Betches U Up? Toronto Show Review

Hello hello,

Welcome back to Thoughts on Thots and all my opinions on pop culture moments I care about. I took this domain to WordPress for a quick minute and posted a bunch there, but didn’t want to pay for hosting anymore.... soo if anyone knows how to get lost blog posts from WordPress, hit me up!

Anyways, on August 17th I saw J&J hit up the Queen Elizabeth Theater in Toronto for their U Up podcast tour. I'm not sure whether or not I should get into the frantic details that happened before the show, like thinking we were an hour later just to get there right before the show started with enough time to grab drinks #blessed.

They started the show off with a discussion and then went into revamping somebody's Tinder page. After that they did a round of red flag or deal breakers, followed by an email ask and some submitted audience questions.

I LOL'd for reals at this show. They are literally hilarious together. I'm sorry that I can't get too into this review because it happened like 3 weeks ago and I don't remember that much. BUT I do remember the highlight of the evening. They read a submitted audience questions that went something like this:

"I told my boyfriend of 10 months that I loved him but he just said thank you. I should also mention that my boyfriend is my friends EX-FIANCE"!!!!!!

These submissions only had a name and whoever asked the question could come forward if they wanted to answer their questions but surprise surprise no one came forth with their name for this one. EXCEPT this one girl Rachel who put her hand up. When Jared asked if it was hers she said yes, then proceed to walk towards the stage, and when he asked her again if she submitted the question she goes "no, but I have a really funny story". EL OH EL.

She then proceeds to go on stage uninvited, and Jared starts to give her a hard time. She eventually wants to leave the stage but he's like "no you made this about you, you have to tell your story now" so she does and it's not funny, obviously. Then she walks to exit the stage at the side instead of the front and it's a big ordeal.

Anyways, if you can see Jared Fried live I recommend. He's hilarious. But we all know Rachel was the real star of the night. ⭐

ARIANA “VOGUE” GRANDE

I have been a HUGE fan of Ariana Grande since she released her debut single The Way, like a million years ago. And just yesterday she was announced as British Vogue’s cover girl for July! WHIRL GIRL!

I am SO thrilled!!! She looks so beautiful and perfect and precious and natural and fierce. She is literally that snapchat filter IRL (you know, the one with the freckles and yellow flower).

I am so so so so proud of this little jelly bean. She has come such a long way from 5 years ago. She has grown and changed and suffered and is starting to become the powerhouse artist I always knew she could be.

I literally feel like crying looking at these pictures. She has been through and done so much this past year. Ariana deserves to (and will) dominate the whole world. Why can’t I be her friend????

MET GALA

OMG so the Met Gala happened last night and unless you’ve been living under a rock or something and have no idea what the Met Gala is, it’s basically a big celebration of fashion at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC, hosted by Anna Wintour and Vogue, and every year there’s a different theme. This year’s theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. And as you expect, people came to SERVE! US! LOOKS!

This post is dedicated to all of my favourite looks of the night, in no particular order (except the first one), so gather ‘round my huntys, and without further ado, here are my uneducated fashion opinions.

Gigi Hadid

Now I know what you’re thinking, “how can this extremely problematic Hadid sister be my favourite look of the night when Riri was there?”. WELL lemme tell you, not only did she come on theme, but her dress was so damn original. Anybody could’ve done the cross, or rosary, or throw a halo on, but Gigi came as a damn stained glass window! This dress is so stunning I can’t even comprehend it’s beauty. I love the one shoulder/off the shoulder thing it’s got going on there, as well as how the stained glass feature goes down her leg. This is probably the most beautiful dress I have ever seen and don’t think I am even worth being in it’s presence (as if that would ever happen), like it feels wrong to even stare at it. 

Rihanna

 RIHANNA CAME AS THE DAMN POPE. SHE IS THE POPE OF THE MET GALA. I don’t think I have ever seen anything more iconic than that. She knows that she is the queen of the Met Gala, and of course, had to come as the queen of all the christians as well. This ensemble is literally flawless, it is who she is as a person. Look at all of the embellishments , all the beads, on the coat, dress, skirt, HAT!! Rihanna knows how to work any red carpet, but this particular one is her bitch.

