Mom: Check out this convection oven I got at Costco! I can even make a turkey in it! Me: There is no way I'm letting my Thanksgiving come out of that thing. Mom: Well this way we won't have to stay up till midnight like we did last year! Me: We didn't... Mom: Well, 9:30 anyway. Me:....

From Essie's Fall 2008 collection, here's Big Spender. A sexy reddish/purple/pink color, this one is an instant classic. Not too bright, but definitely not conservative. 3 coats to creamy perfection!

I'm all about orange and coral this spring, so I couldn't resist trying this Revlon shade, Siren, on my latest drugstore polish rampage.
Siren is a lovely semi-dusty orange that is not the pumpkin orange it appears to be in the photo. Definitely a bit lighter and more muted. I don't know what possessed me to stamp over it, but I wanted to experiment with my Bundle Monster kit I've gotten so little use out of so far. I tried one of the MB-208 stamps, which should have been an allover pattern. Unfortunately, the cheapy image didn't transfer very well, so I just stamped erratically all over it. I think it would have looked better if I had thought out my color combination in advance, but Halloween colors in April ain't the business, ya'all.

Ok, do not be fooled by these photos, this color is PURPLE. Stupid iPhone is color blind. MOVING ON. This is a new line I found at Rite Aid called Jesse's Girl High Intensity Nail Color. I don't remember the price point, but I picked up this one, called Blue Moon, along with another green glitter I'll show you at a later date. :)
This polish was weird - the color itself is a shiny grape with blue flash. It looks like it should be really shiny on the nail, but in fact each of my three watery coats dried kinda dull. NOT matte, but dull. Like it was already old or something. Topcoat fixed it, but still. I wasn't that amped on the color by itself - while an attractive Laker royal purple color, it was a little too.. I don't even know how to explain it. It looked like royal purple out of my Kit n' Caboodle in 1994.
Anyway, I wanted to jazz it up a bit, and I've been meaning to use my latest Nabi glitter topcoat, so I slapped a little #37 on it. #37 is clear round glitter in a clear base with clear glitter & MORE clear glitter in heart shapes! Basically it just reflects off of whatever color you're wearing, and it is AWESOME. I really want to see it over NYC's Lexington Yellow, from my previous post. It reflected red and silver with Blue Moon, and definitely gave my mani an attractive punch.

Here's my Easter color, almost a week too late :)
From NYC's "In a New York Minute" quickdry line, this is Lexington Yellow. I love these NYC cheapie polishes, I really do. $2 for decent quality, good coverage, and cute NYC-themed names? Can't beat it. I can't really testify to the quick drying-ness or lack therof since I use OPI's RapiDry topcoat, but the colors are gorge! Lexington Yellow is no exception - a super cute & girly yellow that is too bright to be a true pastel, but is slightly more muted than a sunshine yellow. I absolutely loved it, but I can see how some with lighter skin might shy away. 3 coats + topcoat.

Ohh Zoya, when you do it right you do it right! Meet Julieanne, Zoya's grape from fall 2010's Wicked Collection. This is a two coat blackened purple glitter (that looks pretty blue in the picture, I know). In the bottle it looks like it's going to be a purple-gold duochrome, but on the nails it definitely translates to a blurple jewel tone with gold (and silver?) glitter. This polish is right up my alley, I only wish it was more of the duo I expected it to be.

L: Ulta "Blue Streak"
R: Ulta "Oh!"
Sorry for my absence. I've been taking a leave of laziness but that doesn't mean I haven't been swatching! First up is a double Ulta post. Got these as part of a BOGO sale, I think they usually retail for about $8 a pop, which is more than I am typically willing to pay for a store brand.
The swatch on the left is Blue Streak, which ended up becoming the best blue in my collection. It's a bright Dodger blue cream with full coverage after 2 coats. I'm ordinarily not that stoked on blue in general, but this one is really really fabulous.
On the right we have Oh!, which I hated at first. I slapped it on late at night and I don't know if the lighting was bad or what, but it looked like the definition of a frosty nightmare. The next morning I woke up, and my nails were this lovely shade of rose with a gold/peach shimmer. This color reminds me of a sunrise, and definitely makes me say, "Oh!" Application was not at easy as it was in Blue Streak - this is 4 coats+, and it definitely got a little goopy and started pooling in my cuticles toward the end. Still worth it though, in my opinion.

Finally got my hands on a bottle of Illamasqua nail polish, now that they have it in Sephora stores everywhere instead of just online. At $14, I can't say the quality was really worth it, but the packaging is just gorgeous and for some reason I'm obsessed with the line even though none of the colors they had at Sephs really stood out. This one is called Purity, a solid warm peach cream. Took about 3 coats to cover visible nail lines, but I was really pleased with the end result. I'll probably splurge on more Illamasqua in the months to come, but not really for any good reason apart from the packaging makes me feel real classy-like.

My apologies for the pre-cleanup swatch, I know it looks awful but just try to focus on the stamp, the glorious stamp! This is American Apparel's Rouge as a base polish with Bundle Monster (Amazon.com offshoot of Konad) plate BM-211 stamped on top in American Apparel's black Hassid. This is the first time I've really had a chance to experiment with my new BM plates, but so far they work just as well as the Konad plates I have. Hassid was an excellent substitute for my *OFFICIAL* Konad stamping polish (which has sealed itself shut, by the way).
