Rhiannon listened on, fortunate that they didn't have to deal with any pests. "That's good to know." while it also made her realize that she may need to keep her room clean as well. Shouldn't be a problem, because the last thing she wanted to leave behind was a mess in any type of way -- the mess that could lead anyone back to her. You know, if she had to make a run for it;
"I have not, I think after my dad got sick, I did let things just sort of collect. I meant, I was more of a hoarder, but he and I did a good job at keeping the place clean." that and if she didn't mention using her basement where she trapped her high school bully, everything was just peachy.
"--So, does this mean I get the place then?" she asked while looking at the two. She hadn't been kicked out just yet, so it seemed positive.
"Pest control isn't a problem. There's a cat to deal with rodents, and other than the first couple of weeks in spring when ants try to make their way in, we're pretty much bugs. We keep things clean, and we don't have problems," Martin explained with a little bit of pride. He was a stickler for making sure that there weren't any reasons for outside people to go poking around in his apartment, and he intended to keep it that way if at all possible.
"Have you had any issues with pests in your old place?"

It was good to note that both of them weren't the nosy types, which is something she needed. His statement however, caused an awkward tension within her, but she had to play it off -- and being the awkward yet boring office girl as she was, she just gave a small laugh. "Well, I assure you the only thing i've murdered are spiders." she added on as a way to play along. She truly hated spiders, which only brought her to the next question she had.
"--Oh, speaking of which, how's the pest control here? Roaches, spiders, rats - things of that nature - should I be worried about them?" she asked as she looked between the two. From the way this conversation was flowing, it seemed as if she had managed to get the place. However, she didn't want to get too ahead of herself.
Martin largely allowed Kelly to handle the interview and spent his time watching Rhiannon's reactions. She wasn't easy to read, but there was nothing wrong with her either. She was putting out the image of a model potential roommate, and as far as Martin could tell she meant most of it.
He did, however, snap back into participating just in time to hear her own follow up question.
"To be honest, I just tend to keep to myself, so I'm not exactly worried as long as we find a roommate who respects personal boundaries and isn't a serial killer," Martin laughed, fully aware of the irony of him saying that, but what was life without an inside joke or two?

@thechosengryffindor chose Nightingale [x]
Hermione's silent night had ended rather abrubtly when she heard the loud knock at her door. She'd place her cup of hot chocolate on the table, and the book she had been reading was carefully placed back into the bookshelf with a simple spell. With her wand at her side, Hermione walked to her door and opened it to find the battered and bruised Boy -- well in this case, Man who lived. "Harry!" Her pitch was raised in panic as she helped him inside, without bothering to shut the door behind her just yet.
"What happened? are you alright?" she asked as she wrapped an arm around his waist in order to guide him back to the warmth of her living room. Trouble always seemed to find him, if their school years weren't evidence of that, then Hermione wasn't sure how else to explain it. Yet whatever happened now scared her. Whatever this was -- she wasn't expecting it.
"Sit, i'm getting the first aid kit." she stated while helping him onto her couch. With her wand still at her side, Hermione was back at her door first, peeking out both ways to see if there had been any followers, or any suspicious activitys. With a protection charm placed at her door, Hermione shut her door and locked it right before walking into her bathroom to grab the supplies she needed.

𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐋.
basically i got thinking abt like. you know when you watch a movie, or read a book, and characters go into a room or they do a particular thing together, and you just KNOW it’s building up to something, and it could be literally anything, from a kiss to a murder, but SOMETHING will DEFINITELY happen??? yeah. this is a love-letter to those glorious scenes! i hope you all enjoy!
[  ROAD  TRIP  ]:     the sender and receiver embark on a road trip together; the purpose could be anything at all, but what’s important is that the journey lasts at least several hours. additionally, the sender and receiver are the only people in the car!
[  BARED  SOULS  ]:     the sender and receiver spontaneously go skinny dipping together in the middle of the night while visiting an isolated lake. go wild! maybe the sender finds the receiver already skinny dipping, maybe it’s the other way round, who knows! you do! maybe.
[  NIGHT-TIME  STROLLS  ]:    the sender decides to walk the receiver home from an event late one night. and it’s very late; so late that they might as well be the only people left in the world. it’s just them and the quiet night sky, and conversations of all kinds are easy to come by.
[  TOP OF THE WORLD  ]:     one of the muses finds the other on the roof-top in the middle of the night. neither of them want to sleep, and so they sit together for the remainder of the night until the sun comes up, content to sit and talk and exist with each other.
[  STEPPING  BACK  ]:      while they’re both attending a particularly lively and crowded party, both muses, craving a moment of peace and fresh air, accidentally go to the same balcony. unwilling to leave, they sit together, and begin to talk as the party spins on behind their backs.
[  NO  VACANCIES  ]:     both characters are in a position where they must share a hotel room together; not so bad, until they realize the only room left has one bed and no sofa in it. paired with a carpet that not even a worst enemy would be subjected to, the two must share the bed.
[  WRONG  ROOM  ]:     after a long day, and a hotel with many vacancies, the two muses part ways to go to bed. only, one of them ends up waking in the middle of the night, and shows up at the other’s doorstep, knocking and asking to come in, for reasons unknown to the other muse.
[  NIGHT-INGALE  ]:     after being badly beaten, one muse shows up on the other muse’s doorstep, pleading for help. the other obliges, brings them in and gently cleans their wounds, bandaging them up, helping them as much as they can while quiet confessions and gentle pleas happen. basically, angst and emotion and hurt and comfort, and it’s DELICIOUS–
[  VISITING  HOURS  ]:     upon waking in a hospital bed, one of the muses turns their head, and finds the other sleeping in an uncomfortable chair by their bedside.

I’m pretty sure Suzanne Collins has a Lucy Gray in her life and it’s someone that’s haunting her.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. **SPOILERS AHEAD**
My emotions are everywhere. I have never had such a favorite character until this very moment. I mean don't get me wrong, I love, love, love our girl Katniss. But Haymitch -- man oh man oh mannnnnn
The boy who was born out of love, born TO love, forced to hate everyone just to protect them. Can you imagine how lonely that life had been for him? Drusilla knew so well hence her "I hope you win" speech to Maysilee.
from "I'm not a drinker" to drinking sleep juice so that he could fall asleep only to feed his love gum drops. KILL ME.
He stepped in-between the peacemakers and Lenore to save her and in return got reaped, only to once again 24 years later step between the peacemaker and Katniss and save her knowing damn well he was being watched. KILL ME NOWWW.
You see the two types of love very very clearly. I know most of us believe that Katniss is the face of this series - and she very much is because she's the Mockingjay, but I personally feel like it's Haymitch. His intentions when he was "picked" for the games weren't to survive. He kept telling himself he'll probably die, but as long as it ended the games he was fine with it. His need to shut it down was stronger, which is why he told Wellie he had to separate from the other allies. "Drown the brain." His desire to break the arena, all of it. He was the original face of revolution - just.... not as lucky (as mentioned in that Epilogue that also killed me.)
But going back to my *love* statement a few sentences back. The first love we see/read from Snow's perspective- the narcissist, toxic love. The obsession that everyone claims is 'love' and in some people's eyes it might be if you're the type that romanticizes narcissistic behavior as love. I get it, at one point I thought it was hot too. To have someone so obsessed with just me.. I absolutely get it. But it was the dangerous love that ended up destroying him and we saw that.
Then you have that pure love. The love you will always cherish and stay strong for. It was gentle in their tragic reality. It was fiercely loyal. It was hopeful - and as we all know that infamous line "She condemned me to life." he stayed loyal to her. He kept that promise to her. They were the opposite of what Lucy Gray and Snow were.
--We can agree that for both Snow and Haymitch, they were young -- but their emotions ran DEEP. We all saw it (If we hadn't read it.) The song "Wait for it" by Hamilton is all Haymitch Abernathy core. Please listen to it if you have not. Here I'll link you.
Wait for It- Hamilton. (<-- click)
Now, on a very random note, while I'm still trying to recover. Can we also applaud at what a genius Suzanne is with her metaphors here?
I'll tell you why.
When the cruelest ends are reserved for the youngest of souls -- young children; When the oppressed are stolen, returned hollowed—haunted—never whole again. When the narrative is spun, and the truth is heavily distorted to shield the powerful.. Sound familiar?
"I want to scream the truth... but all I do is sit in silence." --Haymitch Abernathy, SotR.
Oh how the strongest of all voices are silencing because of the punishments we will have to face. Sound familiar?
Please, we aren't talking about this enough. But tell me you see it too.

