Burnt orange, rust, amber, copper, pumpkin ... whatever you want to call it, I’m into it! These warm hues make me want to curl up on a velvet sofa, sip a pumpkin spiced latte, and listen to the rain hit the roof. It just has cozy written all over it, doesn’t it?! And that’s why this color palette is the focal point of this fall’s seasonal edit! 🧡 On the blog, I’m breaking down a few of my favorite ways to incorporate this color into your space + plus a few of my favorite pieces! - Head to the link in my bio or swipe left for a sneak peek <<< Image via @manerstudio https://www.instagram.com/p/B27IkwOg4PF/?igshid=12pllot8egim5

The 6 Types of Paint Finishes and Sheens, Explained
Images via Norm Architects & Residencia
There’s no arguing that painting the walls can make a huge difference in your space. It typically takes a few hours, and you can completely transform the look of your room. It’s no wonder why it’s a perfect weekend DIY!
You probably spend hours narrowing down the perfect color, bringing home samples, get all the proper gear and tools... but do you ever put thought into the finish or sheen of the paint itself?
In reality, the finish is just as important as the color and it's something that gets overlooked all the time!
There are six different finish and sheen options to choose from when buying interior paint: matte, flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss. Depending on what you're painting and the look you’re going for, each sheen looks different and durability varies. Some finishes will be easy to clean, while others will highlight every imperfection on your wall, so it’s important to know what finish and sheen to use, when and where.
Images via Lotta Agaton & Sara Medina Lind
Flat and Matte Finishes:
Flat and matte paint finishes are non-reflective and are typically good for low-traffic areas of your home. They're ideal for surfaces with slight imperfections, but also ones that won’t get scuffed up too often, as it’s hard to clean.
If you have small children or if you’re are constantly moving things around in your home, then this finish probably isn’t for you. You won’t be able to get away with a damp cloth or sponge for cleanup, you’ll have to repaint the entire wall to keep it looking pristine.
Ideal places for either a matte or flat finish would include formal living rooms, dining rooms, ceilings, or a formal office.
Images via Joseph Dirand & B.E. Architecture
Eggshell Finish
An eggshell finish is usually my go-to ever since I can remember.
This low-luster sheen appears slightly velvety and soft, similar to the actual surface of an eggshell
almost like the name means something!.
It bounces light around the room ever so slightly and can resist stains and fingerprints better than a matte finish. An eggshell finish is a good option for family rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and entryways.
Images via Dwell Magazine & Joseph Dirand
Satin Finish
A satin finish has pearl-like sheen and is slightly more reflective than eggshell finish. Since it’s more reflective, it’s also more durable to withstand dirt and grime, therefore, easier to clean. Always a plus, right?
It’s perfect for moderate to high-traffic areas like family rooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, kids’ rooms, moulding and millwork, and interior doors.
Images via MyDomaine & Deuren Centrum Noord
Semi-gloss and High Gloss
You guessed it, both finishes are all about a sleek, glossy appearance. This finish can make a statement all on its own, even in small doses.
These shiny sheens can be glamorous, but they are also very tricky to pull off. If you're thinking about painting your walls with a glossy finish, you might want to think about hiring a professional because the paint will end up showing every tiny imperfection in your wall, and your painting skills
.or lack thereof, like the brushstrokes. Instead of going all in on the walls, you could add accents of this high gloss finish on your moulding and millwork, or as an accent on the ceiling.
Glossy finishes are ideal for areas that get a lot of wear and tear, like kitchens and bathrooms since it's easy to clean and has a resistance to dirt, stains, and mildew.
I hope this post helped you out the next time you think about painting some interior walls in your home!
And, of course...these are just guidelines...design is all about having fun, so use your imagination! Let me know what you thought about this post and what paint finish is your favorite in the comments below!

Free Download - 2019 Monthly Desktop & Mobile Calendar Wallpaper
It’s New Year’s Eve and I actually can’t believe I’m typing that! Where has this year gone?!
