At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes - an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. That is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense.

There was this new girl who was a year younger than me and she was some E_TP. I would say that she was quite loud and witty when she spoke, she laughed a lot but she wasn’t obnoxious or rude. With me she was just a little annoyed and rough with her words. I wouldn’t say anything of course but I’d...

You mistake me, my dear boy. I do care deeply for you now but don't believe that it was always there. That cold old women you first met was no act but just what you perceived it to be, a cold old women. Don't attribute my care for you to some transcendent idea about love but rather for my potential to change, a process of becoming instead of a repressed fixed self.

I would suggest just watching the documentary first, I believe the entire documentary is on youtube. The documentary focuses on Hubert Dreyfus, who is the expert on Heidegger, and his students who are now philosophy professors throughout the country. Also, A River Runs Through It is also a great book by Norman Maclean that describes the same thing, it was made into a movie by the same name with Brad Pitt. Csikszentmihalyi also has a TED talk on Flow.

Check out the concept of Flow by Csikszentmihalyi which is similar to Being in the World by Heidegger. There's a great documentary called Being in the World which makes Heidegger digestible.

Yeah, I might want to get away from language for a bit after this semester. Who are some good aestheticians?

He couldn’t stop looking. This forbidden fruit was the temptation of his life. This feeling of lustrous taboo-like gold dripping from a wall he painted at three in the morning. The anxious trembles of defiance as if all was lost and gained just by that vibe of illicit action. He had butterflies...
