#Repost @b_barnali with @repostapp ・・・ Here's a peek into the "thinnai" or an inner courtyard in an 18th Century Chettinad Mansion. There are at least three such thinnais in an authetic mansion. A visitor would witness architectural poetry in symmetry here. Silent tales of a bygone era are told in little details. Adorned with Burma Teak pillars on both sides, the courtyard lets the sun glow in full glory. The floor is layered with hand crafted earthy Athangudi tiles which get better with time as generations of Chettiars walk on them barefoot. Pity, no one lives in these stunning houses any more but if you listen carefully, you'll hear generations from the bygone era whisper stories in your ears.
