@criticalstories sent from Caleb for Nott...
"Do you honestly think that now is the right time for this conversation?"
"Well, it's not like we're doing anything else..." Nott mused, looking at their surroundings. There's wasn't much to help out with freeing themselves from the iron chains and shackles they had found themselves in. Nott wondered if this was an Iron Shepard situation, but knew Caleb was probably thinking the same thing... But that wasn't what she really wanted to talk about.
She was fairly certain, if that's what this was... she wasn't going to make it out alive.
"All the same, Caleb, if I don't make it out of here alive... well, there's something important I need to tell you..."

Caleb thought it was cute. He had no negative thoughts of someone giving his fey cat the attention Frumpkin so richly deserved. He stroked the cat's head, speaking softly to him, "They are something else, are they not?"
Frumpkin purred, nuzzling Caleb's hand as if to agree further. Glancing up at their tavern's rooms, Caleb unraveled a thin wire of copper from around his finger, sending a short message to Fjord, explaining he would be off to a library for a few hours.
themightyzwei:
“Is that so?” This had certainly peaked Caleb’s interest now and despite his obvious aversion to Muse’s… flirting, perhaps, he certainly didn’t seem above inquiring over anything that allowed him access to more knowledge.
“Who was– sorry, who is she? What does she study? And… I would be very grateful if you were to help me get in. What could I do for you in return?”
They smile lightly, coking their head to one side.”Sisrerro Mithrali, Foremost researcher of the outer planes and inter-plainer travel. She’s rather niche, id say, but still respected, especially after meeting my dad and learning about the nine hells and all that…”
“Ill go put on an actual doublet and we can be off in just a moment.” They state, moving to get up from their barstool and give frumpkin one lass fuss behind the ears. Infernal never sounds cute, but the way they talk to the cat in their native tongue, is as close as it gets to baby voicing in the language

"Danke," Caleb followed Elliott after a moment of speaking to the smaller companion at his side. The hooded figure scampered out of the library, rather quickly.
"What documents would be necessary?" Caleb wasn't sure he needed anything locked away, but his curiosity was always getting the best of him. Anything could be useful. If not now, then eventually.
Caleb looked over the offered shelf, pulling several books and stacking them in his arms.
"Hello," Caleb offered the beaming clerk a faint smile of his own. He could be charming enough when he wanted to be... he simply seldom wanted to be. But you needed friendliness and charm when you wished to get what you wanted. A small hooded figure clung to his coat. Perhaps a child?
"I was hoping to access the library... I would like anything you might have in regards to magic and time. Is that something you would know?" Caleb thought the clerk looked rather young, but age and knowledge, or skill, were not exclusive to one another.

"That's very kind of you, Caleb, thank you." Yeza smiled, helping Luc settle into his seat and cutting his pot roast for him. Luc insisted he could cut his own carrots and Yeza sat down.
"It's your home, too, Caleb. You're more than welcome, anytime." Veth gave him a look, however kind, that clearly said 'You should visit more'. Sure, they weren't having their usual adventures and were no longer so dependent on only each other, but they still needed one another. However ideal their lives might look, Veth could never imagine Caleb not being in it now.
“Is there a spell that helps people not be hungry?” Luc asked, curious. “Well, is there a food spell? Just making food from magic? A birthday cake spell?” Luc’s eyes grow big again, the sheer idea of having a whole birthday cake whenever you wanted.
“If there is, Uncle Caleb knows it…” Veth teased helping Yeza set the pot roast and vegetables on the table. After that she pours the adults glasses of sherry and gives Luc a glass of grape juice so he can feel grown up with ‘grown up drinks’ as he’s been wanting to lately. He’s growing up way too fast for her liking.

"She is still alive, your mother? You are lucky to have her then. And now that you are older, you could settle down, if you wanted. Or are you and your mother too full of wanderlust for it? Nothing wrong with it, either way." Caleb smiled, taking another sip of his drink. The more he drank, the more relaxed he became, the more engaging he became.
"Have you been to Nicodranus? Lovely beaches there."
“Oh, no. Well, not originally. I work here now. At the academy, on and off.” Caleb blushed at the flirtation, chuckling slightly at the other’s embarrassment. He was fairly well dressed. There was a humbleness about him that didn’t quite match the silvery vest he wore under a dark burgundy suit.
“I’m not much for singing, but thank you for the compliment. I grew up in the country, a little village in this area. So the accent…” He waved his hand, indicating why it would be so similar. “What about you?”

