It honestly disturbs me, how much the Arcane fandom woobifys Silco.
Look, I get it. This is Tumblr, and putting villains in Leather Pants is kind of what we do here. But the extent to which the Arcane fandom coddles and even idolizes Silco is terrifying to me. Maybe I’m taking things too seriously, but it bugs me. And I feel that it needs to be out there.
-
-
Let’s get this straight. Silco was NOT:
-
A good man: This, at least, is something the fandom seems to be at least tangentially aware of so we won’t linger on it too long. But it still needs to be addressed. Silco threated to kill children, and judging by context clues he has done so in the past as it’s a credible threat. He killed, twisted, and did anything he could to get his way. But hey, again, the fandom seems to be aware of this.
-
A good leader: Silco was not a leader. He was a tyrant and a kingpin, ruling through fear and intimidation. He manufactured and distributed a toxic and addictive chemical substance that fostered dependency and addiction in the population, forcing them to be loyal to him. He allowed Singed to conduct horrific human experimentation straight out of Mengele’s playbook.
I know he wants independence for Zaun, but independence under him? We’ve seen what kind of ship he runs, and I honestly believe that he’s even worse than Piltover’s neglect and indifference. He’s not some proletariat hero, he’s Josef Stalin in a trenchcoat.
-
A good father: Okay, this is where I risk a controversial opinion.
SILCO WAS NOT A GOOD PARENT FOR JINX.
The fandom seems to be in love with how much Silco cared about Jinx, and I don’t disagree that Silco did, truly, love Jinx. But here’s the thing.
That’s not enough.
Silco’s response to trauma was to let it consume you and dominate your life. He fostered the same attitudes in Jinx, encouraging her worst behaviors and allowing her mental illness to fester and destroy her from the inside. Hell, he encouraged her to use it as her name, to let it define every part of her life.
And we see how much that damaged Jinx! She has visual and auditory hallucinations. Her abandonment issues are so intense that she tries to murder anyone she views as taking her loved ones away. And Silco allowed all this. Because he saw himself in Jinx. Because admitting she needed help would be admitting he was wrong. Because he finally had someone as fucked and damaged as him, and rather than helping her and making sure she got better, he dragged her down to his level.
But no, all the fandom hears is “Don’t cry, you’re perfect”. Yes, Silco loved Jinx, but what people can’t seem to grasp is that love can be just as toxic and harmful as hate.
-
Look, I get it. It’s all fiction and I’m taking this way too seriously. I know that, in real life, people would recognize people like Silco as harmful and toxic. But this shit matters whether we admit it or not. Fiction affects us. It affects our perception of the world. And the amount of people who stan Silco is scary to me. People don’t seem to recognize how tragic the story of Arcane really is, how ruinous Silco was to the world around him.
Anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox now. I just… I really had to get this off my chest.

reminder that if you’re questioning your gender, “what do I want?” and “what will make me happy?” tend to be much more useful questions than “what am I, really?”

this isnt my normal post type but im rlly fucking sick of the exclusion of nb people from trans spaces. i go thru a lot of the same struggles as binary trans people, and struggles that r unique to nb people yet i, and other enbies, r considered "not trans enough". its hurtful to see other trans people, people who should understand ur struggle, exclude u from a place u belong in
[edit: not all nb people identify as trans and that is okay!! pls just include nb people who do identify as trans in ur trans spaces]

I honestly can’t imagine having top surgery and not taking the opportunity to annoy everyone around me for the rest of our lives with puns about a “weight off my chest”

seeing people say shit like “i wish i as born gay” or “i wish i was born a different gender” makes me s o sad bc ill bet you dimes to dollars that person is on the lgbt spectrum but because of ingrained phobias and the way media portrays people like us, it feels like an insurmountable implausibility, when its really not. if you wish you were gay, or trans, or whatever, then like, maybe you should give the introspection a chance. compulsive heteronormativity is real and it can truly make you believe youre cis and straight and that you never need to think more into it than that.

You know what‘s nice? I always worry about all the places I want to visit and how little time I‘ll have for that once I‘ve finished university but then I remember: "Dude, I don’t want to start a family, I‘m not even sure if i‘ll ever be in a relationship" (rn i‘m like nope, no thank you) I won’t have to structure my life around those of my kids.
I‘ll have all the time I need to go to all the places I dream of. And it‘s nice to reassure yourself that you have so much time. Like I just finished high school last year and i‘m already worrying about how I won’t have time for anything once I start working, but I shouldn’t be doing that. I‘m so young, life has so many things to offer, and i‘ll have so much time to do all these things.

Reblog if a YouTuber has ever made you feel better after a shit day
I’m trying to prove a point to most adults that don’t understand the impact they can make in young people’s lifes.

a list of romance-free movies
there aren’t a whole lot of movies that don’t feature romance whatsoever unfortunately - but i did my best make a list of all the ones i know of (or can remember anyway). granted, a lot of them are what would be considered “kids’ movies” but i think they’re great nonetheless :D

But this is literally so true tho. Shortly after I found out that I was aromantic I was like “well now I have to become rich to make up for it” but no. I don’t want to be rich. A small apartment to myself and my cats full of plants and books and my Blu-ray collection is all I dream of.
ya ever feel like you have to pursue some great career to make up for the fact that you’re not going to get married or bear children

Remembering that YOU ARE ARO ENOUGH is literally so important.
Like, right now, i’m thinking like “hmm i have this friend who never had a crush that i know of, maybe she’s aromantic. wait- i’ve had sqishes (or whatever the name is for when you want to be someone’s friend, i forgot) before - does that make me less aromantic??? am I a fraud??”
No. It does not. And I am not a fraud. Being aromantic just means that you don’t feel romantic attraction. Have I ever wanted to do something romantic? No. Do i ever want to do something romantic in the future. No, I don’t see myself doing that kinda stuff. Boom there you have it. Man, i have to remind myself of that every day, it’s so mentally draining to constantly doubt yourself.
