for sure i think that's a very real possibility!!! i know i am several months late to respond i just became active again now haha i hope that's not too strange !!

i can definitely see the logic behind that! it may even be true! i just felt i might give some more context to that old post because i was kind of unclear about it

it was meant to be in the context of my theory (well. i don't know if anyone else has thought of it before. i haven't seen it BUT they very well could have so i don't know if it's my theory. which is part of why i was so vague in that post) of kaede and miu being the ones who were supposed to die in chapter 1 instead of kaede and rantaro, due to the placement of the labs, but i didn't really say that. i just said 'kaede went off-script' as if it was a true fact. when it Is just a theory. and i also didn't even state the theory i just sort of implied it My Badddddd

the reason i thought this was, as mentioned, the lab placements. kaede and miu's were the only ones opened in chapter 1—and with rantaro dead, his lab doesn't open. i felt this was strange because Why would they make a whole lab and place it way later if they Knew he wasn't going to survive until then? they were only able to open it when kiibo lost touch with the audience, which wasn't supposed to happen, so why go through that effort and leave clues throughout the school for an area that would never be touched? the lab was specifically, consciously chosen for it to be revealed at chapter 5. i feel like it makes sense to have him survive until at least then, even if he died that chapter—chapter 5 is always super important, and in-game was completely derailed by kokichi, so i wouldn't be surprised for the original storyline of chapter 5 to have something to do with rantaro.

it's also suspicious, to me, in comparison to how the murders in chapters 2 & 3 are done. those chapters were definitely meant to happen the way they did. the motives, the floors, the labs were all tailor-made to specifically those particular victims and blackeneds, to the point where it's hard to imagine it being done through any other characters. the labs especially—all of the ones revealed in those chapters contained the relevant characters in those chapters. it's all so perfect in a way the other chapters aren't, and that's especially striking to me with chapter 1, which would supposedly be before the game went off the rails.

and i think the chapter 1 motives would be Perfect for miu—the chance to get off scot-free, as well as a time limit pressing down at her back? it wouldn't at all be out of character for her to kill someone out of desperation; she openly considers doing so in that chapter. i don't know the exact details of how her murder plan would go, of course, but i don't think it's unlikely that if shuichi and kaede hadn't begged her to work on the cameras, she could have had one. and it's possible she wouldn't even end up the blackened—in a classic chapter 1 fashion, the intended victim could change, and miu could end up kaede's victim, possibly accidentally or in self-defense or in some weird thing going wrong, very similar to what actually happens in chapter 4, so that you can still get the 1st trial. it's all just a hypothetical though of course i am just Tossing out Ideas

it's a wonder how the script ended up that way, though. part of me likes to think that kaede could have just accidentally broken it from remnants of her pregame self (like being a little more assertive than intended) because she's Awesome and Cool like that. another thing could possibly be the first time rantaro is supposed to go to the basement when monokuma needs a replacement like he was told in the survivor pad—there's a clear place for that in the story, in the brief period where everyone thinks monokuma is dead. and we do see him by the stairs of the library—likely watching for anyone suspicious heading down there at that time—but he never actually goes to the library until later (at least, as far as i know. i Could be wrong there, since i don't actually have the game to check for myself, but i can't seem to find anything about him being there), because he sees shuichi and kaede going down there. and it's possible this could have shifted things a bit. i don't know. even apart from this theory i think that whole thing is very interesting

as for your questions about how she knew: i mean, i think she could easily figure out from what she sees from the nanokumas. following the assumption miu was meant to kill, once miu starts tinkering with cameras instead of murdering, after all, would be a clear sign that something was up, and it wouldn't be hard to figure out what kaede was going to do from her setting up (that is the initial assumption before the fiction reveal, right?). she may not have known that kaede was going to fail, but she also wouldn't have known in this scenario that she would definitely succeed, either. her plan is something that is extremely susceptible to human error. and with only 1 hour left on the clock, it's easy to assume she wanted to take precautions and go for the safest possible option. or if you would really like to go with a scripted option: this murder could instead be a failsafe in case the main one falls through, so simultaneously planned while not being the fully intended one—since, after all, when you make real people participate, there's going to be some unpredictability involved, and backup plans wouldn't be out of the picture for something like this.

of course! again! it's just a silly little theory! i don't necessarily think it's canon. but i think it's fun to think about and makes sense to me personally, i can totally see your interpretation too

do you ever think about how kokichi was likely meant to survive until at least chapter 6 given the placement of his lab but he went off-script. and also same with rantaro’s lab placement and kaede going off-script. because it’s been on my mind lately

it’s so interesting to think about how the game could’ve changed if things went like how they were supposed to ……. also characters rebelling against the fate they were initially given (whether they were aware of this fate or not) is one of my favorite tropes hehehe😁😁😁

what are your thoughts on pregame kokichi?