Blake Lively

Now, Blake Lively is no stranger to the Met Gala either. She has been known as the second in command to Queen Riri (idk if I just made that up or not). If we know anything about Ms. Lively though, it’s that she doesn’t come to play, she comes to slay. Word is it took Versace designers OVER 600 hours to put together the bodice alone and it’s easy af to understand why. Look at all of the damn beads!! This dress is a literal work of art and I’m sure some day it’ll be put on display is some fancy dress museum. I absolutely love the two shear panels that show off Blake’s legs. She looks like the most beautiful tapestry of all time. Versace, you have out down yourself. 

Mindy Kaling

Next up, I want to talk about my dear, sweet, Mindy Kaling. BUT SHE AIN’T SWEET. This look makes me want to scream out “Elizabeth, you better run girl, your reign is over! Mindy Kaling is snatching that throne from you!”. I love how regal and classic Mindy looks, but of course, the POP is that huge crown on her head. Not a tiny tiara, Mindy is a queen and she knows it. This fierce woman is wearing the fiercest crown I have ever laid my eyes on. I also am living for how the back of this dress looks like a damn cape, and those contrasting gloves. UGH. I am in love with Mindy Kaling and don’t care who knows it.

Jared Leto

Now ladies and gents, THIS is how you show up to the Met Gala, on theme, as a man. I’m not sure if he’s trying to channel his inner JC (jesus christ), but I am really feeling this modern day take on it. That hair, that beard, that crown, that scarf thing that priests wear. I’m loving this look and the pink bow shirt undernearth his suit. I truly love this and am very impressed by this look.

Zendaya

If you’ve made it this far, then I’m sure you know that Zendaya is the up and coming mini Ri when it comes to slaying the Met. She is channeling all of the Joan of Arc vibes and I LOVE it. She is such a feminist and I am so jealous of all the teens who get to have her as a role model and a positive female celebrity to look up to. I love how she is the badass saint, yet she is a modern day badass. Old meets new. I still can’t believe she came as this stunning human being, in this stunning wig, and stunning silver dress, and everyone knowing who she is channeling. Literally so cool.

Chadwick Boseman

Our boy Chaddy was serving us a damn look! I am soo for these guys finally starting to dress up a little more than just a suit. Like, I mean a nice fitting suit looks great and all, but there’s just no oomph. But this! This has all the oomph I need. I love this white suit, and cape combo. Oooh those gold shoes are amazing. I also loved how he stayed on theme, with the gold accents and crosses. Keep it up man, because I was seeing King of Wakanda tonight.

Cardi B

I know that I just did a post featuring Bardi, but omg I LOVE how she paid homage to Beyonce with her Met Gala look!! A queen in the making paying tribute to an established queen! I love this! Women supporting one another. Cardi looks like damn royalty, look at her cradling that lil bump! A princess is being born! I am loving the sides of this dress!! I love this shape! Victorian-esque with a modern twist. So beautiful.

SZA

Aaand lastly, we have the ever stunning SZA. If there had been a “most whimsical” award, SZA would have won it that night. This dress is just so beautiful, elegant and fun at the same time. She looks like a fairy princess. I am in love. I also really love how her boots match the bodice of the gown, maybe it’s even a full jumpsuit with an attached skirt? Either way, I’m living for this tulle AND her halo. The world is her oyster and I’m just swimming around.

Anyways, those are just my humble opinions, please don’t burn me at the stake for liking Gigi’s dress the best.

Hello to all y’all thots out there!

Nice to speak with you again, whether or not my one follower noticed my absence, I’m back and ready to write my opinions that weren’t asked for.

I have missed so many pop culture moments while I’ve been away, it’s almost been upsetting, I’m not even sure where to start. But perhaps I’ll start with Bacardi B herself.

