UGH i can't escape this Peach-Rebecca idea... I don't usually draw but the spirit moved me or something idk
Rosalina moves to the side so Boo can better see the orchestra. Peach can’t even hear what she says, if anything. It’s just a little sway to the side, her blue skirts rustling and a small nod to King Boo.
The King raises his glass, a tight wince of polite thanks before he’s taking another drink, and that’s it, really. That’s all, but the swish of Rosalina's hem across the dark wood haunts the back of her eyelids the rest of the night.
They must have danced together, she thinks. Surely. She can almost picture it, the two of them, as young royals. Maybe even before the Plague, back in King Eidolon’s rule.
They would have been sweeter then, buoyant. Flushed with youth, with fresh, bright eyes. Their faces unlined, and rounder in the cheeks and jaw.
Rosalina would have been newly Queen, dazzled by the pink shine of the shell tiles, the busy neatness of the halls. The rippling moulding along the walls. She might have run her fingers over it, gasping at its white smoothness, just as Peach had done, cool to the touch like marble.
And they’d have announced her, a steward or toadservant crying aloud,
“Her Royal Majesty, Queen Rosalina, of the Celestial Kingdom!” The sound ringing wide throughout the whole golden ballroom.
And people would turn and stare and maybe Rosalina would have stood there, at the top of that wide staircase, as Peach had done so many months ago, listening as her name was read out and the fresh rounds of whispers started up for each girl.
But whereas Peach had raised her chin and had had to press her lips together to keep them from trembling, had clenched her hands into balls at her side until they bit into her palms, left pale crescents in their wake, Rosalina would merely have stood, twinkling in her gown.
Her hands clasped, serene. Her forehead uncreased, her lips, rosy, relaxed. Those pale blue fingernails trailing lightly down the inlaid barrister.
Peach wonders what she wore. If she’s always favored the long bell sleeves? If she even checks the fashion catalogues, or if, even then, she’d had a personal dressmaker she employed?
A woman like that need not follow the flighty trends that they all else obsessed and gnawed at and frittered over. She need not flip through the pages, considering her figure, the season, the event, the cost, before carefully selecting her choice, a circle in thick black ink. Not like Peach.
No, a woman like that. She would know what she wanted and would send a messenger to her dressmaker when she wanted. Would dictate the message from her vanity, perhaps.
In her smallclothes and a white lace chemise– real, handmade, not imitation– while she put powder on her nose, saying over her shoulder to her chambermaid or toadservant,
“And send for my dressmaker, there’s a ball in two months and I’ll need a gown made. Tell her I want that blue silk she showed me last month, she’ll know the one I mean, and the cream lace and beading at the hem.”
No, a woman like that. She knew what she liked and she wore it, and her tastes were the ones the dressbooks and print makers scrambled to assume. Peach imagined her like this. How tall, how serene, how charming.
Her melodic voice, smooth and deep as a bell. She must have swept the young Crown Prince away, speaking quietly at his side as they danced.
She would murmur something lovely, into his ear, and he would crack a smile, his eyes would squint, and they would ring circles around those polished, shell pink floors.
Mario lore not real mario
Do you think Peach is jealous when she sees Rosalina and Boo interact? Like, surely they must, even just a little, for state dinners and such...
It's not so much that they're CLOSE, so much as it is the fact that they used to be close, you know how you can tell that in people? The fact that there clearly USED to be some inkling of familiarity between Rosalina and Boo... I think it would drive Peach up the WALL.
And also the fact that CURRENTLY they are nothing more than diplomatic/ polite to each other. They aren't close. How can you be jealous of something that doesn't exist?
It reminds me of Daphne du maurier's Rebecca?
"I could fight with the living but I could not fight the dead. If there was some woman in London that Maxim loved, someone he wrote to, visited, dined with, slept with, I could fight her. We would stand on common ground. I should not be afraid. Anger and jealousy were things that could be conquered. One day the woman would grow old or tired or different, and Maxim would not love her anymore. But Rebecca would never grow old. Rebecca would always be the same. And she and I could not fight. She was too strong for me."
It's the ghost of their relationship that she sees in everything. The careful distance they keep between their bodies when they dance at state functions. The bare necessities of politeness. It's the fact that Rosalina grew up with Boo, she knew Boo back then, Before.

