The Campaign Ended... Or Did It?

That ending wasn’t true. And I think that is important. 

Near the end of episode 8, season 1, Mike and the rest of the Party finish up their campaign that they had started in the first episode. However, the ending felt… anticlimactic. 

Everything is predictable. 

“It’s not the thessalhydra.

“It’s the thessalhydra, I’m telling you.”

“The thessalhydra!”

Everything works out smoothly.

“Fireball him!”

“Fireball the son of a bitch.”

“Fourteen!”

“Direct hit! Will the Wise’s fireball hits the thessalhydra!”

…

“You present them [the severed heads] to King Tristan. He thanks you for your bravery and service.”

“Whoa whoa whoa that’s not it, is it?”

The story is unfinished.

“No, there’s a medal ceremony-”

“Oh, a medal ceremony? What are you talking about?”

“The campaign was way too short.”

“But it doesn’t make any sense!”

The story has plot holes, left unanswered, unsatisfying.

“What about the lost knight?

“And the proud princess?”

“And those weird flowers in the cave?”

“I don’t know, it’s-”

That’s it. No follow up to this campaign. 

The ending is not true, and this is just my theory, but I’m thinking… what if they finish it at the end? What if their true ending is revealed, and it’s what no one expected at all?

This is not a full nor coherent theory yet… I will return with more thoughts.

When you're near him, it's like the secret is peeking its head out, daring to reach for the light. When you catch yourself staring at him too long, or laughing too loud, or that sinking feeling you get when you hang out with your girlfriend and can't hang out with him (well, you could hang out with him. But everything around you, the people, the news, the world, they're telling you it's wrong).

The world is ending around you, yes. Yet you are closer than ever to figuring out what you really need to know.

the thing i love about good visual media is the SHOW. most people can write, but SHOWING SUBTEXT THROUGH ACTIONS is also important.

and you know what? telling can be hard too! even if a show WRITES well, and spells it out, sometimes it can feel like you are being spoon fed the information. but when characters have a natural progression with realistic dialogue- that’s good shit right there.

but what do we know about show vs tell?

and anyway, lucas did end up "telling it right" (while mike couldn't)

I made a Byler Iceberg, which included scenes from the series, phrases, words of the authors and actors proving the byler, and also several of the most interesting theories in my opinion. The higher the takes are located, the more obvious they are!

(I'm almost dying right now with a fever and I feel so-so, but hyperfixation is hyperfixation, so I hope the near-death state did not affect this iceberg in any way LOL)