Sooo many amazing (and unfortunate) things have happened for Cardi lately! First off her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, debuted at number ONE on the Billboard 200! I don’t even have the words for that! It is literally so amazing and I feel so proud for her. She has worked her ass off and created some damn good bops along the way. I feel her soul in so many of the songs off this album, she got really personal with it and I am feeling it.

Next off for Cardi, she is touring with Bruno Mars for his 24K Magic mini tour. I am literally SO jealous of everyone who managed to tickets for this. Side note: I swear that Ticketmaster releases only a handful of tickets then sells them as “resale tickets” like 10 minutes later*. That concert is going to be BONKERS. Bruno Mars shows are already unbelievable to begin with, but now with Cardi there, it is going to be the most lit party/show ever. Also idk if this is obvious but my guess is that they’re going to do an encore of their Finesse collab.

I have been loving all of these interviews she has been doing. She is so fucking funny. I absolutely love her attitude as well, she has no shame about anything. I love that she doesn’t try to hide, she is unapologetically herself and of course, I’m living for it. She co-hosted The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and killed it! I thought it was hilarious after the opening monologue when she stole Fallon’s chair then he had to get a stool from backstage. ALSO it was super nice of the guest, comedian John Mulaney, to get a “cardi g” for her lil babe (see next paragraph). I feel like such a fangirl right now, I can’t stop gushing about how much I love her personality, she’s just great. Here’s a clip of her teaching Fallon on how to pronounce her infamous noises and what they each mean.

And of course, last but not least, Cardi B is having a Baby C!!!! There were rumours floating around for a while that she was preggers before her beautiful announcement on SNL!!! Now that was a badass pregnancy announcement. Like “no baby, mama’s not gonna take a pretty picture and put it on Instagram, mama’s gonna be werking”.I just loved how they panned the screen out and she’s just wearing this gorg white dress, WHILE giving warning to the baby daddy to be careful with her since she’s a damn force of nature. 

I just have so much respect for this woman and the empire that she is continuing to build. I can’t wait to see the types of music she makes in the years to come. Continue to slay Bardi!

*I have no idea if my conspiracy is true, I have done no research on it. I just don’t get how tickets can sell out in a minute then be available for 3x the price, like 5 minutes after being released. Please don’t sue me Ticketmaster, I can’t afford that like your overpriced resale tickets.

TROUTY MOUTH BABIES!?!?

OH. MY. GOD! Now THIS was a surprise if I have ever seen one! Emma Watson (Hermione Granger/Belle/Feminist 3rd wave movement maker) and Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans (née Trouty mouth) on Glee/Singer) were recently spotted by some creepy paps out and about holding hands!!!!!

Am I the only one saying “whaaaat”?? How did these two meet? What brings them together? This is like one of the most random celeb pairings I have EVER seen, especially since until very recently, I thought his last name was Overstream. Damn, he just werked his way up the social rankings over night. I’m honestly really wondering how they met.

Look how happy she looks though. That smile! She is just beaming at him, it is absolutely adorable! That firm grip on each other’s hands! They’re even walking with the same foot forward, talk about being in sync (there is a 50/50 chance of that happening though).

Look at their faces, I wonder what type of stimulating conversation they are having. He looks like he’s saying “wtf are you serious”, and she’s like “yeah man, I am”.

I don’t know about you, but I was a TOTAL gleek. Like I LOVED Glee so much, although I feel like a poser because I never watched the last season, especially after Corey Monteith passed away (RIP). I wanted to watch it on Netflix but they just took it all off and it’s such a hassle to find a decent stream, plus you have to dodge like a million popup ads.

Ever since I found out about this relationship, I have had this song sung by Naya Rivera from Glee in my head. As a fairwell, just imagine Emma singing this to Chord after a tipsy night out.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE - THE DRUNK PRESS TOUR

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for years, Jennifer Lawrence has become the qween of relatable. Whether it was because of her humble beginnings on a Kentucky farm or her rise to stardom and her winning an Oscar for Best Actress at the fucking age of 22 (not so damn relatable), but falling up the stairs on the way to retrieve it (so damn relatable), she has become a celebrity of the people.

