AMEN because like...the comments made about past princess movies were stupid, i totally agree. but instead of taking a moment to draw a pattern, they instantly took rachel zegler as a scapegoat as if emma watson and lily james didn't say the same things about their princesses. as if naomi scott, lily james, and halle bailey weren't involved in that oscar presentation where they insinuated that animated movies were only for children and annoying to watch
and the way gal gadot was agreeing with rachel zegler in these interviews but no one ever brought up how gal gadot was being disrespectful to snow white was wild
What a funny joke, we were all pretending that Snow White's failure was finally the box office records follwing in the trend of hating on shitty live actions but actually once again it was entirely due to..... you guessed it ......racism. It was racism, people getting upset that Disney cast a brown woman to be snow white and that Rachel Ziegler didn't just keep her mouth shut like a good little girl (she just repeated Disney's marketing talk for these disney princess movies like they always say their versions of the princesses are more "empowering" literally look at Speechless from Aladdin.) Really had us in the first half tho
but then lilo and stitich came out and made 800 mil and HTTYD will probably do the same.

buford makes a film where he's wearing like fifteen of the suits at once and he keeps peeling them off because he's wearing a mask. hiding the sensitive buford deep down inside. and it's also the suits of the different people in his life because they're all a part of him. they all influenced his behavior, his growth in some way
the top suit is a buford suit. maybe the top three or so layers are a buford suit, a reassurance of his own identity. but eventually, we reach a ferb suit. ferb was the first one to ever successfully humble buford. then, a phineas suit. because his constant kindness and optimism gave buford hope. gave buford a family. not only that, but phineas and ferb inspired buford that he could follow his dreams. perhaps candace and isabella are thrown in there for showing buford determination, perhaps even linda is there because buford learned her pie recipe and he still keeps it in his heart. further and further, we uncover each different suit. all the people who had influenced buford into becoming the buford we know.
and that's when we reach buford's bullying victims. buford's regrets. because they're a part of him, too. we see every nerd and exactly the type of guilt that buford had kept around because he hurt them. because this was so early on in buford's story that he hadn't had all those people yet. maybe we see a few repeats of the first few people. maybe we see baljeet. these suits are much more deformed and less detailed because they were his first suits, before he really learned how to make them. the cruddy prototypes.
a quiet moment of silence, of thought, of reminiscing. and that's when buford finally pulls off the last suit, and we see a little tiny child buford. because we've gone through his life story backwards. we see that the hand that has been unzipping the suits is adult buford, changed for good and so wise in a way that the child cannot comprehend, and they simply hug.
People are like "why Buford has skin suits of everyone" why is he so weird" are we forgetting he becomes a film student in the future? Maybe he needs characters for his film projects or something
#buford seems like he would like trippy visuals and metaphors#maybe he'd make a whalemingo film#pnf spoilers#phineas and ferb#buford van stomm

can we talk about how jinu is a literal villain? (affectionately)
(oh yeah spoilers for kpop demon hunters below)
i mean obviously that is the part he plays in the movie. he is a villain. but they never shy away fron telling you how much he sucks. this guy sucks ass! the impact of his soul stealing is never downplayed, he quite literally sold his soul for selfish gain, he abandoned his family. this man had an incredibly negative impact on the world for the entire movie
but he's still allowed to be loved. if jinu wasn't so awful, he wouldn't be a believable villain. jinu has a selfish, yet very reasonable motive throughout the film. and not just that, but if he wasn't awful, it would lessen the impact of rumi finding the good in him. she extended empathy to this terrible guy because she knew he was hurting, and he connected with her in response.
the one good thing he ever does (other than be hot and make good music) is save rumi. he gives his heart and soul to rumi. not anyone else. He doesn't call off the concert or try to stop the boys himself, he doesn't care about the rest of the world. He's not quite there yet. but he does care about rumi, because rumi was the only one to show him compassion. (minus the fans, but that's a different sort of love)
and i feel like a lot of movies would tone him down to make him more sympathetic. like maybe he was planning on going back to his family when he was rich. or maybe he was doing it all for rumi. or it was a noble act to further the progression of his demon community. but k-pop demon hunters doesn't do that. this man's actions are completely inexcusable. but he could change if he wanted to. if he got love and compassion and a healthier way out, he could be good. the things he did would still be there, but he would be good now and for the rest of his life.
k-pop demon hunters doesn't hold back on telling you that jinu sucks. he's downright awful, and it's not for a misunderstanding rivalry. he has done and continues to do awful things, but that's what makes his romance and connection to rumi so special. rumi found the good in this despicable demon being, and it's so much more powerful because it's so hard to do
good for her, good for him, may he rest in peace

