Howdy, Violet Banquet attendees and audiences! As was recently announced in the server, the Violets have been hard at work over the last few months going over the event– reviewing the lore introduced at the Beta Banquet, expanding upon the lore for next year, proposing mini-events between the annual namesake, etc.

As of now, a lot of progress has already been made, so please enjoy these overviews of the canon lore for The Violet Banquet:

TVB the character

An entity whose form is that of a shapeshifting estate. While they can create and control any structure or aspect of themself, they cannot create life.

They can also manifest as various avatars that can act as a sort of hivemind to tend to itself or interact with others. They prefer taking an Asgore-like form.

They/it pronouns, plus those of whichever avatar they may manifest as (+he/him as an Asgore, etc.)

They wish to enjoy good company by ensuring that their guests have a safe, fun time during their stay.

While they are a kind, festive, eager-to-please host to those who visit, they are also easily flustered, and may break down or shut down if things don't go according to plan.

TVB the setting

The estate is perpetually cast in nightfall, accomodating monsters that are used to dark undergrounds.

The sky is illuminated by constellations that are said to make up maps of multiverses. Twin pole stars, supposedly representing the original Undertale and Deltarune, remain fixed in the sky, even as the others shift.

Due to the nature of TVB, one's perceptions of the estate can slightly alter the reality of it.

TVB the story

TVB, after spending much of their existence alone, one day decided that they can perhaps find company by hosting a large event-- people like parties after all, don't they? So, they took on Asgore's form, and set off across the multiverses to send out invitations and hire staff.

The Beta (February 2025) was their first attempt at hosting... and that didn't go as smoothly as they would've hoped. As it turns out, murder and vandalism are a bit of a turn-off...

In their anxiety about being remembered as a bad host, they involuntarily obscured the memories of attendees as they left, leaving mostly happy memories intact. However, they took the whole event as a learning experience. Next year, they'll do better.

Meta notes for attending roleplayers

Perception affecting reality: The meta reason was to accomodate guest perceptions and any misunderstandings their players may have had about the layout.

Memory haze: The meta reason was that the Beta's canon needed to be adjusted. However, we didn't want to decanonize any character development or relationships in the process without consent, so the powers of TVB allowed players to pick and choose what they wished to keep. That said, players may situationally allow returning guests from the Beta Banquet a sense of déjà vu or vague dread if they so choose.

Self-inserts & canon-compliance: Due to their execution conflicting with popular consensus on UTMV canon, any interactions at the Beta Banquet with creators, narrators or players who attended in character as themselves are no longer considered canon. Any self-inserts must still be characters with identities distinct from the user they represent, such as in Underplayer by 鱼腩.

The Violet Banquet presents itself as a site for hosting comfort and merriment, but it seems not much else is known about it. Who knows what may be hidden away to maintain that inviting atmosphere...

What does UTMV Stand for?

UnderTale MultiVerse!

UTMV refers to a range of Undertale/Deltarune (UTDR) fanworks. Not every utdr fanwork counts as utmv, such as if it's intended as an interpretation of canon– what makes them utmv specifically is if a work deliberately takes place in alternate versions of canon, such as alt. timelines (ex: Aftertale by @loverofpiggies), alt. universes (ex: Underfell by @underfell), outcodes (Inktale by @comyet) or crossovers between them (ex: Underverse by @jakei95).

Of course, sometimes it's more ambiguous whether a fanwork counts as an au or not. Because it's not always clear what could be canon-divergent, it just depends sometimes whether the creators associate their work with the utdr multiverse collective.

For example: on one hand, @zarla-s has called Handplates an au because, while supplemented by theories about canon, she likes including personal takes too. On the other, @/undertalethingems values faithfulness to canon and therefore prefers that Unexpected Guests not be counted as utmv.

Granted, utmv isn't the first fandom-in-a-fandom. Other fandoms have also had popular derivatives, such as Project: Eden's Garden, Vast Error and Voyakiloids. Some crossover multiverses are even their own franchises, like Kingdom Hearts and Spiderverse.

In this case, utmv's also a group collaboration within the fandom. Etiquette and permissions still apply, but the overarching lore is built and sustained by the community. Which means, there's always some flexibility, but there's also details that are widely agreed upon or widely debated. There's a list of alternates everyone knows, like the above and more, and some of them have been the foundations of its worldbuilding, such as CORE!Frisk by @dokudoki.

If you don't know where to begin, watching Underverse on Youtube is a good way to get introduced. Some characterizations may be unique to @xtaleunderverse's own canon, but every alternate featured is credited so you can view creators' posts to learn more about them or check for permissions regarding their usage. (You can also go to the pinned post on @utmvarchive, run by me, to look up alternates. This is recommended for aus credited to dead accounts, as utmvarchive was made in an effort to protect them from becoming lost media.)

My first post on TVB ...🧍

Hi there, I'm verdantViridity. You might know me as utmvarchive. I just wanted to say real quick that the inbox should currently be open to anons, but! ☝️ I can also take dms at my personal account @humunanunga; and if you join the server, I can represent anyone on Discord who wishes to remain anonymous to the other mods.

Just thought I'd mention that while I was thinking about it. I've done it before when someone was worried about getting caught up in discourse for sending in the wrong feedback, or asking a question the wrong way.

I'm also one of the elders in the team. The server is sfw to keep it open to ages 13-and-up, so content guidelines will favor accommodating younger members' boundaries. If you need clarification or notice anything inappropriate in chat, I'm one of the mods you can talk to.

That should be everything for now. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm very happy with the work we've been doing to make this server better, and I'm very thankful to be in this mod team.

Hello everyone! Mod Lamb here with some updates on the event, server, and blog!

Event updates:

Since the last event was a beta run, the organizers have been workshopping how we'll run the next event, as well as revising lore. As of right now, the beta event is being considered dubiously canon!

Server updates:

The server rules and content guidelines have been simplified and updated for clarification!

Our layout has seen some edits!

Blog updates:

We have a new pinned post, with links to pages for mobile users!

New pages have been added and are being updated! The new pages are credits, tags, FAQ, server rules, and content guidelines!

Specific mods are being assigned to upkeep and regularly check the blog, so there should be more activity!

Through the month of may, members can submit UTMV redraws of memes and reaction images in the "server contest submissions" channel! At the end of the month, the top voted submissions will be announced, and some drawings may even be nominated to become server emojis! Feel free to join in!
