I think it’s time for a pitbabe Rewatch cause it definitely was something I forgot a bunch of the characters in the end.

Just finished Secret Relationships and I have to say I’m a bit letdown by the ending they chose and some of the characterization in the last few episodes compared to the manwha.
I realize they are different mediums but they really did my boys dirty in some ways that makes me wonder if they fully understood the characters.
Jaemin was much worse in the manwha- he is the one that tells Daon to completely cut off his family and basically only rely on him. I’m not saying his family was great, but he would have still had connections to other people he loves, like his siblings, and he wouldn’t have had to feel as much shame and guilt about them without J telling him to. He also makes Daon believe that Soohyn is an abusive boyfriend and stages incidents to make it appear as if he is a victim, further isolating and making Daon feel guilty, yet again, for bringing SH into the picture.
SH also gets a worse wrap in the show- he does not interfere with his work because he never goes to insert himself at the office as a director. I’m not saying he doesn’t stalk him, or bother him, I’m just saying, he doesn’t make himself his boss and sabotage him. He also didn’t go to Jaemin to team up. The show really wanted us to dislike him a lot more than was needed. In the manwha he was rough, he was absolutely sketchy, and I’m not saying it was ok, but he was also a victim of Jaemin and while he took it a different way, he was also just reacting to the circumstances.
Daon himself I think gets the worst of the characterization in the final episode. In the manwha he fully rescues himself. But he does so in a way that he leaves Jaemin broken. He is not kidnapped in the original story, he is manipulated and goes along willingly on a “final trip” with Jaemin because he still feels guilty to him and believes he loves him. He was not clued into the bad behaviour to the extent at that point. They are kissing and talking and Daon is confused. It’s only when on the trip that Jaemin confesses he did all these things *for* Daon that he realizes he is a victim too. He doesn’t rescue himself in this big dramatic way, he just doesn’t let his emotions be used against him anymore. Jaemin threatens to kill himself and tries to hold on to Daon, but he finally wakes up to it and just leaves.
I know it doesn’t make as *exciting* tv that way, but it’s more in line with his sudden switch and seeing how he actually never loved Jaemin. It also doesn’t rely on someone else to save him. Jaemin had been the one “saving” him all along, so it’s important that he can save himself because he is capable and will not be controlled or manipulated to see himself as less than anymore.
Even his final speech in the show about being on a level with someone- yes he believed that neither J or SH could really love him because he wasn’t worthy but that doesn’t apply to his co worker who he is dating, so it made no sense to put that in at that point instead of earlier with Jaemin.
Ultimately, this show started out as a good and fair adaptation of pacing and storytelling for me but went off the rails a bit in terms of actually giving the characters a fulfilling and satisfying ending for their development and growth. The reason why the manwha was so page turning wasn’t because of the plot, it was the characters you were trying to puzzle out and getting insights into them little by little, which didn’t hold up in the end for me in the show.
* I also found it silly that they had time to go to multiple locations and rescue him and have him make it back in time to get to his conference presentation, like anyone else at this giant company wouldn’t have been there and their turn was still upcoming after all that? Girl, please. Also the implied reason for him going abroad was to run away from everyone and everything, not that his ✨dream✨ was to go so while he worked hard on it, it was silly to have the stabbing victim push for him to deliver it in the basis of his dream being fulfilled.

Saw some weird comparisons of the Love Sea vs TBNW NC scenes and how they were lacking.
Firstly, the ship wars angle with these two pairings is still so silly- you can like one without shitting on the other. They are all good friends IRL as well, and I am sure they don’t want to have to see this nonsense anymore.
Secondly, LS was literally about them having a relationship built on sex. TBNW was 2 virgin university students who were shy and working out how to be in a relationship and how to be open and share with each other - obviously they would have different intensity and frequency. It feels like people didn’t even watch the shows they are talking about.

Do you ever just feel burnt out and overwhelmed that you are chasing the relief of watching good a show but you can’t watch anything new cause it’s too much to think about but you also can’t decide what show to rewatch cause you don’t know what will actually make you feel better

I’m gonna say it….
I didn’t like Heart Stain
I am usually very forgiving of low budget kbl adaptations cause I understand the limitations, but friends, this one was not it for me.
I read the Webtoon and even though it wasn’t great, it got to the point it was trying to get to.
Firstly, I didn’t think the casting was particularly great based on the comic- the teacher specifically was just not the vibe of the one in the print version. He was almost too ambiguous on screen as opposed to the print version that felt clear. Maybe that was the director, I don’t know, but it just felt off.
I loathe a time jump, but it did a lot better in the comic with a larger gap and more of a chase. You get that he really did change and love him and cherish him in his absence. In the show it just kind of forgot the second half of the story. I wanted to see this man work, and I wish they had shown them on their graduation trip as well. (Probably budget cause they had no locations or extras)
A lot of the emotional stuff from the story and the growth of the ML was just kind of left up to us to fill in. I had whiplash from “I wouldn’t say I like him” to chasing him down the street and missing him at the last moment. There needed to be pining and there was none. We got some flashbacks to the “dating era” but ultimately there was no big moment. And even at the very last moment we still only get an I love you in a voice over.
It just sort of fell flat. I don’t think it was terrible or regret watching it, but I don’t think I will rewatch it and I wouldn’t put it up on a recommendation list, there are far better BLs to spend your time on.

I think it was supposed to be another way to highlight his loneliness. We see a lot of shots of him in his empty house and being removed from everything and remote, even when the delivery guy comes it’s a long driveway and a large private space that is walled off from the city. The camera is set back near the trees even, so you get the distance. He is the only person in the train at one point. He is even shot then from far away a lot to show the vastness of the space around him that is void of connection. He has no one to reach out to because his relationships are superficial.
I swear I’m trying to finish this episode but when Chian consulted ChatGPT for relationship advice I became so paralyzed with horror that I’m having trouble moving on

Anyone else notice that he doesn’t maintain his nails at all anymore in the finale? There is a close up of him on his phone and his thumb nail is long and jagged.
Not only that his girlfriend is not around and he didn’t value that, but that was something Sei noticed about him and now since he isn’t being noticed by Sei anymore he doesn’t bother.