she's not a great character but this made me realize the potential for angel if she just existed as stitch's cousin. if her thing with stitch was platonic, she would have a lot more freedom to exist outside of femme fatale, because she is, conceptually, stitch's girlfriend. if she's taken out of 'stitch's girlfriend' and allowed to be 'stitch's pink cousin' then that gives her a lot more freedom to be an actual character
i would be rlly vibing with platonic angel and stitch actually. especially if aliens have no concept of gender and angel just presents that way because she likes it, so she and stitch just hang out and paint each others' claws or something. (which i would also find really fun because some girls do dress really pink and girly. not just because it's the default, but because they like it that way. i agree that the very design of angel is actually just not great conceptually, but if you make it an active character choice, then that's better writing-wise than "she's a girl, she's pink")
and then you see her a lot more active in the series because she's still close with stitch. i will say, i don't remember Snafu all that well, but i do remember that angel had that one scene in her original episode with stitch where stitch licked his nose and got embarrassed, and then angel did the same thing. and i think that's a great branching off point because she can be super weird. she's really close in proximity to stitch, so if we just gave her the opportunity to be really weird, she has a lot more freedom. she is a jumba cousin. and if we really want her to be a girl stitch in design, she's gotta be a girl stitch in ability. let her roll around on the ground and chug coffee.
if she really is just girl stitch, let her match stitch's energy! he dresses up as elvis? cool, get her a similar weird human interest. get her into freddie mercury or something and let them perform together. he likes building cities just to tear them down? she's got an idea for making a tiny statue of liberty that they can use for swordfighting! stitch likes playing ukelele? okay! angel can sing. they can write songs together about really specific earth experiences that everyone else takes for granted. like the little glowing guy on the crosswalk sign. what's his story? or maybe they can write about their shared experiences as jumba cousins, because music can reach the hearts of so many. they can speak to their community of cousins, share their story out to the world, and maybe they'd even find a few humans that relate.
just imagine a universe in which angel was more of a miss piggy type and she was just flamboyantly pink and still quirky instead of just "stitch's girlfriend" and she showed up every few episodes and she was just like stitch's bestie bc you, as a boy, can still just be besties with a really girly girl.
you really can't ignore that she's marketed as stitch's girlfriend but i really like the potential for them as a platonic duo. i know her design is not great conceptually but i really like the idea of angel as a friend to stitch
Amidst all the live action Lilo and Stitch hate going around(I hate it too I'm just sick of it at this point, not much left to say on it) it reminded me of another aspect of the franchise I can't stand
I utterly hate Angel
She appears in one episode of the series and 10 seconds of "Leroy and Stitch" and she's absolutely taken over the franchise
Why? Because she's the cute PINK marketable plushie to go with Stitch's cute BLUE marketable plushie. Boy and girl one. Perfect for merchandise
Said merchandise usually straight up cuts Lilo out and is just branded as "Stitch"
Angel brings absolutely zero value to the franchise. She's a nothing character, who suffers from the unfortinate trend of "it is absolutely imperative that the audience knows this one is a girl"

This would be enough for me to hate her, but on top of it all. She's not marketed as a sister/cousin to Stitch, she's marketed as his girlfriend.
They're cousins.
Every single experiment was created by Jumba, and is referred to as a cousin. Only she, selectively, isn't. But just because they don't bring attention to it doesn't make it any less true.
Disney is actively and proudly marketing incest with characters who are meant to be what, 7ish years old at most? Stitch being the same age as Lilo mentally. Which, if Angel is the same, and the way she's drawn, acted and presented as a "femme fatal" of sorts. Is extremely disturbing and disgusting
The franchise that's all about Ohana, no one getting left behind, said "yeah ditch Lilo, forget your sister, we have a cute pink girl alien for you to hang out with, now pose for a photo we can slap on t shirts, backpacks, notebooks, pencils, stickers-"
That episode was always off-putting to me as a kid, and I was glad it was one episode I could ignore. Now it's a pink fucking mold that's spread to the whole franchise

