Connie Booth Vs. Barbara Billingsley
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Connie Booth - (Fawlty Towers, Monty Python's Flying Circus) - British TV was absolutely blessed when Connie Booth moved from the US to Great Britain and enriched every show and movie she was in with her talent and absolute BEAUTY! She looks like a real life princess!
Barbara Billingsley - (Leave it to Beaver) - Look, is June Cleaver the ultimate example of the unrealistic expectations and repressive cult of domesticity that the media forced on women in post-war, pre-second wave feminism America? Yes. Does Barbara Billingsley look insanely hot mopping the floor in high-heels and a pearl necklace? Also, yes. (Sorry Betty Friedan, she just does.) To her credit, she knew it was an absurd fantasy, she was a divorced (and widowed) working mom when she landed the role of the quintessential 50s housewife. In her later years she often spoofed her image, most famously as the Jive-talking lady in Airplane! (When they revived the series in the 1980s, June became a respected member of the city council and later pursued a college degree.)

Hello! I thought I'd share a little fanart about a scene that I've thinking of incorporating into the fanfic (that I'm hoping you could kindly help write for me as I'm kinda sure that I'll just fuck up the execution of the fanfic imo) about the depressing and tragic AU of John and Michael being killed on the "Friday Night, Saturday Morning" interview debate by a religious extremist who hated LoB, and in which the Pythons are dealing with the grief of losing their closest friends in an act of senseless violence and cope with the grief (+survivors guilt) in their own ways. This fanart centres around Graham, who tries to come to terms with the sudden passing of John, but has a near nervous breakdown during the process.

I would definitely want to know your thoughts on it! Thank you!
Honestly? I'm obsessed with your drawing style!
But also the drawing itself is amazing: His posture! And his eyes! In them you can see so much pain and desperation and disbelief and the feeling of not knowing what to do now... Heartbreaking to look at!

Hello, I have something kinda.....weird to say the least, if you don't mind reading my thoughts that is?
Basically, a few months ago, I had a strange and surreal dream/nightmare kind of thing. It was about Monty Python. But it was a depressing and tragic alternative universe. A universe where John Cleese and Michael Palin both got assassinated/killed on the day of the "Friday Night, Saturday Morning" Life of Brian debate interview, where a religious extremist who really hated the film Life of Brian with a burning passion took out both John and Michael out of spite. Like, utter spite, ya'know?
It was....horrible to think about..yet it was an interesting experience to think about.
I'm okay now, I'm aware it was JUST only a bad recurring dream. But, it just shivers me to the core to think about what would've happened on that day in that alternative universe. What would the world look like? What the Pythons think about the sudden passing of John and Michael? Just what would've happened on that day......
Wow... That's sounds terrible actually & definitely like a dream I wouldn't want to dream myself...
It really is an extremely chilling thought and like you said, interesting in a horrible way. Don't even know what to say - the fear that must cause to the other Pythons, the sheer tragedy of taking someone's life for simply making a funny little movie, all the beautiful things we would have never gotten (like movies, books, documentaries...) etc. Glad it never happened in reality!
--Thank you for sharing your dream & thoughts with me, though!--

“What I love most about Life of Brian was the fact we were shooting in Tunisia. And when you woke up in the morning it was warm and the sun was out. And I remember the delight of going out and sitting on the balcony and having your orange juice and then going down and feeling good… And Terry J was so well-prepared, we just walked on set, there wasn’t any of the usual anxiety. It all happened so flowingly, and from then on I had the best time I think I’ve ever had.” -John Cleese

Terry Jones-directed, and highly controversial satire, Monty Python’s Life of Brian – about an average-schlub-turned-reluctant-messiah, set in biblical times – fulfilled the prophecy in theaters on August 17, 1979.
