I'm so tired of how people treat Shiemi in blue exorcist. Spoilers for the manga but it was fully set up that she and rin would be a thing since day 1 of her appearing.

The author of blue exorcist is a woman who writes hee female characters with a depth that shounen often misses when men write it.

People get mad that she didn't react just completely fine when Rin was revealed to be a demon and the son of Satan while ignoring that all the kids had valid negative reactions because of what demons canonically are in the world of blue exorcist. And yet if she was completely fine and permissive of things everyone would've called her boring.

And all the kids realize they're wrong. No izumo isn't the "more deserving one" because she happened to be okay with it more quickly. She's just someone who is more bold. And Rin was never shown to have been interested in her like that so this idea of her being nice and thus deserving romance for it is weird and I hate that fans will do that.

Then you have fans who will say shiemi is undeserving because she didn't just accept rin immediately while also going "rin should've ended up with one of the guys but didn't because of homophobia" apparently? Like what are we talking about because those guys were also not chill with rin and also never set up as anything more than rivals or friends.

Blue exorcist is one of the few Shounen where the romance set up works because the author actually treats the women like characters and people of their own rather than accessories to simply prove their characters are straight. Others in this vein to me are Bleach and FMA. Say what you will about ichihime but orihime still was an important character to the narrative and very clearly set up as someone important to ichigo.

If shiemi was flawless people would call her boring and harp on about how she sucks for rin. Shiemi has flaws and people harp on how she doesn't deserve him for having a complex reaction to something.

People call them boring because they've been set up for over a decade at this point and are a healthy dynamic who love each other without a huge dosing of drama or combative interactions. Like you don't have to like them. You're welcome to ship what you like, shipping at its core has never been about canon. But stop going onto posts of people happy about it to give your unwanted hatred for shiemi or rin/shiemi and just mind your business. Enjoy your ship on your own time.
