my high school physics teacher was a big saint louis blues fan. he had a very big flag in the back of the classroom that had their logo and the teams colors on it. on occasion he would even wear a blues jacket, which completely stood out from the uniforms we all had to wear. no one else at that school was a fan of the blues, hell, im sure not many of them watched hockey, we lived in louisiana after all.

no one complained, i mean i will say i think a few took notice, there’s not many people from saint louis who would move to the middle of the swamp, after all.

he barely mentioned hockey or the blues in his actual class work, just like how any other teacher doesn’t really ever talk about what sports team they like. you might get some talk about the recent saints or pels game but hey, you live in new orleans, you’re practically obliged to be a saints fan.

no one became blues fans because of the jerseys he wore or the flag in his room. i noticed on occasion the few hockey fans in our class discussing hockey with him, talking about the latest news or even about how it was like in his old home town. i think it formed some sort of solidarity with their teacher knowing they had common interests, which is something all teachers strive to gain within their students.

and no one ever wrote to the school or tried to pass a law forcing him to take his flag down