This is about a Mario bros fanseries and not regular Mario stuff:
I am a Peach defender, not because I think her actions were Great but because I think she's a victim in a terrible situation up until she snapped and killed boo. Based on the YouTube comments I'm pretty sure folks think Bowser is like some innocent victim while Peach is a horrible manipulator, and King Boo was just so traumatized so all his dickery wasn't his fault. Which makes Peach worse for killing him.
Free my girl. She did all that stuff but the audience heavily mischaracterized her. Also, I should probably stop reading the YouTube comments.
(Ramble beneath the cut)
I am not pro Peach killing Boo, but that's so incredibly reductive. Peach left an incredibly abusive environment (we've seen on screen financial and emotional abuse from just her brother, and they've implied a lot of additional emotional abuse in flashback things) to pursue a political marriage with a much older and more powerful man. That man treated her (and everyone) like shit, actively degrading her. Then she settles for an arranged political marriage with his younger brother, who we saw was physically abusive well before Peach did anything to "deserve" the physical abuse (cheating never justifies abuse, but some folks in the comments seem to think she deserved the recent physical abuse because she was Evil).
The affair would suck for Bowser, for sure, but from Peach's perspective it's 100% understandable. It doesn't make her a manipulative villain. Again we saw in videos that she didn't love Bowser, and hadn't known him for all that long. And he was already physically violent towards her. Then the man she's been groomed to want starts showing interest in her, and they actually have things in common, and he's not violent towards her or dismissive of her feelings. They had a genuine connection to each other, canonically offering mutual emotional support and compassion well before they had a sexual encounter. Of course she's going to pursue it! I don't think it's right to do it, but she's literally been primed to do it her entire life!
And then they get caught, and Peach and Boo agree to throw Boo under the bus. Peach is trying to salvage her relationship with Bowser but so much of her motivation must be genuine fear. Bowser will hurt her. He has explosive episodes of rage triggered by very little followed by his attempt at love bombing. Or, Bowser will divorce her and send her back to her abusive family, likely taking back the aid offered to their kingdom and leaving them in a very precarious situation. He has all of the power, and has for their entire relationship. Of course she'll do anything to stay on his good side.
Killing Boo is also the decision of a deeply unwell woman. She's clearly going full "mad queen," and I am very excited to see how much she'll actually do. It just seems clear to me that if Bowser's physical abuse can be written off by so many folks because he's traumatized then Peach's actions should be understood compassionately too.

I'm just imagining things that might happen if dead!Boo ever found out Luigi can see ghosts. As a side note, now I'm wondering if he can hear them too, or if it's just sight. Because if he can't hear them, Boo might end up resorting to this

Twilight Princess isn’t technically a horror game, and there’s a certain schmaltziness to its mid-2000s mall goth aesthetic. Still, Twilight Princess was the first video game I encountered that implied the hero is a murderer, and its strange and unsettling cutscenes serve as puzzle pieces that form a fragmented picture of Hyrule’s hidden history of prejudice, war, and genocide.
When Link confronts Ganondorf at the end of the game, Ganondorf meets his challenge with bitter irony and issues a warning – the cycle of bloodshed cannot be ended with violence. Link kills him anyway, and the cruelty of this act convinces Midna that it’s impossible for her to remain in Hyrule as an ethnic minority.
All of this went over my head when I first played Twilight Princess as a kid, but it really messed me up when I returned to the game as an adult. I’m still haunted by the dread that came from the realization that the fun desert dungeon where Link gets the cool spinner item is a mass graveyard.
#yeah the way you can kind of#dig into it as you get older#and see the more messed up stuff the royal family has hidden#eg snowpeak#and arbiter's grounds#you begin to wonder if there's a point where link realizes what he is doing#like does he realize he is the right hand of the crown and what that may fully mean#or is he so deep in the propaganda he doesn't realize?#esp coming from a rural area...#if he DID realize would it even matter? no matter the crimes of the royal family someone still has to save the country and the innocent ppl#twilight princess#link#loz#legend of zelda