my conspiracy theory is that wreck-it ralph takes place in the same universe as toy story. obviously you wouldn't be able to tell because you don't see outside the digital world which is amazing because it means i can't be proven wrong (jokes)
but by toy story logic, toys come to life when kids start to play with them. forky is a toy, and he's literally trash from the garbage can. what do kids play with? arcade games. therefore, wreck-it ralph. the characters even deal with the same sort of identity crises!
which sort of makes sense for ralph breaks the internet, too. the internet is sort of like a massive toy, and kids play online games constantly. slaughter race seems to be a play on fortnite, but it probably wouldn't be wrong to assume that more violent games than slaughter race have also come to life. or maybe it's just based on being played with in general, not just by a kid.
perhaps playtime also applies to the adults of the universe, and that's why every other website is alive, too. does the universe consider scrolling on social media at work as 'play'? does the universe consider looking through ebay to find an absurdly perfect match to something for the thrill of the chase as 'play'? the implications once you get to ralph breaks the internet are very interesting
just realized after typing this whole thing out that the villain of toy story five is gonna be an ipad so that actually supports my cause

"but its badly written" i do not care. i think anything can be badly written if you've already decided you don't like it and refuse to invest yourself emotionally into the characters
i can tell you right now that 'frozen' makes a lot of decisions i really don't like but it goes along with the themes of 'frozen' so i can respect them because they're consistent. if i started calling 'frozen' badly written, tho, everyone would be on my ass about it and rightfully so because it's not badly written. i just didn't like it. the choices are clever and intentional, as is with every story.
'helluva boss' is about love and relationships. what it's like when two worlds combine, broken people that come together to heal. all the crazy things that love can be, all it can evolve into. all these characters are impacted by their own life experiences, and it has shaped who they are as people. but by showing vulnerability and honesty, they grow closer with their loved ones.
'hazbin hotel' is about hope. it's about having hope in a difficult time or place. how so many people will try to shut down your dreams by being awful, but it's important never to give up. by believing in yourself, others will start to believe in you. it's also about forgiveness. some people hurt others, whether by accident or on purpose. one can offer them a hand, an opportunity to be better, but they can only be redeemed if they believe they can be.
both shows are about being sensitive and emotional in a harsh world. some people, like charlie or stolas, will show their emotions openly and be mocked for it. some people, like blitzo or verosika, will shut down and move away from it, using snark as a shield.
both shows are about togetherness. it's about family, whether it's the family you're born with or the family you build. and how, as people, we can come together and show love for our fellow people.
both shows are about proving yourself, even as the underdog. through resilience and hard work, one will persevere.
but one would have no idea of this if they just write it off as cringe swearing demon sexy show
One of the reasons why the flaws in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel don't really bother me is because, to put it simply; you could show me the most amazing, most humanly possible perfect, flawless show imaginable, but if I don't feel emotionally connected to the characters, I literally will not care.
I'm not here for how "technically good" a show is (though, I definitely still think these shows are overall good, just imperfect, and haters can cry about it). I'm here to lose myself in getting emotionally invested, something I literally have no control over when it does or doesn't happen, and at the end of the day that's what these shows give me.
As long as I don't run into any hardcore dealbreakers along the way, that's more than enough for me.

i forgot how much of oz the great and powerful was the wicked witches touching glinda's face and calling her pretty
so happy pride month to whatever those three have going on. its amazing that both evanora and theodora had more believable chemistry with glinda than with the actual wizard but i can't imagine it's difficult to have more chemistry with a woman than with james franco

general rule for documentaries is that if you're making a take on one specific group or set of beliefs, it's probably a good idea to ask people from that group. it's a good way to tell things from their perspective and thought process, even if u can tell that they're biased in some way. not saying that that should be your only source of information, but it's good to have instead of speaking for them
source: i just saw a white guy talk about how lotso is so popular in china because he's a "government sanctioned winnie the pooh" and a bunch of chinese ppl corrected him in the comments and it feels like that entire conversation could've been avoided if he had just asked them why they liked lotso huggin bear

tell me why i saw a bunch of twst fans on tiktok flipping out over hazbin/twst crossover fanart and they were all "my goat twst!!" "twst is so pure no!!!" "the hazbin fandom is so bad and icky!!" and like... when asked to elaborate it was just bc they didn't like the writing of the show
folks...people can make fanart of two medias crossing over with one show you don't like without everyone getting all gatekeepy. tiktok fandom needs to learn how to scroll omfg

