Love on the Brain
Ali Hazlewood
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thoughts:
Cute nerds boning!
Socially awkward guy meets girl who thinks he hates her, plot twist they love each other.
Good enemies to lovers content complete with forced proximity and a shared goal.
Their banter is cute and the one miscommunication part actually fit into the story and wasn’t drawn out to hell and back.
The end drama was unexpected and honestly had me clutching my pearls while I read 😂

The Beautiful
Renée Ahdieh
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spicy Peppers:🌶️ 🌶️🌶️
Thoughts:
Not much smut but dear lord the story was well written.
Celeste is a French girl who has left her home in Paris to live in a convent in New Orleans, along with her new friends Pippa and another girl who dies almost immediately. Bastien is a teenage (???) demon? Vampire? It’s entirely unclear what this guy is as even the author says two different ages in the book. But in the end we find out he’s just a normal human boy who is either 19 or 18 depending on what chapter you’re reading.
Celeste calls herself a murderess because she killed a man who was attempting to sexually assault her, I call her sensible 🤷‍♀️ Bastien agrees so he’s cool.
We meet Bastien in a dark alley beating a beggar within an inch of his life, when Celeste chooses to intervene despite her lack of context. See the lover boy is actually defending a woman’s honour so he’s clearly done no wrong.
Odette is best girl 10/10
Odette is for the ladies.
As the plot thickens the murderer gets closer to Celeste and eventually makes a move on one of the Court of Lions members.
I didn’t see the killer’s identity happening AT ALL. That was a well done twist, even if it did come out of left field. The fight was cool and we ended with a weird mix of Twilight and ACOTAR.
Stoked for the next book, although I’m concerned about Michael and the weird group he’s with.

The Fine Print
Lauren Asher
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thoughts:
Fictional Disney CEOs are apparently just as shitty as the real ones.
Rowan is the youngest son of the president of DISNEY…. And his grandfather just died, leaving a will full of catches. Rowan has to find a flaw in his grandfathers perfectly designed theme park and improve on it in order to claim his portion of the inheritance and become CEO of Dreamland.
He comes off as a brash, stubborn dick until you learn that he’s a brash, stubborn dick with a heart.
Rowan is intrigued by a bright young woman , named Zahra, with personality for days who disregards the rules and talks back to him, she’s got trauma but she’s always wanted to be a creator for the parks attractions.
What a coincidence, Rowan needs creatives for his project and guess who gets in immediately after submitting a drunken application berating the parks most successful ride all because her ex designed it using her stolen work? Zahra.
They end up together faster than I thought they would but it’s all just a ploy to drag you into the half-a-book-long miscommunication arc.
Declan breaks up with her twice and both times he comes back the next day, gift in hand, expecting her to take him back.

Declan is the eldest son of the president of DISNEY…. And his grandfather just died, leaving a will full of catches. Declan has to get married and produce an heir in order to claim his portion of the inheritance and become CEO of Dreamland.
He is obviously in love with his assistant Iris, who has dyslexia and is like 10 years younger than him, and she knows him like the back of her hand which makes falling for him that much easier.
There’s way too many miscommunication situations that make the book drag on for way longer than it had any right to go on for.
Dude goes full simp in the end. Buys a house with a huge greenhouse, replaces his expensive sports car that his dead mother left him with a minivan that they can 'fill with children', and adopts a dog for her that she never even wanted in the first place.
Overall creepy dude.
Smutty scenes were detailed and enjoyable despite the rest of the book.

King of Pride
Ana Huang
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️
Thoughts:
Genuinely was surprised when the smut came around, it was that slow.
The main guy owns a private club bar thing and the main girl is a bartender there. They vibe over playing piano and he shows her his secret writing room hidden in the library where they eventually fuck.
The public finds out that they're fraternizing and the girl gets fired because they have a no fucky clause in their work contract that she knowingly broke.

Love, Theoretically
Ali Hazlewood
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️
Thoughts:
It really bothers me that Ali keeps having her main girls say "I'm on birth control, you don't have to wear a condom." and the guy immediately cums inside her....
This book was incredibly slow and the 'enemies to lovers' attempt just came off as 'hostile guy intimidates woman into his arms' and not in the fun way.
Elsie Hannaway is the main girl who works as a theoretical physicist by day and works as a 'fake date' by night. She's fake dating a guy who is ace and hasn't come out to his family yet and she can't help but feel like his brother is onto her.
In reality her fake date's brother is Jack Smith (creative name), an experimental physicist who thinks she is manipulating his brother and wants her gone.
They end up in a forced proximity situation when Elsie applies for a job in the same office as Jack and shit hits the fan pretty quick.
There are way too many trust issue/miscommunication issues in this book for its own good and it made the plot drag on waaaaay too long.

Heart Bones
Colleen Hoover
Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🍼
Thoughts:
Not so much a smutty book as an emotional romance book. Hurt/comfort kind of shit.
Apparently the only Hoover book to not feature incest………..so yay.
Things were weird when we got into the dude's lore and his whole daddy issue thing. Bro threw his dads bones into the ocean. Touching. Really.
This is all the effort a Colleen Hoover book gets.