The time between Christmas and New Years is sort-of weird. We’re kind of winding down from our busy season while also prepping and making sure we have what we need for the year ahead. I’ve been anxiously cleaning out closets, drawers and organizing overall clutter
and it feels so good. There’s nothing like starting the year with a fresh clean slate. And let’s be honest, having a little something new always helps. It‘s like new workout gear to get me in the mood to go to the gym, or a new desktop and mobile calendar wallpaper to get me in the mood to plan the year out!
I‘ve designed simple monthly desktop calendars for the past couple of years because I always found myself needing a quick calendar reference on the computer. So, back by popular demand is our free monthly desktop calendar! And not only did I design a desktop calendar, but also a wallpaper for your mobile devices, too!ï»ż
This background wallpaper is the perfect something new to get your year started off on the right foot!
I‘ve been testing some different calendar designs out on my phone over the past couple of weeks and finally knew which one was the winner because I couldn’t stop looking at it!  This modern calendar is one of my favorites. The font is one I’ve been obsessing over for quite some time and wanted just the right place to use it. And as for the layout, it might look similar if you‘ve been following us for a while. It’s very similar to a Christmas greeting card we sold a couple of years back. Each month of the calendar features a different combo of neutral colors with a simple and subtle calendar in the middle.
To download your free desktop and mobile calendar, enter your email address at the bottom of this page or click here.
For the best results, I suggest using the “fit or stretch” option on a desktop computer/ laptop, and the “perspective” option on your mobile device. Please keep in mind that each device is different, so the size and colors may slightly differ.
Let me know your thoughts about this year's desktop and mobile calendar in the comments section below! Are you loving the addition of a mobile version? Any feedback helps me know what to create in the future and is so much appreciated!
Happy New Year!

Fall to Winter Decorating Ideas for a Timeless & Modern Home
We're hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house for the first time, and as you can probably imagine, the to-do list is a mile long. Among those to-do's is to decorate the house for fall. To me, decorating for fall is one of those tricky things, mostly because the timing is weird. When's the right time to decorate, exactly?
Fall kind of gets lumped into Halloween and Thanksgiving, and if you decorate for both of those holidays, suddenly your fall decorations might seem a little more themed than you intended. Like the faux leaf garlands, colorful pumpkins, and orange and red wreaths.
When decorating for a timeless and modern home around the holidays, it's all about creating the feeling without going so literal, especially for fall.
Since fall is such a short period of time before we get crazy with Christmas decor, I try to keep most decorating neutral and transitional. Meaning I don't have to take things down just to re-decorate for Christmas, but instead just add a few things to it. It's way less stress around an already stressful time, especially if you're hosting. And in the end, there's just less stuff to store the other nine months of the year. A win-win, right?
To get the look, I've gathered up a few fall to winter decorating ideas for a timeless and modern home.
1| Wool Floor Pouf
2| Jute Rope Pouf
3| Matte Black Candle Snuffer
4| Matte Black wick trimmer
5| Pip berry wreath
6| Fireplace matches
7| Fallen Leaves concrete candle
8| Black Floor lantern
9| Vintage Loom Area Rug
10| natural weave area rug
11| steel Firewood storage hoop
12| Natural Manzanita branches
13| Fireplace tool set
14| Mini concrete Container
15| Faux black antlers
16| wool knit blanket
17| black sea-grass basket
Transitional pieces are key
This first idea is probably most important for decorating for a timeless and modern home. Look for pieces that can easily transition from fall into winter and Christmas, as I mentioned before. This is sort of a minimalist mindset approach, but it also helps because you won’t have to store double the amount of decorations for the other nine months.
Look for items that feel like fall. Forget the colorful pumpkins and corn husks, try to pick out pieces that don’t scream “fall”, but instead gives you a feeling about a season. Before you buy, ask yourself it can transition into winter or be used in other parts of the house for the rest of the year.
A good example of this would be a simple wreath, like a white pip berry wreath. The simplicity allows it to blend easily into fall, or winter, without anyone even knowing you didn't redecorate.
Neutrals for the win
I’m always a fan of neutrals, from clothes to decor, that’s nothing new. So it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that I stick to neutrals also when decorating for fall. Think cream, tan, beige, brown, etc.
The color of something one of the first things I look for when buying holiday decor, particularly pieces that you will use year-to-year. I think this is especially key when you're decorating for a timeless and modern home.
