 from a professional anxious student
BEFORE
Prepare yourself. This may seem obvious, but it’s the best you can do. If you’re well prepared, you’ll be a lot less stressed (or not stressed at all!) and your inicial anxiety will dissipate as soon as you start answering questions!
“What is difficult today, may seem much easier tomorrow.” Be patient with yourself and don’t freak out if you don’t learn everything the second you start studying it. Don’t give up and you’ll eventually get the hang of it!
Get confident! With a negative mindselt, you’re digging your own grave.Who says you can’t do it? Go to that test thinking that you’re gonna ace it!
Go to bed early.
Review notes right before the test. This one helps me a lot because I know the information is, once again, fresh.
Make sure you have all the material you need. Make a list the night before so you’ll be sure you won’t forget anything.
The basics: pencil, erasers, pens, water bottle
Show up early.
DURING
First thing: write down the main points on your paper. Formulas? Key words? Write it down.
Calm down. Close your eyes and take deep breaths.
Air in for four seconds
hold it for seven seconds
let go for eight.
Do this at least five times.
Can’t do it? Next question.
“I can’t remember anything” Yes, you can, you just need to calm down. Anxiety is confusing your thoughts and making you think about the worst case scenario.
Start by quick and easy questions, this will make you more confident and also more secure.
Don’t panic if you think a question is too hard. Read the easy ones again, this may help you get the information you need.
Don’t leave blank answers!! You never know if your “bullshit answer” is not the right one. Been there, done that.
Focus on the test. I can’t stress this enough. Pay attention to what you’re doing right now. Don’t start making assumptions about your grade, don’t start thinking that you’re going to fail. Don’t even think about the last/next question.
If you have time, review your answers.
Spare at least twenty minutes to copy your answers to the answer sheet.
Hand in your test like you’re conquering a kingdom.
AFTER
Again, calm down. If you need to, repeat the same breathing exercise.
Discussing answers can be a russian roulette. If you get matching answers, it will be a relief, if you don’t, it’s only gonna make you more stressed. See what’s best for you.
If you think that you had a bad grade because you have several “wrong” answers, remember that your classmates don’t always have the right answers.  I have been in situations in which I thought I got  the wrong answer, but ended up being the only one who got it right.
REMINDERS
If you do fail, it’s not the end of the world. Focus on your weak spots and try harder next time. Failure is part of the road to success.
Drink water, eat well, rest. Treat your body well.
Don’t forget to write your name. Seriously.
Perspective is the key: focus on the bigger picture.
Okay so you’re SURE you’re going to fail your chem test, but you had great grades so far. What’s the big deal? Yeah, you have one bad grade, so that means it’s a lot easier to bring it up again.
If you need, get help. This may be from your parents, your school principal, your teacher, your psychologist, whatever. Sometimes, anxiety gets too strong and you may need the assistance of a professional.

Super helpful advice! All credit goes to the angel who wrote this☁️💓🏹
last minute exam advice
Public exams are coming up soon so I’ve decided to compile a list of advice of things to do before and during your exams to ensure you get the best possible grades. These are tricks that I use to make exams seem less daunting and I hope they’ll be beneficial to you too.
revision:
1) What to do if there’s a subject that’s fallen by the wayside (trust me, I’ve been here)
I would start by making a list of the topics which you don’t know, ranking them from the least known to the most known. At this stage, you don’t have a lot of time to make thorough notes. Instead, I recommend going through the chapter in your textbook or revision guide and making extremely concise notes with the main points of information. This can be in the any form such as a mind-map or any other preferable way, but the main thing is to make sure the knowledge is going into your brain.
Having done this, go on to do past paper questions which will highlight the keywords needed to gain full marks and will show you how the answer should be structured.
2) How to revise for a subject you intensely dislike
For me, this subject was GCSE Latin. Revising for this subject can be difficult especially if you don’t enjoy the content of the course, but the key message I repeatedly told myself was that I’ve been studying this subject which has made my life hell, and at this stage I’d want a good result to come out of it. For Latin, I used Quizlet, and whenever I had the chance, I would be on there doing vocab or revising chunks of Ovid’s Ars Amatoria and Catullus’ Love Poetry. It will require a lot of will power and it’s hard to think about the end result, but ultimately, it’s only a few more weeks of studying the subject and you might as well give it your all.
3) How to make sure you get the grades you need/want
My best piece of advice would be to aim for a grade above what you need. For example, if you want an B in Maths, aim to get an A / A*. This may sound strange, but if you work at a higher level, when factoring in exam stress and nerves, you’ll probably end up with the grade you originally wanted or higher. Of course, this also means working efficiently and effectively on the topics you don’t know, but I used this technique for my GCSEs and it really paid off.
exam:
1) Leading up to the exam
Some of the worse moments before your exam can be the night before, as you lie in bed thinking about what’s to come, but also waiting outside of the exam hall. My suggestion for the night before, is to go through any concise notes you have made up until an hour before you go to sleep. In the final hour before you sleep, do something to calm you down whether it is drinking some herbal tea and reading a book or listening to a chilled playlist, but this will help you to enter a more tranquil and calm state to make sure you have a good night’s rest before the exam.
When waiting outside the exam hall, find friends who don’t make you stressed and talk about something other than the exam (this will be quite hard). This is because the last thing you want is for someone to bring up an exam topic which you didn’t revise and to leave you absolutely panicked at the last moment.
2) During the exam
The most cliche advice is to take deep breaths, but honestly there’s a reason this is repeatedly said. Taking deeper breaths slows down your heart rate and will allow you to concentrate better. Next, is to imagine the exam as a past paper or class test rather than a public exam. This can be hard, but remind yourself that you’ve revised the information and you know the content well.
Spend a minute dividing up your time according to the sections of the paper. Although this may seem like a waste of a minute at first, it’ll ensure that you don’t spend too long on one section and that you finish with time to spare.
If you come across a question you don’t know, leave it until the end, or make an educated guess. It’s better than leaving the question blank.
3) After the exam
A lot of people say to avoid discussing the paper after the exam. This is a good idea, but inevitably you’re bound to discuss a few questions with friends. However, don’t go into too much analysis of all your answers, because it’ll make the wait until results day intolerable knowing that your friend got a different answer to you for one question (this also includes not looking at the unofficial mark schemes posted to ‘the student room’).
Instead, start thinking about preparation for you next exam, as you don’t want your previous exams to take a toll on your upcoming ones.

