it. She just couldn’t. Moe took a deep breath, and let her eyes went to her hands that were playing with her dress. “I am very lonely. I have no one," she said simply.
There was no need to say more. Was there? Yin surely didn’t need to hear all of this. It made her sad, but she decided to swallow it, and simply forget  about all of the sad in her heart. All of the pain, and loneliness, and darkness. All of it.

When he mentioned the mountains, she moved her gaze towards the window where her hand once was. She couldn't see what was beyond it, but she assumed they were out there somewhere. With his answer, the Doll managed to relax her grip on her hands and let them sit in her lap again. But by then Hei had already noticed she was angry and shook her head gently.
"I'm not."
She wasn't angry anymore at least. He'd answered her and that was all she wanted. Although there was a chance he could get her angry as time went on. She could probably avoid that, however, if she managed to satisfy his wish.
Blind eyes narrowing just slightly, Yin thought to herself how difficult things would be from there on out. Hei knew it wouldn't be easy for her, so it was possible that reason was why he was pushing her so much. If she managed to actually go against her programming then maybe he would be happy.
Would she be happy?  Or would this have terrible effects on her body? What would this do to her?
Already forgetting about those thoughts, Yin turned her attention back to him. "I want water."
"The mountains for the time being," In the long run he didn’t really know. His only objective to was drop off the map and start fighting against the Syndicate from uncharted territories. If that meant crossing borders every three weeks then so be it.
From the corner of his eye he saw her clench her hands into fists, it was a surprising show of anger from her. “Something’s made you furious," He didn’t expect her to respond, but if she was really trying to change then she might. It was natural for people with a full range of emotional expression to respond to things like that after all.
He had doubts about her ability to change soon enough for him to let her stay, but at the same time he knew she would do anything to meet his expectations. It was almost a battle inside his own mind on whether to bet on her succeeding or not. On the one hand was her programming, something that was near impossible to deny. On the other hand was her incredibly strong wish to never be separated from him. The strength of that wish had let her transcend her programming before, but never yet to the extent she would have to now.

Had Hei avoided her question? Yin felt her hands ball into fists in her lap. Did he do it on purpose or was his mind too set on getting out of Tokyo? There were some things that made her angry deep down, and Hei normally wasn't one of them. There were times, however, when she wanted to speak up against him. Hei's choices were always right and she knew that, but sometimes, the things he said made her feel that pang in her heart and that sort of confusing feeling within herself that made her want to hit him.
In the end, all Yin ever managed to do to him was reach other and grab onto the fabric of whatever he was wearing. If she was angry enough, sometimes she would tug on it with a good grip.
Soon, she did manage to reach out to him and then turned her gaze away from the road in front of them. "I asked you a question." She then said, her voice surprisingly demanding. "Where were you planning on going?"
He missed her first question, glancing to the side at the mention of his name, “Can I help you?" He didn’t usually talk while driving, preferring to keep his attention on the road, but they were already nearing the edge of the city and once they were out traffic thinned considerably.
He sat still as the buildings began to give way to empty fields, the small houses beginning to grow larger as the property size increased. He had always preferred the country-side to cities, it was quieter, and there was room to walk unrestricted. He wondered if maybe he would stop out in the country for  while.
He really had no final destination so he might eventually, but for the time being he was planning on staying in a small house up in the mountains. In the best of all possible worlds he wanted to leave the country, to attempt to throw off the Syndicate and start anew. Of course if he was going to do that Yin would either have to master the expression of emotion, or be left behind. There was no way to detect a Contractor like himself, but dolls were a different matter.

"Fourteen." Yin repeated the age so that she would remember it easier. She had a habit of forgetting things sometimes, even things she herself would say. She'd done it a few times according to Hei.
Yin pulled at the fabrics of her dress, normally having this sort of habit when she needed a feeling of security. It wasn't as if she felt uneasy around the person beside her, however, but even she herself wasn't quite sure what she was really doing. Maybe it was one of those nervous habits humans would obtain throughout their lives. Was she really that similar to them these days?
She let the girl poke at her cheek and pinch it. She didn't mind, nor would she speak up. Even though these days she'd been quite out of place, she would keep still around a stranger.
No she wasn't quite a stranger now was she? She knew her name and her age and they were being friendly with each other. That meant she was her friend, right? Did Moe have other friends? Yin brought her head up again. "Are you lonely Moe?" She decided to ask her in return. "You seemed lost when you came to me."
Moe looked back over at Yin, the corner of her lips curling into a bright smile. Seeing the other make such a gesture made her happy, but sad too. It was sad that Yin couldn’t feel the way she did. Just thinking about it made her want to rip someone of her feelings out and implant them in the other. She wanted to see Yin come to life. She didn’t want her to be an empty shell. This was the thing about the very idea of dolls that Moe hated with a burning passion. No emotions meant that they were easier to manipulate. But that wasn’t fare. They were living creatures too, and they deserved to be happy just like anyone else.
The girl’s fragile hand gave Yin’s another reassuring squeeze. Moe’s other hand reached around Yin’s shoulder, and gently pinched the smooth skin on the other side of her pale face. Something about this doll seemed so oddly off. It excited her quite a bit, to be honest.
As the other spoke again, Moe let her smile fade into nothing more but a tiny curving of the lips. Again, it pained her to think of how the other must feel, so empty with holes everywhere. It wasn’t fair.
"That’s alright. Age doesn’t really matter to me either. But I’m fourteen, in case you wanted to know." Moe let her free hand go back to subtly playing with Yin’s grey locks.

She never felt competently comfortable in a car. There was no water for her to touch so she could observe the world around them. It was probably a good idea to get her a bowl of water to hold in her lap or else she would be uncomfortable for a majority of their trip. She would not complain, however, even if she wanted to, but next time they stopped she would be sure to ask him to fetch her some water.
Yin held her hand up and touched it to the glass on the window beside her. It was a silent goodbye to the Tokyo she'd been in for the past couple years working along side Hei and the others. She would only  miss her shop and Mao. Otherwise, Hei was the only person she wanted to be with at the moment.
"Where were you planning on going?" She finally asked him once her silent goodbye was given. She placed her hand back in her lap and soon faced her gaze forward. "...Hei?"
Knowing that she wouldn’t fall behind he picked up his pace. It took maybe twenty minutes to get to the rental building, and perhaps forty more before they were sitting inside a car.
The vehicle was fairly nice, it had enough room in the back for essentially anything they would need on the journey, and there was enough extra space to sleep inside. He looked at Yin out of the corner of his eye, “Say goodbye to Tokyo, you might not ever see it again after we leave,"
He pulled out into the road and began driving North. He didn’t know where he was going, but he needed to leave the city behind, and at the moment the northern edge was closest.