And if you do want to go crazy with color one year, you can easily add colorful accents without having to purchase all new decorations.
Wood accents
Shocking or no? Wood is one of the easiest and most versatile ways to decorate for fall without feeling so “decorated”, not to mention it also is perfect for winter. From a few styled firewood logs to a beautiful organic branch in a vase, there are so many ways to pull this look off. One easy way is to take some over-sized branches, with or without the leaves on them, and place them in a tall, sturdy vase or pot. Or just stack a few pieces of cut wood (white birch if you're feeling fancy) next to your fireplace. Many homes these days have beautiful built-ins for firewood, but if you don’t have one, try a log loop, or even tossing a few into a sea-grass basket. Even if you’re not burning them, or have an electric fireplace, they’ll give a cozy appearance.
Wood accents like decorative sticks or a simple branch wreath are perfect pieces that easily transition into winter because you can customize it per season with lights, greenery, and florals.
Layer the rugs & add in those blankets
You layer your clothes as we head into fall and winter, so is it so crazy to layer your home for the fall and winter? It’s all about creating that cozy element and little details like rugs, pillows, blankets, and drapes are just what you need to do it. Since I suggested sticking with a more neutral pallet, this is where it’s fun to bring in lots and lots of texture and pattern!
One simple idea is to layer a couple of rugs on top of one another. If you already have a patterned rug try adding a larger, solid rug underneath or if you have a large solid rug, try adding a vintage or cowhide rug. It’ll just make your space feel slightly more cozy, especially if you have hard floors. Up from the floors, think about the other hard surfaces in your space where people sit. Benches, ottomans, and chairs can easily be warmed up and look a little more inviting with a couple of throw blankets or small sheepskin rugs.
Accent lighting
Setting the mood is always important, and especially so in the fall and winter because we lose so much light, at least here in Seattle. Accent lighting becomes our best friend this time of year, and it also adds tons of coziness to a space. Lighting is one way for your guest to feel like they’re welcome. It’s all about creating an environment where you want to snuggle up with a blanket, a good book, and glass of wine.
If you have a fireplace or some sort of indoor fire-pot, then you’re already a step ahead. Nothing beats the warm glow that a fireplace can give off. If not, that’s totally ok, too. Think about adding some large lanterns or more candles to your space. Large black floor lanterns work great outdoors in the summer on a deck or patio, but they're even better when you bring them in for the fall and winter. Place them in groups of two or three at various heights in small voids around the house. Use a giant pillar candle inside the lanterns or group a few tall pillar candles together. If you don’t have lanterns, you can use some tall glass vases with decorative rocks. Goodwill is a fantastic place to find a bunch of these for cheap!
There are also lighted branch trees that will look holiday-esque without feeling like an actual Christmas tree, since we're technically decorating for fall. These come in so many different heights so you can get multiples at different heights or just one larger one. For fall, place it in a pot with some floral foam and top with some moss so it looks like a houseplant.... or maybe more like house-tree. Then when Christmas rolls around, you can take it out from the pot, decorate it with a few bulbs and add a tree skirt.
Sometime’s it’s not a visual thing
Sometimes when decorating for the fall, it’s actually not even about the visual decorations, but it’s about enticing your other senses. The best way to do this is with a scent. This is a total must if you are entertaining, too. There's nothing more delightful than when you go to the bathroom, and there’s a beautiful candle burning. It's really those tiny little details.
One of our favorites this season has been a candle we did in collaboration with Lake Washington Candle Company called Fallen Leaves. It really embodies everything this season is about and will leave the room with a yummy fragrance.
Sticking to a simple color palette, and picking pieces that can transition from one holiday to another are just a couple of ways to decorate your timeless and modern home for fall and winter. So tell me, what are some of your favorite ways to decorate for the fall? Do you usually decorate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, or just one or the other? Let me know in the comments below!

Top 3 Questions about our Concrete Vessels, Answered
It's been a little over a year since the launch of our new concrete collection back in 2017, and since then, we've been hustling to fulfill orders, and are simply blessed by all the positive feedback about the line. If there's one thing I enjoy most, it's having face-to-face interaction with our customers.
