Alex takes a hard turn on his career path and leaves the place he thought he would end up staying. Giving himself a new chance that he’d be lying if he didn’t admit was at least partly because he didn’t think he could have the other things he wanted where he was. He ends up loving what he does though and it brings him back to that same place years later. That same place where Henry still is, and where Alex can’t avoid seeing him. Eventually he starts to hope again and things work out even better than he thought they might. Thanks to my betas for giving this a read-through and finding the things i missed.

Across the way, Alex reappears in the window with a mug of coffee cradled in his hands that’s so large it might properly be called a bowl. This time he looks over at Henry, smiling as he takes a sip, and gives a little wave. Henry is so, so fucked. (It’s one thing after another: Henry’s having one of the worst weeks of his life. Luckily, his new neighbour Alex is always there to look out for him.)

He's tired of feeling stuck inside his self-made prison and frustrated that running halfway across the world from his suffocating family didn't magically remove all of his woes. So he'll run. He'll give it his best shot. Who knows? Maybe it'll be an enlightening experience. But Henry doubts it. By the look on his face, David is feeling rather pessimistic about it, too. But Henry promised he would try, and he keeps his promises. Putting one foot in front of the other when each step feels heavy is something he's already good at. He may as well try to pick up the pace. --- or, Henry's therapist said he should run because it'll be good for him - it turns out, she was right.

Five Stars, The Key to His Heart - for twistedmiracle | M, 5.1k

"Here you go," Alex says when he returns, placing a bowl of steaming green chile and basket of tortillas wrapped in foil to keep them warm down on the bar. "Mexican comfort food at its finest." And it is. There's just enough spice from the chiles to make his mouth tingle, and Henry feels warmed from the inside out, like an invisible blanket has sprung from him and wrapped tightly around him. Or: the one where Alex and Henry find their way to each other through food.

Please have your boarding pass and passport ready for a new RWRB adventure! This prompt-based fest invites creators to follow the RWRB crew beyond the White House and Kensington Palace. Perhaps across continents, maybe through hidden alleyways in foreign cities, or just a strong desire to travel.

OUR TRAVEL ITINERARY:

First Destination: Prompting (May 25-June 8)

Prompts that take our beloved characters on adventures to different cities, countries, or even fictional worlds. From strolls through vibrant Dutch tulip fields to sunrise mountain climbing in the Tetons, from secret rendezvous in Tokyo to road trips through Canada’s maritime provinces, where does your wanderlust take you? Prompts can focus on any location or cultural experience: royal visits, diplomatic missions, honeymoon getaways, meet-cutes at Airbnbs, or just a fun, off-the-beaten-path trip. The goal of the event is to have a global feel and get to travel the world through our characters’ eyes!

Second Destination: Creating (June 9-August 8)

Claim a prompt that speaks to your travel-loving heart. All AO3-supported creations are welcome, fics, podfics, fanart, filks, etc… However you choose to tell your travel tale, we’d love to have you join our adventure.

Final Destination: Posting (August 11-18)

He kind of hated Henry for getting one over on him. 2. He also kind of respected him for it. 3. He wasn't going to rest until he got him back. 4. Other than his sister and his best friend, Henry might be the first person he's ever met that might be able to compete with him. 5. Obviously, that means Alex needs to destroy him.

He murmurs, "I don't do well when people leave." A stillness falls between them, and Alex's heart begins to rush, fearing that Henry will simply turn around and walk away. “Let’s go find her,” Henry answers.

It’s not the first time they’ve done this; arguing in comments about plot points and characterization. In a strange twist of fate, Alex actually knows Keysmash. Sort of. Keysmash, otherwise known as Henry, was a friend of a friend of a friend. Nora, Alex’s best friend, was friends with Pez - a fun guy - who was friends with Henry. It’s a small world after all and all that but technically, Alex hasn’t met Henry officially yet. No, Alex and Henry have had heated conversations in AO3 comments. There was a whole thread of comments on one Theo/The Boy fic that went back and forth for quite some time. When Nora had seen it, she had huffed in annoyance and decided then and there to make a Discord server because “no fic writer needs to be witness to the sexual tension between you, unless you want them to use it for inspiration for a fic.” Alex was indignant, twitterpated and totally appalled. He still argues to this day that there is absolutely and definitively no UST between him and Keysmash.

Good morning, friends!

We're posting the first round of reveals today, and we just wanted to share a bit about our goals with this event.

May is Mental Health Awareness month, so we put together this mini exchange in hopes of spreading a bit of positivity. All the fics in the collection have an uplifting or healing theme and a happy ending guaranteed.
