I drew this at the end of last summer, when I was feeling this way every day. It’s almost summer again now, and I haven’t felt this way in a long time.
And I think I’m doing it. Somehow. Finally. And I think you’re going to, too.

and i'm going to.

Handwoven scarf for my girlfriend 😊
Hand woven by me on my 24” rigid heddle loom. I used two different colours of variegated Tosca Light yarn, by Lang Yarns (one for the warp and one for the weft). It took about 6-7 hours of work start to finish, spread across three different evenings of work.

Were the World Mine (2008)
Inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, this wonderfully wacky musical tells the story of Timothy, the only openly gay student at an all boys school. Sick of being bullied for his sexuality, Timothy brews a love potion and uses it to turn everyone in his homophobic small town gay—including his straight, jock crush. Although I was skeptical of this film before watching it, I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. Were the World Mine delights with its comedic and touching moments alike, as well as its toe-tapping musical numbers. This unapologetically weird, queer, and earnest film is more than worth taking a chance on.
Director: Tom Gustafson
Runtime: 1h 35m
Genres: Musical, Romance, Fantasy

I was gifted some wonderful wool carders for my birthday, and I used them for the first time to create this skein of yarn. I blended some scraps and ends from previous projects, and I’m really pleased with the result! This took about three evenings of work to complete.

Denied (2004)
Troy is a former high school football jock living with his best friend and unrequited love, Merrick. Stuck between high school and whatever comes next, Troy feels listless and lost as he struggles with his identity and his feelings for his friend. While Denied has a production value consistent with its low-budget, its compelling story telling and authentic performances more than make up for it. If you are willing to look past shaky shots and muffled audio, you will find a lot to love in this movie.
Director: David Paul Scott
Runtime: 1h 36m
Genres: Coming of Age, Drama

I Saw the TV Glow (2022)
Set in the late 1990s, I Saw the TV Glow follows Owen and Maddy, two lonely kids in the suburbs. They are brought together by a shared love of a late night TV show called The Pink Opaque, which soon becomes the most important thing in each of their lives—until, one day, the show is cancelled and Maddy disappears. Years later, she resurfaces to reveal to Owen the mysterious truth about their favourite childhood TV show. I Saw the TV Glow is a movie that reaches out to you—that grips your chin and looks you in the eyes as it delivers its desperate and earnest message. One of the most refreshingly new stories to have come out in recent years, this film is an instant classic.

[ID: A digital sketch of a butch lesbian standing with his hands in his pockets. He is wearing a plaid shirt buttoned to the top over carpenter pants. He has his carabiner clipped to the hammer loop. He is smiling, and lines are radiating both from his smile and from his carabiner of keys. Under the image is a handwritten caption that reads: “butch joy in the bathroom mirror at 10:38 pm”. END ID]

Signature Move (2017)
Zaynab is a Pakistani lesbian practicing law in Chicago and training with a former pro wrestler in her free time. Although her traditional mother is determined to find her a husband, she begins seeing Alma, a passionate Mexican American woman who owns a local bookstore. Alma's open and loving relationship with her mother causes Zaynab to reevaluate her relationship with her own mother and everything she's been keeping from her. This offbeat, lesbian rom-com is full of laughs and a whole lot of heart. One of my new favourite queer indie movies!
Director: Jennifer Reeder
Runtime: 1h 20m
Genres: Romance, Comedy

Being 17 (2016)
Two boys, Damien and Thomas, can't seem to stop getting into fights at school. When Damien's mother—who is also the doctor treating Thomas' own mother—decides that Thomas should move in with them while his mother is sick, tensions between the boys reach a boiling point. The two of them must learn to coexist and, eventually, confront their true feelings for each other. Being 17 is not only a beautiful film, with incredible shots of the French mountains and countryside, but also a beautiful coming-of-age story. One of my new favourites of the genre.
Director: André Téchiné