Her new movie, The Red Sparrow, came out recently and she has been doing a shit ton of press for it. One theme I’ve noticed that has become very common among interviewers, is to get her drunk af. And I LOVE it. Omg she is so hilarious, and like I kind of feel bad because who knows, maybe she doesn’t feel like drinking there or something BUT she is known to also speak her mind so if she didn’t want to she would probably say something.

I recently just watched her Ellen interview where she talks about her drunk alter ego, appropriately named Gail, and I basically died (I may have some experience with drunk alter egos). ESPECIALLY when Ellen showed a picture of JLaw on vacation and it looks like a completely different person. OR when Ellen had someone bring out a tray of rum drinks for her and Jen chose the pink cocktail, ugh a girl after my own heart. I’m also loving the part when she gets up and runs to the screen and only one shoe is on.

ALSO that Stephen Colbert interview was fucking hilarious. They do damn rum shots! And then Jen is just wasted basically and takes her shoes off, which is way more comfy btw. BUT prior to this interview, she was drinking at one earlier that day! I’m also loving Colbert’s apologizes during the interview, like “I am so sorry for getting you wasted on my show” basically.

THEN poor Jen had to go to The Red Sparrow movie premier druuuunkkkk. I honestly think that had she not said she was, no one would really have noticed - but since she did, all I can see are those drunk eyes

WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO BE SO DAMN HILARIOUS. Like she just seems so funny, and so down to earth, not to mention bad-ass, clever and extremely fucking successful, I want her to be on my BFF-tier. Ugh maybe one day we can get a drink together Jen.

OSCARS LOOKS

Yesterday was the 90th Oscars and boy, lemme tell you, I did not watch it. They need to have a streamable version on Twitter or something to help it out a little. I also don’t want to sit and watch all these speeches, the show is like 5 hours long, I don’t have the attention span for that.

On a more important note, it was the 90th Oscars last night and boy, lemme tell you, people came dressed to impress. I LOVE seeing the fashions of these award shows as much as I don’t like watching them. Anyone can make a list of what all these celebrities wore that night, but only I can make a list of my favourites ;)

Without further ado, here are my favourite looks of the night:

Margot Robbie

Margot looked absolutely stunning at the Oscars. Like when I saw this dress I was like holy shit ass. While it looks very simple, everything is in the detail. Obviously her stylist didn’t have to do much since she’s naturally like the hottest person on the planet, but this is stunning. While most of the attention has been going to those tinsel-esque sleeves, my favourite part of this look is the cascading, flower petal effect of the hem. She looks like the most gorgeous tulip of all time. I seriously cannot get over how simple, yet striking this is.

Viola Davis

This is a LOOK if I have ever seen one!! I cannot handle how gorgeous and RADIANT Viola Davis looked. This is CONFIDENCE! It’s basically exuding out of her! This shimmery, hot pink dress is so beautiful, she wears it so well. I love how her clutch also matches it. I am also LOVING her hair! Since the dress is so out there, it makes sense that her stylist wanted her face to be seen but I am in love! Viola is rocking her curls BEHIND her and has a slick-do at the front, modern day, fashionista mullet! Business in the front, rockin in the back. She is basically Elle Woods reincarnated and I am living for it.

Allison Janney

This is one of the most elegant looks of the entire night. Allison Janney looks so poised and so gorgeous, red is really her colour. I am so in love with these sleeves! These are a damn statement! We all know cape dresses have been making some sort of comeback, and while this dress isn’t cape per say, it almost looks as if it is. I love the way the dress falls on her. If I had to sum this look up in word, it would be fabulous.