Scarred
Emily Mcintire
Overall Rating: ⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️🌶️
Thoughts:
Our main characters are Sarah Beatreaux and Tristan Faasa and I hate them already lmao. Sarah is on a mission to kill Tristan's brother, the king, and end the entire family line because her uncle told her to. Tristan is also out to kill his brother Michael who tortured and mutilated him during their childhood and left him with his namesake scar. Which yes, Tristan does still go by Scar.
This book tried so hard to be edgy and cool but it just ended up making the main guy look stupid. Also what kind of name is *Tristan* for a dark romance MC??
The main girl, Sarah, has the most personality out of any of these books so far so that's a win I guess, but she's still as deep as a wet tissue.
There's an attempted SA scene where a random drunk old man tries to pin Sarah to the wall and rip her dress off while he chokes her out. All while our guy Tristan watches "with fists balled in anger." Sarah does not get assaulted in the end but that was a hard part to read, and not because of the assault itself lol.
Honestly just trashy edge lord softcore.

Hooked
Emily McIntire
Overall Rating: ⭐️
Smutty Peppers:🌶️
Thoughts:
This series sucks.
No really don’t read this particular book if you have issues with abuse, gore, and/or violence.
Like don’t even read this review.
I’m not even going to bother remembering the character names from the books because this is the worst book out of the four.
So we have Hook and Wendy and yes they really went for the age gap too. We also have Smee but I cannot for the life of me remember if he was the mob boss or the cabin boy but I’m confused in both scenarios?
Wendy is the daughter of Peter (which makes no sense) who caused the death of Hook’s parents and was the reason Hook ended up in the all-round abusive arms of his uncle growing up. Now Hook is an adult and works as a mob guy? He’s the right hand man to the mob boss but he’s the one who really runs things. Apparently. He’s got a plan to kill Peter and take over his underground deals but he sees Wendy once and folds.
After they flirt things get more and more serious until they’re banging and things are great, that is until Hook stays out late banging Wendy on his boat or some shit and misses an important meeting with his boss. When he shows up his boss has been strung up and gutted and he IMMEDIATELY ASSUMES WENDY WAS IN ON IT. so he kidnaps her and tortures her for a while.
He keeps her in a cement basement chained up for a few days until he figures out it was the obviously evil waitress from the hideout that we met in chapter 1.
To cut an incredibly boring story down to size, Hook risks his life to save Wendy and kills his cabin boy turned bbeg and they live happily ever after.
This book really sucked.
For a dark romance the sex parts were awful vanilla? The parts where Hook tries to be deep and scary he ends up cuddling her? He calls a torture victim “good boy”? During the part when Wendy is his victim we get multiple page descriptions of how hot he is while he’s torturing her?

Twisted
Emily McIntire
Overall Rating: ⭐️
Smutty Peppers: 🌶️🌶️
Thoughts:
Starts off weird with a very much older man watching a young woman receiving mediocre oral from her boyfriend while stroking his own cock. This man is Julian Faraci, aka Jafar and the two lovers are Jasmin (or Yasmin Karam) and Aladdin who I genuinely didn’t bother remembering the book’s version of his name. Aladdin is a servant boy and Jasmin is the rich girl but the two are in love.
As soon as you meet Aladdin he’s promptly sent across the planet on a mission to find an antique artifact called the Lamp so that he can offer the artifact in exchange for Jasmin’s hand in marriage. Really it was because Jafar has eyes on Jasmine’s inheritance and wants to force her into a marriage contract.
Jasmin essentially continues to cheat on Aladdin throughout the rest of the book whilst developing Stockholm syndrome.
As all good forced proximity/fake marriage plots go, Jasmin ends up falling for the brute of a man over their time spent together with her father. These books are dark romance so Jafar is shown to deeply care for Jasmin’s father and genuinely want what’s best for the company, despite all of this Jasmin continues to perceive him as a villain.
A few steamy scenes play out that leave Jasmin wanting more than Jafar is willing to give and dear god I agree. Just give the girl your dick already.
In the final third of the book, where we expect to see a miscommunication arc thrown in haphazardly, we get a trip to the desert to meet back up with Aladdin (who I had completely forgotten about until now). The research team has been unsuccessful in their search for the Lamp and Aladdin is weirdly chill about it. Jasmin has some time alone with Aladdin to prove to herself that she is no longer in love with him but get manipulated by Aladdin and a turncoat goon.
One thing leads to another and Jasmin has the Lamp and Aladdin all to herself in a small hotel room in the middle of nowhere, when she hears Aladdin speaking to his mother on the phone and all the pieces fit into place. Aladdin has been the bad guy the whole time. He never loved her, he just wanted to marry her for her money so that he and his mother could live the lavish life. She finds a weapon and does what she needs to.
Jasmin ends up with Jafar like we knew she would and everything is fine. Except it’s not fine and this book sucked.
