One of the best tips for writing descriptions of pain is actually a snippet I remember from a story where a character is given a host of colored pencils and asked to draw an egg.

The character says that there’s no white pencil.  But you don’t need a white pencil to draw a white egg.  We already know the egg is white.  What we need to draw is the luminance of the yellow lamp and the reflection of the blue cloth and the shadows and the shading.

We know a broken bone hurts.  We know a knife wound hurts.  We know grief hurts.  Show us what else it does.

You don’t need to describe the character in pain.  You need to describe how the pain affects the character - how they’re unable to move, how they’re sweating, how they’re cold, how their muscles ache and their fingers tremble and their eyes prickle.

Draw around the egg.  Write around the pain.  And we will all be able to see the finished product.

ik it's not ur fav but even tho i love solangelo i'm quaking at the potential power of valangelo... please tell me how u would have plotted out them getting together if u had written hoo and not ricky

like honestly...... it would’ve been so good. like it could’ve been what solangelo wanted to be but amplified. nico entering the series, all grim and broody. he meets leo, the most annoying boy on the planet. like this kid will not shut the fuck up. and nico just KNOWS that even leo is annoyed with himself and in his head he’s like “dude just. shut up. another dumbass joke will not make this better. shut up bro” and leo goes “ahahaha so like you summon skeletons lol like boners?? hahaha IHateMyselfThisIsWhyNoOneLikesMe” 

and then slowly...... slowly........ they start to work together. and see each other in stressful situations. and nico realizes that when leo isn’t hyperaware of how other people see him he’s actually kind of..... bearable. actually scratch that MORE than bearable! like this guy is so competent!! and his little quips in the middle of ridiculously stressful situations are actually funny and not stupid like normal... and his hair is kind of cute when it flops over in his face when he’s concentrating on his projects.......

and then after leo’s more at ease with himself and less cringy he hears nico stifle ONE small laugh and immediately goes I Take Back Everything I Thought Before I Would Light A Thousand Fires For You. 

and they’d just like unknowingly gravitate towards each other and start actually Talking about everything from Mcdonalds to how they were both orphans with weird mythical guardians that fucked them up and they get a bunch of inside jokes and then one day leo would just go “hey nico what’s that on your hand?” and nico would like stretch open his hand to see. and leo would just slip his fingers right in between and go “it’s my hand.” and that would be that. matching hawaiian shirt boyfriends.

Summary: An AU where Alice does not go back to Payton, Astrid keeps her baby, and Alice and Astrid decide to try the whole girlfriends-and-mothers thing. Predictable romance and chaos ensues.

Author’s Note: While Astrid’s speech about how not wanting kids doesn’t make her any less of a woman was one of the best parts of The Politician season 2, I can’t stop thinking about how amazing it would be to see Astrid and Alice pregnant at the same time. And so, this fic was born (pun intended).
