I was told today that I am extremely selfish, inconsiderate and rude because I refuse to forgive my abuser. I’ve asked numerous times for my family to not include me in conversations with him or about him. I’ve BEGGED and BEGGED to just be left alone. I don’t care about that man, I don’t want to see or talk to that man and no one can respect that? I feel so betrayed by my family. My “grandfather” abused me, my grandma and my uncles our whole lives but now that he’s sick we’re all supposed to drop it, run to his side and be there for him because he’s old and sick? No. Absolutely not. But I don’t have a right to be mad apparently and because I refuse to forgive him I’m the rudest person in the entire world? Okay. And then for my uncle to let his girlfriend to call me all these names and speak down to me because I won’t have anything to do with it is just as heartbreaking as the abuse. Yesterday I got a group chat from my grandma saying she scheduled a zoom call with my “grandpa” and that she wanted everyone to come over on Sunday. I respectfully asked, for the billionth time to be removed from the conversation because I did not care and somehow I’m the awful person. I can’t process my emotions right now. My uncles are supposed to protect me, but instead threw me under the bus so his girlfriend could call me a piece of shit and inconsiderate because I won’t forgive my abuser and won’t take everyone’s feelings into consideration about not wanting to be involved. Okay, but what about my feelings? This man has made no effort to mend the bridge he broke, apologize for placing his hands on an innocent child. It’s not my responsibility to fix that relationship with him, it was his and he chose not too. He doesn’t care so neither do I. He’s got dementia anyway, so why would I care? He doesn’t remember me anyway so what’s the problem?

I feel so betrayed by my family right now.