"its not my cup of tea" SCROLL THEN?? lmao? the rest of the comments were equally flipping out like "not my sweet, pure twisted wonderland!!"
and this isnt to shit on twst. i love twst but its far from too pure for crossovers

if gravity falls was made like five years earlier, we would've gotten an obligatory Disney Channel wizard of oz episode with mabel as glinda and the wizard as stan and dipper as dorothy with waddles as toto
Crazy how every modern Wizard of Oz interpretation ends up making the Wizard a horrible person. From a fascistic despot, to a selfish power-seeker, or worst of all; James Franco.
Yeah sure, in the original novels he was a charlatan con artist (and yeah, that’s pretty easy to make into a villain), but at heart he was a silly little goof who still cared about the citizens of Oz and wanted them to be happy (even if tricking them was the easiest way from him to do that). His most evil action in the whole series (giving Ozma to Mombi) was soft-retconned/ignored, and later books have him return to Oz as a badass studying under Glinda and willing to die to protect Dorothy.
So really, The Wizard in an “ideal” modernized Wizard of Oz adaptation would just be Grunkle Stan.

ok i just found out that snow white's farquaad cut was apparently like an act of cruelty from the queen to keep snow white from being the fairest and i appreciate it a lot more now as a creative choice
what i don't appreciate is that dress bc it is still terrible for no reason

yeah it's a really weird pattern that all the female villains HAVE to have a sympathetic backstory and none of the male villains can. somehow the mistress of all evil's backstory is that she was scorned by a man (and mind u, they also did this for the Wicked Witch of the West) but jumba jookiba is actually evil
if the hades movie turns out to be legit then i guess they're evening the scores? at least?

Hey... who wants to bet John Silver doesn't get redeemed in the live action Treasure Planet 🤣

i find it rlly funny that so many ppl are convinced that Abusive Mom 101 (Mother Gothel) is secretly trying to protect rapunzel from being hurt by a man and that's why she's abusive
when if u wanted an actual Disney movie about moms who try to protect their daughters from harm and end up causing their children harm anyway, Sleeping Beauty is right there
they even do the same thing of isolating aurora, just with a bit more roaming space
#sleeping beauty#thats the entire point of sleeping beauty#they try to protect aurora from death#only for aurora to be so miserable by their methods#that she chooses death anyways#they have to step up for her#sleeping beauty 1959#princess aurora#tangled#mother gothel

"just didnt buy it" not the white guy invalidating and dismissing the struggles of people of color... almost poetic. it truly writes itself.
Dean's attempts to dismiss criticism for separating Nani and Lilo has a lot of bullshit and ignorant logic to it, but this particular explanation is by far the stupidest.

Nani having no remaining family or trusted neighbours or friends to take Lilo in wasn't a plot hole for the remake to fix. It's the whole fucking reason there's even a conflict about Lilo's custody in the first place.

In the original film, the threat of Cobra possibly taking Lilo away and putting her in the foster system isn't just Nani being sad and sentimental that she can't see her sister anymore (like the remake implies).
It's the very real danger of a vulnerable (and heavily autistic-coded) indigenous little girl being sent against her will to live with complete strangers, who may not understand or accept her individuality, abuse her or God knows what else. And neither Nani or Lilo herself have any say in the matter.
If Nani did have a close friend, neighbour or even another relative that could look after Lilo on behalf, that would have been the first option well before Cobra and child services ever got involved. Which is exactly why the original film includes no such character.
Which is where the issue of Tūtū and the new ending in the remake comes in.
If Tūtū is able to talk to the social worker at the last minute and arrange to become Lilo's guardian, then it can only mean that was able to do so the entire time, yet she inexplicably chose not to, even when knowing full-well what was at stake and seeing for herself how the sisters were struggling. And from Nani's evident surprise in the ending, Tūtū clearly never even entertained this idea to her at any point before springing it on her here.
Even worse, since Nani has been forced to surrender Lilo to the state, rather than giving her custody to Tūtū directly, the state now has full freedom to change their minds and send her where and whenever they want, and neither Nani nor Tūtū would have the power to do anything about it.
Which, again, wouldn't have been an issue if this really nice, caring and loving neighbour, who is definitely a good character that we should like and root for, had stepped in for Lilo and Nani as soon as their parents died. But because the rest of the plot still has to follow the original (despite her presence radically changing the circumstances) she just… didn't do that. So now this new solution is too little, too late, and the film ends with virtually nothing changing for Nani and Lilo's dilemma compared to the start of the film.
Nani surrendering Lilo to the state is already a horrible ending regardless of who she goes to, but the very existence of Tūtū as a character actively undermines the rest of the story, and it ironically creates a major plot hole where they were trying to amend a non-existent one.
Oh, and by the way, Dean. Y'know the whole thing about how an auntie or uncle could have stepped in to help the sisters?

They did get an auntie and uncle in the original, but you made one of them irrelevant and you made the other one the villain for no reason!