Gina Rodriguez

Now I do not have much experience with Gina Rodriguez, like I’ve seen one episode of Jane the Virgin, but she looked absolutely stunning. This is a pure princess look and I love it. Modern princess. I love how the front of the dress shapes her figure and the sides of the dress flare out to create a ball-gown like form. I love everything about this dress. The sequins, the neckline, the belt, the fair. She is just glowing.

Taraji P. Henson

One word: sex-yyyyyy. Hot damn!! Taraji is one hot mama and she knows it! She is flaunting everything she’s got and is looking fine as hell doing it! Look at that strut! That leg! That smile! Personally, I’m not a huge fan of this dress, but it doesn’t matter what I think because she is WEARING it. This dress is her bitch. Ugh I can’t even with how good she looks. She owned this red carpet.

Lupita Nyong'o & Danai Gurira

These two women are grouped together because I found these pictures on Buzzfeed originally and honestly, their looks feed off of each other. Lupita’s shiny dress reflects Danai’s making them look similar in colour. I really love how edgy Lupita’s dress is. Like the shimmery, golden dress is gorgeous but it was really amped up with the black sash type accessory (it’s likely part of the dress).Danai’s dress is very classically beautiful, but what really sets her apart is the silver accessory worn on her head and how her makeup matches it. These two women look fierce af and so fashionable.

Emma Stone

So Ms. Stone decided to change it up a bit and wear a damn SUIT to the oscars! How cool is she? Talk about fashion-forward or what? While I do feel it’s more on the casual side, she looks effing amazing and had to be included in this list. I also love how silky her outfit is. She looks super comfortable and who wouldn’t be when you have to sit through a damn long award show. I am digging this look and everything that Emma Stone is.

Ansel Elgort

Honourable mention

While suits are nowhere near as fun as dresses (exception Emma Stone), this jacket is pretty sick. I’m really feeling this green velour number. His girlfriend’s dress is pretty cool too. Props to her for having the bravery to free the nips at the Oscars.

STORMI WEBSTA

So breaking news basically, Kylie posted a photoset of her holding baby Stormi. You can't really get a good look at how cute I'm assuming Stormi is, but she is soo adorable and small.

You know what? Good for Kylie. I honestly did not think she was pregnant this entire time. I thought she just wanted to escape the media circus and a take a little break. I have no idea how she even hid it so well. People were watching her like vultures. I bet paparazzi would've gotten paid like hundreds of thousands if they had gotten a good shot of pregnant Kylie (I have no idea how much paparazzo make, this is my assumption, it seems a little steep).

I am so amazed at all the young women who have babies and become great lil mamas. Like good for you, you werk it. Of course this is an entirely different case since Kylie is mega rich, but I am still very amazed. 

I actually love how bonded this family is. Like they would go to the ends of the earth for each other. Kim was on James Corden's show and they were playing this game called "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts", where you either confess something or eat something gross, and Kim ate like a cow eye or something because he asked if Khloe and Kylie were pregnant, which at the time was being kept secret. 

On another note, why are baby clothes so cute? I love how basically all baby sweaters have tiny ears on them. Baby shoes are basically the cutest out of anything. The tiny little things just sit in the palm of your hand. Like, what creature wears these tiny little shoes on their tiny little feet?

PINK HAIR

Thank you for all the encouragement  I received from my sorority sisters for starting this blog. To start it all off, my first post, of course, has to be dedicated to Mrs. Kim Kardashian West.

I don't know about you guys but I am LIVING for Kim's pink hair! I absolutely love it. How does she manage to still look so cool and chic with hair this colour? Side bar: is she wearing track pants? or are those jeans? I know she's wearing Yeezy season 7, so I think it must be sweats since I don't think Kanye makes jeans. Loving the combo of snake skin, knee-high boots and sweats, few people could pull that off.

Even here in Tokyo, she looks sick as fuckkk. Like a sexy space lady with her pink ass hair

Also, how did her hair get so long so fast? I swear it was basically shoulder length last year and now it's down to her waist? I know she said she doesn't fuck with wigs, but she must fuck with extensions.