Funny to say as an online business owner, right?
Since we are mostly online, having face-to face-interaction with our customers is something that doesn't really happen. But the truth is, we seriously love being able to be in front of our customers and it's why we started vending at so many local events in our area.
We love hearing what you like and dislike, why it caught your attention, and what you'll use the vessel(s) for.  But, if there's one thing that has stuck out in Jacob and I's mind while talking with our customers, it is the questions we get asked about them. As much as I think we try to explain everything thoroughly, sometime's we might forget talk about one thing or another, or sometimes it's just saying it over again, in case someone missed it.
So if you've ever had questions about our concrete vessel collection, this post is (hopefully) just for you.
Here are the three most common questions we get asked about our concrete vessels.
  1
-
What's it made of?
Concrete! Our unique blend makes it look like anything but concrete because of it's smooth texture, and that's just the way we like it. Unique materials such as recycled marble and dye are added to achieve it's luxuriously soft finish.
For a look at where we this collection started, check out our blog post "Introducing our New Concrete Collection"
  2
-
Can you put water in there?
The concrete is finished with a wax sealant, but since concrete has such a naturally porous texture, standing water will soak in over time.
We don't recommend using the vessels for vases, but they work great as planters (with dirt) for succulents, or as an air plant holder.
  3
-
Is it food safe?
Concrete it quite a bit of a different material than ceramic, so it's not ideal for all types of food. Our vessels are great for certain types of dry items. Just be aware that any kind of oil may permanently discolor and stain the concrete.
We usually opt for wrapped candies, nuts, garlic, salt, sugar cubes, etc.  It's not the vessel you'd want to eat chips and dip out of, you know?
So there you have it, those are the three most popular questions that we've been asked about our concrete vessels. I hope this post helped some of you online shoppers and now have a little more clarity about our vessels! It's not every day that we get to be in front of our customers and readers, but my goal is to share more about our products and us, inspire you through images and interiors, and teach you little tips and tricks along the way.
Do you have any questions for us? Let me know in the comments below, or of course, feel free to contact us. And if you're in the Seattle area, don't forget to check out where we'll be popping up this fall and winter and shop in person!

How To: A Simple and Modern Father's Day Gift Wrapping Idea
Father's day is just around the corner and if you're like us you probably still need to get the gift. But, even if you're ahead of schedule and already have the present, have you thought about how to wrap it up?  Last month, we started the first of a new series featuring gift wrapping ideas for special occasions. In our latest blog post, I wrote about our Top 3 Picks for Father's Day, so today,  I'm going to piggyback off of that post and share a minimal and modern gift wrapping idea that is perfect for Father's day.
We're swapping out the ribbon and bow for something a little more masculine, and not to mention, practical, too. Beautiful leather cord and a carabiner hook... that is sure to impress the man in your life, right? This gift wrapping idea is super easy, and best of all, you can find all the materials at a local craft or hardware store. Here's how to create this simple Father's Day gift wrap.
Materials
kraft paper
black leather cord
a carabiner hook
double-sided tape
scissors
the gift, in a box
Step 1
Wrap the gift
Cut the paper to size and then wrap up the gift nice and neat. I opted for brown kraft paper, which already has more of a rustic, masculine vibe and used double-sided tape for a seamless look.
 Step 2
Thread the leather cord
Start by threading one end of the cord through the hook and pull enough through so you can tie it on the bottom. While holding the hook in place on top, wrap the leather cord under the box and around the opposite side. Take the longer piece and put it through the hook. Repeat and wrap the cord underneath the box the opposite way and put it through the hook. Make sure to keep everything tight and repeat as many times as you'd like.
 Step 3
Finishing Touches
Once you have wrapped the cord as many times as you want, tie up the two loose ends on the bottom, and trim the excess cord. Once you flip the gift back over, you may need to adjust some of the pieces of leather cord to lay flat.
I love this gift wrapping idea because it's not only modern but also practical. There are also so many different materials you can use in place of the leather and hook, just depending on what the recipient is into and the color combinations are almost endless.
If you still need a gift for Father's Day, check out our latest post, "Our Top Three Picks for Father's Day" or some of our other gift guides below!
