After feeling much despair this Monday, experiencing the salt marsh, seeing 3 monarch butterflies, and witnessing a rainbow, were signs of hope that made me marvel in the unexplained beauty. God, are you trying to reassure me?

This podcast episode was a reminder that we work better when we know our colleagues as human beings. I was also reminded that food gatherings like the ice cream social were meant to build community or social gatherings, rather than a take and go type of deal, which was what I experienced at the DOE given the time crunch and observed behavior from peers…lesson for the road! Gatherings can be moments for connections when they are built that way!
Other takeaways:
- Allies are needed because we cannot do it alone
- I can only control what I can control - so, what can I do differently?

“As I took to the skies, I was reminded of all the moments when I felt like a mere shadow in the world of privilege. But as I sipped on Dom Pérignon through a golden straw, I realized that perhaps this small act of rebellion was my way of reclaiming my humanity. A declaration that I would no longer be invisible, no longer accommodate myself o the expectations of a world that tries to confine me.” - Eddie Ndopu, Sipping Dom Pérignon Through a Straw

“But I’m beginning to realize that I am more expansive than any space or institution. With all that space and possibility, this journal sometimes feels hollow and empty. When I embarked on this journey, I thought I needed Oxford to feel validated and whole. What I needed then and what I need now, what I will always need, is the grace and power of my imagination.” - Eddie Ndopu, Sipping Dom Pérignon Through A Straw

This summer has been a reminder that we need to live in community and ask for help. The latest reminder today was the conversation between Anna Sale and Ezra Klein.