This book should come with a big, giant
*** WARNING LABEL ***
that simply says your heart will absolutely shatter and all the feelings you thought you possessed and knowledge you thought you knew-- nope, it's actually a thousand times worse and harder and WHY?!
Because like, knowing what you think you know, from Catching Fire & Mockingjay and just... Okay. Sure. You've pieced some things together about Haymitch.
Still, even with that already known, Collins was still able to twist the knife a thousand times deeper, like "oh, you thought it hurt before? Just wait for this!"
I mean, I'd been DEEEEEP in my Hunger Games hyper-focus for the last several weeks & months, leading up to this book. There was a lot of details from the books that I'd forgotten (I mean, I read them over a decade ago!) so I definitely wanted a fresh look at Haymitch in my head when I started this one.
Can I just say that, once again, Suzanne Collins is utter perfection when it comes to portraying societal commentary in this way? When it comes to saying what needs to be said without it ever sounding like it's BEING said, you know? But it's there. It's right there. And the characters are SO UTTERLY REAL and you connect with them.
And it's no wonder he had the fears/thoughts/worries towards Katniss (and all that had transpired right at the end of hers & Peeta's 74th Hunger Games victory) after finding out exactly all that he'd gone through.
Like, we had only gotten that little look. A little glimpse, because the trilogy had always been in Katniss's POV.
Hell it's like, if I didn't love Haymitch before (which, let's be honest, I already did), this book would have made me love him completely.
(And can we talk about how wonderful the other characters were?! Like, not only the ones we "knew" -- Mags, Wiress, Beetee, etc. -- but also the ones that were with Haymitch in the Games -- Maysilee, Louella, Ampert... and of course, Lenore Dove & Haymitch's family! I mean ouch!!!! )
Anyway, yes, my heart was in utter pieces last night when I finished.

"I first saw the girl at the Hob when she was just a baby. Burdock was so proud of her, he toted her around everywhere. After he died in that mine explosion, she started coming alone, trading the odd squirrel or rabbit. Tough and smart, her hair in two braids then, reminding me for all the world of Louella McCoy, my sweetheart of old. And after she volunteered for the Games, that nickname couldn’t help but slip out." - Haymitch Abernathy, Sunrise on the Reaping.

--I just finished reading Sunrise on the Reaping -- and all I have to say is how dare you, Suzanne ! Obsessed with the book right now.
I'd love to write out a younger Haymitch Abernathy using Damian Hardung as his FC or even present day Haymitch with our good ol' Woody as his FC if anyone is interested as well.

Rhiannon turned to look back at him and smiled, "--Is this neighborhood safe then?" she asked. After all they had been residing here for a year and a half, it was good to know the people around here wouldn't be so horrible. Rhiannon turned to look at Kelly then back at Martin - and a part of her wanted to ask whether they were a couple or just strictly roommates. Only since the last thing Rhiannon wanted was to be a thrid wheel for the both of them.
Martin's question pulled her from her thoughts just then as she thought about her response. She couldn't really admit that she was running away now could she? Or how she needed to escape and just remain on her own until the time was right to move on.
"I suppose i'm looking for any place that's willing to take me. My father recently died, and my sister decided to sell our house. I'm just a bit desperate to find a roof over my head and someplace that's affordable. Anything else, I don't really care for." she admitted which wasn't a complete lie. She just hid the fact that she may have gone on a killing spree after losing her father, and that her sister did sell the house without her permission and she just truly needed a place to lay low.
"Anything particular you two are looking for in a roommate?" she asked in return.
"About a year and a half now, I think," Martin mused aloud. He took the moment to try to sum up the girl in front of him. She was young, polite, and seemingly on the quiet side. All of those things boded well for him. He shook her offered hand with some real
The main thing, however, was figuring out whether she was the nosy type. Someone could be as quiet as they wanted, but if they asked too many questions, he would still either have to move or murder, and he didn't care much for the chances of that.
"Anything in particular you're looking for in a new place?"