this took a long time to answer sorry!!! i start getting Busy around this time (school my nemesis.......) but this ask is interesting enough that i can use my remaining free time to answer it! thank you!!!!!!

now a thing like this is something i personally can have a bit of trouble with—that is, making up a personality for a character that doesn't have one. when i have something to go off of in canon i can run with it all day and come up with so many things...but i need that little prompt to start with, and if there's nothing, i can't really think of anything. so for a Longgggggg while i've kept my hands mostly Away from the pregame characters, since most of them have so little about them i just couldn't think of anything that would satisfy me. but more recently, maybe like. a few months after i rewatched v3 last year, i started to think about them a little more...and now i think i can answer this question kind of!!!

pregame kokichi is a hard one considering he's one of the many that has like. 1-2 lines that don't say much at all about his character. like the most he has is this

and really Nothing Else of note. but after thinking on it it says A Lot.

already you get from it a guy who is Helpful and looks out for others, even in a situation where it might be dangerous! both caring and also maybe does not have a good sense of self-preservation...but not like, nervous or cowering at all. so, that's a start!!! though there's also a bit i wanna get into in order to elaborate more on what else i think about him (i anticipate this will get Long so. i will put the cut here)

yeah anyway the thing that made me Really start thinking about the pregame characters was the full realization of kaede and shuichi being like...basically the same, just kaede being a little more snappy. and i mean, i knew this the whole time, but i never put too much thought into it because like—yeah they're still the same guys that makes sense. (and i was in major denial about the ending at first haha)

but actually thinking about it it kinda intrigued me. of course they'd be like that. sure they were given different memories, but there's only so much that that can really change about a person, you know? like...there's the assumption i'd have had that they directly tweaked the personality alongside the memories, but honestly i don't think they did. i mean, of course, the memories do influence the personalities—some more than others—but that's as much as i'd imagine they'd have done in terms of personality-changing. they didn't do it directly.

it's like nature vs nurture, kind of. your memories make up a large portion of who you are and how you act, but they're not everything. there are certain things that are just inherent to certain people. two different people given the exact same memories would likely act similar, but ultimately there would be differences, because they're two separate, unique people, with their own quirks and preferences.

and for how the characters were made, i do believe that their backstories and intended personalities were based on their original personalities (whether you believe tsumugi was lying about the audition videos, and i do lean towards her lying, i don't quite think she was lying about getting a flash of inspiration from shuichi's nervousness, that part makes sense to me). kaede is just pregame kaede without the cynicism—because she's given a happier life prior to everything. i think parts of them leak in throughout the game that were not necessarily intended by tsumugi...just because those traits are part of Who They Are, and the memories can't change that. these might be obvious thoughts to have but i felt like talking about them haha

it's hard to say what those traits might be, since we see so little of them, and we don't know what exactly tsumugi would have intended, but you could perhaps guess...maybe kaede's temper? and well. i was going to have a ramble about my ch1 murder theories but i was having trouble wording it and realized that was Really off topic so i will move on

ANYWAY the reason i think this all has to do with kokichi: his pregame personality likely inspired some of ingame personality, so my thoughts on what parts...i think perhaps his Playfulness. i mean, a guy with a hairstyle like That has gotta be down for all kinds of fun and games. so i guess i see him as a playful little guy who wants to help others and maybe doesn't have the best survival instincts/views of self-importance...........

(sorrySorry i just recently read a 5 year old dr/woy crossover fic with kokichi and i haven't been normal since. it was so ridiculous too bad the author orphaned it they were kinda cooking...kokichi and wander are similar you're so right...wish i could talk to them about it SORRY I'LL GET BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!)

in all Seriousness though. i think that that small line has such a big influence on how he acts ingame. of course he's not nearly as willing to throw himself into danger for the others' sake...but i think that Care, that Desire to Help them still lingers, just under whatever backstory gave him those trust issues so he's not as Open about it. and the self-sacrificial nature i Mean...chapter 5. and it's how he kind of 'breaks character'. if you get me? i'm not sure if i'm explaining right...doesn't help i have to do it in increments between Other Things haha

i don't really know if i have an overall point to this but Yeah that's how i see pregame kokichi. i don't have much other thoughts though :( Do you want me to check on what's happening is all i really have to work with...i've seen people talk about him being a student council president and i like that thought. but nothing too concrete, pregame kokichi enjoyers tell me what you think about him i would love to hear what you have because i. do not have much! everyday crying at the lack of information so many things have
