Note
Not to be rude, but is there a reason that you didn't include Magnus Bane in your set of LGBT iconic characters of color?
I compiled sets of characters I know. If there is someone who isn’t in the sets, it’s simply because I don’t know the character/ I’ve never seen the movie or show that they’re in. You are totally free to add to the post though!

Important Signs from the March For Our Lives Demonstrations Today
May we never forget who is most affected by these issues. May we never forget those who have been screaming in pain for decades but have never had this type of opportunity to be heard.

This is Courtlin Arrington
She was shot and killed at Huffman High School in Birmingham, Alabama last week. Another student who she was with, was also injured. She was seventeen years old, a couple of weeks shy from her eighteenth birthday. She was accepted to Concordia College for Fall 2018 and had dreams of becoming a nurse. Her life was cut short because of gun violence, but she has not received the same national outcry as the Parkland, FL victims. Her story deserves to be heard.
National Walkout Day occurred yesterday morning, and hundreds of thousands of students walked out of their classrooms in solidarity and protest of gun violence. The demonstration was generally suppose to last for seventeen minutes for the seventeen victims of the Stoneman Douglass. However, one little girl added an extra minute for Courtlin.

Pictured on the left is fifth grader, Naomi, from Alexandria, Virginia, who organized a walkout with her friend Carter (pictured on the right). On the reason she included an extra minute, Naomi stated “when African-American women are killed their names aren’t *remembered, so I thought it was important to add”.
I was literally in tears reading this story. The fact that this little fifth grader organized a demonstration at eleven years old and honored her fellow Black sister, who no one paid attention to, speaks volumes. This is what it means to be a light. I am so proud of Naomi.
Rest in Peace Courtlin, you deserved better.

The Parkland Survivors Met With Chicago Students to Discuss Gun Violence.
“Yesterday, the members of @AMarch4OurLives got to meet up with some of the most wonderful and most strong spoken students of Chicago. “Florida’s safest city” and one of the cities in America most affected by gun violence came together to share stories, ideologies, and pizza. Those who face gun violence on a level that we have only just glimpsed from our gated communities have never had their voices heard in their entire lives the way that we have in these few weeks alone. Since we all share in feeling this pain and know all too well how it feels to have to grow up at the snap of a finger, we were able to cover a lot of ground in communicating our experiences. People of color in inner-cities and everywhere have been dealing with this for a despicably long time, and the media cycles just don’t cover the violence the way they did here. The platform us Parkland Students have established is to be shared with every person, black or white, gay or straight, religious or not, who has experienced gun violence, and hand in hand, side by side, We Will Make This Change Together” - Emma Gonzalez on Twitter

“After the Egyptian and Indian, the Greek and Roman, the Teuton and Mongolian, the Negro is a sort of seventh son, born with a veil, and gifted with second-sight in this American world,—a world which yields him no true self-consciousness, but only lets him see himself through the revelation of the other world. It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his twoness,—an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.” - W.E.B Du Bois
Double-consciousness is a concept that was developed by W.E.B Du Bois in 1897. The term describes the internal conflict African Americans have with identity. By this theory, Black people in America recognize their African self, their American self, and how white society makes it possible for the two to coexist. Therefore, Black people see ourselves for who we are and we also see ourselves through the lens of racism and how a racist society perceives us.