Your eyes!
They're adorned with planets
Swirling, glittering within them.
That golden smear
Glowing splash
Is Venus. Hello, Venus.
I, the observer,
And you
The art.
To me, your eyes resemble many things.
Precious jewels are nothing compared to your eyes
Because your eyes?
Put the whole solar system to shame
The way they light up
When ignited by your passions.
Look at me.
Believe my words.
Because I don't want anything more
Than to swim among Mars and Jupiter
In your beautiful eyes.

[ Finally back on Tumblr, so I thought I’d continue with this series! I hope you all are having a wonderful start to 2019! ]

okay, so, it is very very important to gather everything you need before you start taking your notes - I’m talking pens, books, post-its, everything! by having everything in one place, it means you can remained focused and organised and your notes don’t have any missing gaps.
personally, I like have lots of different nice, ‘aesthetic’ pens to choose from, but that is a personally choice! as a visual learner, I work best with lots of colours, so I tend to have at least 2 different highlighters with pens to match. on my studygram, I’m always being asked what pens I used, so here’s a list of my personal favourites:
☁️ zebra mildliners  ☁️ muji 05 coloured gel pens ☁️ pilot juice 05 gel pens ☁️ tombow pastel brush pens ☁️ staedler fineliners
you can buy all of these on amazon, and on smaller retailers like the kawaiipenshop.com and muji’s official website!
another key thing to have with you is your actual subject material - that might be class notes, your revision guide or an information sheet. read through this before taking notes, and highlight/underline all the key parts so you know to include them. NEVER copy out information!!!! I can’t stress enough how important it is to read, re-word then write the information, as it helps you personally understand what you’re writing down.

I’ll be showing an example of my own notes for this section, to give an example. It is always useful to include the following:
🌖 definitions of key words 🌖 key facts and information 🌖 any diagrams you may want to include or need to include
these are 3 key things your notes should have in order to make them a genuine, useful resource to you. I always bullet point my notes, to make them simple and concise. having additional diagrams REALLY helps me, as it allows me to visualise the information clearly and mentally understand what it is I’m learning. for example, I always include diagrams and definitions in content heavy subjects like biology and geography.

I’ll do another post about mind maps, as these are very much a note taking style of preference that I really like! Hope this helps y’all!

💡 part one - organisation
hello! i’m a year 11 student currently studying for my mock exams in November. I run a studygram (@/studiousgemini) and have gained many other year 11 followers recently. I rarely post on here, so I’ve decided to make a help guide for all my other year 11s prepping for exams! Please note, these are my methods and they might not work for everybody but I hope it helps in some way! x
Tumblr media
where to start!💌
first things first, organisation. the key to success! establishing a regular routine is the first step, as this ensures you’re doing regular revision and you’re regularly re-capping information. personally, i make a study schedule and do certain subjects a day, but make sure it’s flexible - this way you can prioritise and feel less stressed if things come up. a great way to mange all of this is with a bujo! i’ve been bujo-ing for around 2 years and I really can’t do anything without mine. plus, the spreads allow to to de-stress and stay creative! so to summarise;
set yourself a regular study schedule
plan plan plan!
invest in a bujo
prioritise your weakest subjects
buy supplies! (note books per subject, pens, highlighters and post-its are my must haves)
