This is Tinkerbell, my old, sweet chihuahua. She has been with my mother and me for nearly ten years.

Today, the vet diagnosed her with interstitial dyspnea, and she will die if the medicine doesn’t work; her lungs are so terrible, she’s surviving on only one lung.

I started a GoFundMe page last week because of our terrible living situation: our camping trailer home is infested with mold and leaks (recently, we tarped the entire roof.) We need to get Tinkerbell out of this terrible atmosphere to help her live.

The mold and moisture is incredibly harmful to US, as well; our doctors have said continuing to live in this air could lead to the development of cancer.

Please note, once we move into a new home, we will be able to provide for ourselves again. We have jobs in daycare lined up, which we cannot take unless we live in a safe, healthy home. We only need the push to afford a move and all the down payments that come with it.

We’ve lived in a 200-square-foot travel trailer for three years. Every inch of the roof leaks, windows, and wall corners and seams leak; we’ve lost half of our storage space due to leaks. The trailer is infested with mold; we clean, but colonies live in the ceiling and walls out of our reach. Electrical sockets and ceiling lights have leaked, and we believe our electrical converter is starting to die. We have had mice. Our doctors firmly advise us to leave.

This is something I can only say here: we live on the same property as my grandparents, and I cannot let my future be here. I am a lesbian, and my grandparents are extreme homophobes. (The town I live in now, as a whole, is incredibly old-fashioned.) My grandfather, in particular, embodies every stereotype of the “crazed extremist republican” who kisses the ground Trump walks on, and he constantly challenges us to political fights.

I have started this campaign, in the hopes that those who read this will be able to help. Any funds we receive will help us move into a safer, healthier environment. We have a plan for the future that will allow us to provide for ourselves once we have moved; we just need the push to get there. Even spreading the word will help, and we’ll be eternally grateful for any help we receive. Thank you all.
