Rewatching Seven Samurai and one of the key components of this film is that all seven have no personal interest in this fight. They're not getting paid, the bandits have do nothing to them, they do it because they see it was the right thing to do. Apart from Kikuchiyo, none of them has backstories explaining their actions. Compare this with Rebel Moon, where every character has to have a lengthy flashback showing their tragic backstory which explains why they are fighting. No one is there for selfless reasons, they're all either seeking revenge or redemption because Snyder cannot conceive of characters who will do something purely for altruistic reasons.
