Batman V. Superman Review

Just got out of the theater from seeing Batman V. Superman, so now I’m going to attempt a spoiler free review. First off we will start with The Pro's: Affleck was an awesome Batman and I enjoyed his portrayal quite a bit, in my opinion he felt the most like Batman of any of the Batmen we have seen so far in the live action arena. So once again strictly in my opinion he did a great job and you Affleck nay-sayers can put your worries to rest. Henry Cavill continued a good portrayal of Superman and again it’s my opinion for I know a few people didn't like him in "Man of Steel" but I did. Gal Gadot was a very good as Wonder Woman but they made her a bit more than what Wonder Woman is in the comic world. This comment is in no way chauvinistic, its just in the comics she was more of a simpler, stuck in the outside world ways type woman but in this movie you would never guess she was a Amazon from the sheltered world of Femiscura, she seems more like a Meta-human that was born in this world and gained her powers but overall I did enjoy her performance. I feel like they may have taken this route to avoid the chauvinistic comments and make her a strong female by today's standards, although I feel she always had that image without the unneeded updating the movie did to her. I enjoyed this portrayal of Alfred by Jeremy Irons his and Sean Pertwee from Gotham are my favorite versions of Alfred so far, I’ve always been a big fan of the ex-military / bodyguard / butler Alfred rather than the simple helpful butler Alfred. The small scenes containing Cyborg and Aquaman where awesome although short and I’m excited to see where they take those characters. Middle of the Road: The storyline was good although very long and contained some unneeded parts, I think they did an alright job but there could have been a much better cut of the movie. Lex Luthor was quite possibly the character I had the most resistance towards prior to the movie but he sort of grew on me throughout the film and by the end I found his performance pretty good overall, so we don’t need to send a lynch mob after Jesse Eisenberg. Even though he was in the much disliked and bashed "Superman Returns" I still think Kevin Spacey was the best Lex Luthor in the films so far but again as stated many times, this is my opinion. The mini clip of The Flash was underwhelming and I’m still on the Fence to how well Ezra Miller will do portraying the movie version of The Flash, that and he looked more like Cisco Ramone (Vibe) instead of Barry Allen. This is still one of my big gripes with DC, I feel their decision to keep the TV-verse and the Movie-verses separate is a mistake. The TV actors seem to be dead on in most cases and redoing them with different actors just doesn’t seem like a wise choice to me. The Bad or Negative Zone, if you will: Going back around to a previous point the movie was too long and needs a better cut, granted they introduced a lot of characters their scenes where minor and short, 2.5 hours is a long movie as reflected by the man loudly snoring behind me in the theater. I could have easily picked about 30-40 mins of the movie that could have been cut and not effected its final product much beyond making it more engaging. Doomsday was in my opinion crappy, he had the Doomsday look and all but changing his origin the way they did made me lose interest in him and it seems like he went down fairly easy compared to his comic version, which was much more climactic with Superman and Doomsday beating each other to death. So they could have weeded some of the unneeded fluff from the movie and did this sequence in a better way. The weird dream sequences in th Nov looks great but seemed to have no tie to the actual plot of the movie. Lastly the ending of the movie was good and reminiscent of the end of the doomsday storyline but they did it in a different way that I feel did nothing for the story and should have stuck to the comic ending. In closing I’d say overall I would call it alright it had a bunch of good, bad and in between and I feel a better layout could have been done with the movie but all in all it was a decent amalgam of “The Dark Night Returns” and “Superman Doomsday” storylines. I’d recommend seeing it in theaters because the action looks good on the big screen. In closing I give it 3.75 out of 5 Bearded Geeks I had to struggle with that rating I didn’t feel it was good enough for 4 but its not so bad that it needed 3 or 3.5, so take it as you will and let us know your opinion or review below.

Deadpool Movie Review

So my fellow Bearded Geek Sumo took me to see Deadpool last night and it was amazing. As I said before I feel like Ryan Reynolds was born to play that character, he just nails every aspect of the Deadpool persona. So here ill give a spoiler free review of it, so feel free to read and share without worrying about someone getting their panties in a bunch over spoilers and what not because I wont give away any at this time beyond what was already shown in the trailers.
The movie definatly earned its R rating and I dont feel it could have been done as well with anything lower, Deadpool is out and out a R-rated character if not more. That being said if you have any young ones that are chomping at the bit to see this movie because Deadpool is very popular right now, I would hold off. I can be somewhat relaxed in my own parenting but my kids won't be seeing this until they are atleast old enough to drive. Its very gratuitous and over the top just as the character should be depicted but not good for kids.
I dont think I could choose anything or anyone that I disliked in the movie. The script, casting and acting where all perfect to Deadpool. They tied a lil of the co-owned Fox Marvel franchises by adding a lil X-Men with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, not exactly top tier X-Men but they fit in the story well and I felt they where portrayed well. Plus we get a few hilarious Wolverine references and callbacks mixed in with all the other hilarity and insanity of the movie.
Out and out I would say its pretty much the movie any Deadpool fan would want and any comic book fan would enjoy. If you know nothing of Deadpool or anything of the Marvel universe but like comedy, action or a mixture of the two, you should enjoy this movie.
I give this movie 5/5 Bearded Geeks and cant wait to see it again, so check it out.