"Wow, Jester," Yeza looked truly touched at the idea, though genuinely and understandably a little nervous.
"What a lovely idea," Caduesus mused looking to Veth, who still had yet to say anything after a few moments of silence. When Yeza's smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, squeezing Veth's hand, she spoke up, clearing her throat.
"Jessie, that... Yes, of course. Thank you." Veth laughed, slightly embarrassed at her misty eyes, "I wouldn't let anyone else. We didn't have any real plans. Maybe yellow and blue, but..." Veth took the blanket back from Yasha, using it to dab at her tears. Then folded it up, smiling again. "What about a beach theme?"
"Is that kind of redundant? You guys live on the beach." Beau snorted, then suddenly sat up straight in her chair, "The crib should look like a tiki bar!"
"No..." Yeza chuckled, looking nervously to his wife, "Right?"
"Yeza's right. It should be the changing table."
if she was being honest, there had been part of her who had been just a little about what veth and yeza would think about her gift. she really had never had any experience making blankets, creating images with a needle instead of a paintbrush and though she had rather enjoyed doing it, she did not know if her work had actually been good or fjord, who would watch over her shoulder, was simply being kind.
she had been working on it since the moment veth had shared she was pregnant and all of her work, she was glad to see, had officially paid off by the look upon both veth and yeza's faces.
" i thought about it. i promise you, though, there's not a single dick on there. well... i didn't add a single dick on there. if there is one it was artie wanting to give his blessing too i swear. " she joked with a laugh, though sobered slightly at veth's words, a bit of a chuckle leaving her mouth at beau's.
" it's wonderful yasha. i think you ought to be planning every other celebration from here on out." her head turned to look at scene, eyes trailing over her friends, her family, as this happy warmth struck her chest.
it had been too long. it always felt like that but truly... she wished they could do this every week, but what a wonderful, beautiful occasion it was for them to be meeting now.
" i also had one more gift i wanted to give to you, if you would let me, of course." her head tilted to the side, getting oddly and uncharacteristically nervous. " ...i don't know if you had something planned, and if you do, i can just make a painting for you, but i was wondering if you had plans for the babies nursery? and, if you didn't, if i could paint a mural or just paint it for you? "

@cupcakesmuses @themightyzwei gets an elliot
---
The library wasnt really like one of the prestigious ones in zedash or anything like that. They made a point to say that all are welcome, and keep that in their actions. That might've meant more riff raff but as far as Elliot could see, not really. He didn't really batt an eye at the taller, a little bit worse for wear man that came in during their shift as the clerk.
"Hello!" he beams a smile. "Is there anything i can help you find?"
#truneutralgood#help you find: elliot#caleb thread#I legit don't have any icons of Darvill smiling LMAO

Tragedy! I left my Mighty Nein matte lipstick in the bathroom of an Arby’s on the way to a job with my brother 😭 I’m hoping someone in the criticalrole community is willing to part with theirs? 😅 That mauve was my favorite. (I’ll pay of course.)

"Do you honestly think that now is the right time for this conversation?" (from caleb to veth!)
"You're always putting it off. If we worked by you're schedule, I don't think we would ever discuss it, so..."
Veth gave a shrug. She'd been patient long enough and there was always some reason for Caleb to avoid the topic. She understood his aversion to it, she'd known him a long time, considered him her closest friend. Her very best friend.
"Do you blame me--" Veth moved behind Caleb quickly, firing off a shot of her cross bow, "--for being concern about your happiness?"

It was a fog in his brain unlike something he'd experienced in a long, long time now... At first, it seemed the song was the one freeing himself from it. Like he'd been in a waking dream and now this beautiful creature was drawing him back to life.
To the water.
But then there was another song. From a voice he knew...
A voice he loved.
Only he'd never told them.
It was then the fog lifted, finding himself fighting against two counter melodies. He had a good ear, his father always said, he could pick up and follow along any tune... Almost any spell... He hummed along with Muse's song though he had not heard it before, picking up where the melody was more inclined to lead.
Caleb began to back away, waist deep in the water. He knew the siren would work harder, become vicious the moment she sensed he was no longer under her spell. His hands worked quickly, granting himself Expeditious Retreat to the ferry.
But he knew his failings. He was more than likely to fall under such a charm spell again.
"Can you Silence her?"
@themightyzwei @cupcakesmuses didn't ask for this (vc) (song)
---
"Caleb!" They sob, Muse watches as he lurches deeper into the water towards the sirens and the rocks they'll probably kill him upon. "Caleb!!" the tiefling screams as the hands come to keep from joining him.
"He's a lost cause." the old ferryman is one of the many holding the tiefling back from edge of the water "there's no way to break that spell."
There had to be a way. They fumble pulling their harp to the front of them, strumming it. Maybe, just maybe.. But they'd have to do more than just strumming the thing. Plucking out a sad melody, interspersed with long strums through the cords, they think. They'd been writing some songs, none of them potent enough to out magic the magic making him wade closer to his death.
Did you think id give up?
that this mightve shook the love from me?
Or that I was on the brink
How could you think darling I’d scare so easily?
Their song somber, voice raising at every line. they pause, trying to look for any sign of him coming back, before playing faster now, strumming harder.
Now that it’s done
There’s not one thing that I would change
My life was a storm Since I was born
How could I fear any hurricane?

Caleb gave a short chuckle, raising his glass to the young man, taking a sip before shaking his head, "I am afraid some obligations are keeping me here, but... I suppose you are right. For some people. Are you an adventurer?"
If Killian had hung around Rexxentrum for any length of time, he would easily hear that Caleb's accent was incredibly similar. Though his dialect was not as clipped or precise as most of the locals of the Capital.
