So! I’m gonna post this to gauge people’s reaction to me writing a small swap AU story for the land of stories, and you guys can use the way Conner and Alex ended up to see if you think it might be interesting to you!

Can I bother you for some Xanthous headcanons? Or Cyrus headcanons?

The Xanthous information would be a headcanon for sure, but Cyrus is an OC so it would very much be canon if I said so haha. I’ll give you five of each and (just in case you were meaning the version of Xanthous I have developed for my story) I’ll give you five extra headcanons that involve them both.

Xanthous Headcanons:

1. Xanthous’s mannerisms evolved quickly as he grew, meaning he matured quickly and found solace in seriousness, because of the switch from being a member of the Fairy Council to becoming the literal Demon King. It’s different when you have people there to bounce ideas off of, to keep you in check, to not let the power of ruling over a completely subservient species like the demons get to your head. Xanthous faced difficulties while being the Demon King—many of which coincided with what the previous Demon King dealt with. Eventually, this started to change him into someone like the person he was reincarnated from. Thankfully, Xanthous had the self-restraint and respect for the demons to contact the fairies and have them help him. As a group, they planned out how the demons could learn self-governance, and this allowed Xanthous to rejoin their ranks despite remaining the Demon King. However, his personality would never quite go back to what it used to be when he was younger.

2. Xanthous took a while to learn about the full extent of the LGBTQIA+ community. At first, he thought it only consisted of people who were attracted to the same gender. Then, when he discovered the possibility of someone being attracted to both genders, it started to open his eyes to the possibilities. The first time he encountered someone who was transgender, he knew that person belonged under the same umbrella as him—not because he was trans, but because they were both othered and differed from what was considered “normal”. He’s always been an advocate for everyone included in the queer community, and the people who go “LGB without the T” make him unfathomably angry.

3. Xanthous never focused too much on education until he got to a point in his life where he realized that being a member of the Fairy Council and Happily Ever After Assembly (this headcanon is before Alex so it’s not the Happily Forever After Assembly just yet) meant that he was one of the rulers of the world. As such, being educated was extremely important, and so he began to teach himself various things he never learned in secret. Because of this, he’s actually quite the learned man and that’s why he takes a lot of pride in his station. He also enjoys the new sense of efficiency that comes with being knowledgeable about the best courses of action, and this is why we see him run the Bailey home in such a strict fashion. He doesn’t mean any harm by it, he just knows the best way to keep everyone safe.

4. Xanthous didn’t notice it until it was pointed out to him, but his Demon King crown and cape resemble an angel’s halo and wings. Not being particularly religious (even if he knows demons exist and therefore it does make sense that angels might as well), Xanthous didn’t question much about it. Then, he started looking more into the known lore about angels and demons… Suddenly, the stories about demons being fallen angels started to make a bit of sense to him. Angels that lived in the heavens must have been able to withstand heat incredibly well because of how close they are to the sun. If they were fire beings all along, then it makes sense why they would want to build their home in the center of the earth after falling. Xanthous couldn’t make much sense of it, since they were just myths and legends, but he likes to think that demons are just angels that followed their own paths in life. If that got them kicked out of heaven, then perhaps it wasn’t so great up there. This is all just speculation to Xanthous because he doubts he’ll ever know the truth.

5. Xanthous doesn’t know his true birthday. He has a general sense of when it may be solely because he knew to watch out for when his father would suddenly become worse at some random point in the year. Because it happened like clockwork around a specific month, set of weeks, or even couple of days, he’s narrowed it down to a range of times. However, he doesn’t trust himself to give accurate information on that, so eventually—when he was free from that life—he just picked one of the days and stuck with it. That became his birthday, and it wasn’t like the specifics really mattered because he aged every year regardless. But, everyone he knows (namely the Fairy Council) respect his decision to have chosen his own birthday and celebrate him on that day. Despite having the power to potentially find out for sure when he was born exactly, they would rather Xanthous have the positive association of assigning his birthday to himself rather than any of the negative aspects that came with his actual birthday. Short headcanon: Brystal definitely knows and she’s only told like Emerelda, but they care for Xanthous too much to tell anyone else.

Cyrus (Head)Canons:

1. Cyrus has quite a few motifs that go into his character. One of the biggest ones is the connection to butterflies. Not only do butterflies symbolize growth, transformation, and development through facing challenges (all of which are central themes of his character), but they also represent things like freedom and hope. Cyrus doesn’t actually embody all of these aspects because he’s more like a caterpillar than he is a butterfly. He’s still going through the stages of trying to become what he was meant to be, but (unlike actual caterpillars), Cyrus has a series of physical, mental, and emotional blocks that prevent him from getting to the butterfly stage. His story has strong roots in the realistic journey of life where you find yourself tossed into situations without many tools to help you navigate it. The more he learns and practices, the more tools he obtains. The more tools he obtains, the easier his life becomes. That is the moral and significance of being taught in a way that benefits you—as is eventually seen through Cyrus’s character growth.

2. Cyrus is incredibly musically inclined. While he can’t play an instrument, he likes to hum tunes he is familiar with and particularly enjoys specific orchestral pieces because of the layers to the sound. He has a preference for when all manner of instruments can come together to produce something full and moving, and he is the type to get goosebumps when the music gets really good. He has a way of deciphering whether or not someone puts their emotions, heart, and soul into a piece they have written or are performing, so he actually is a little picky with what he enjoys hearing. Of course, he knows it’s not his place to be so judgmental when he can’t even play an instrument, but his taste for quality music doesn’t go unappreciated when people ask him for feedback. Cyrus’s complements to musicians go above and beyond—since he is familiar with some basic musical terminology—so he tends to deliver very specific insight into pieces. Because of this, he tends to befriend people who are musicians or similarly musically inclined (like Juniper for example).

3. Cyrus’s magic has strong familial roots, and this is why he is so disconnected from it. While capable of training himself to get better at it over time, Cyrus can never fully unlock the potential he has for magic until he faces his ancestry. This happens within the story, but Cyrus’s father is a very central figure—especially when it comes to Cyrus’s magical capabilities. His techniques and affinity with splitting apart the fabric of reality are actually generational secrets passed down in the Amury family that Cyrus never got to know because he had no recollection of his father. Before being cursed with amnesia, Cyrus was beyond compare when it came to magic. He was taught by only the best of the best, and he excelled within all manner of magical study. Unfortunately, in his story, Cyrus struggles to get back to that level of magical prowess even after regaining his memories. This is because, even with the knowledge of how his magic really works returned to him, he still has the memories of endless struggle and strife while trying to relearn it. This mental block continues to plague him and is the last remnants of his Magiclexia. He is capable and can do magic well, but there will always be a part of him connected to Magiclexia.

4. Cyrus prefers places that are high up. He used to love flying before his wings were ruined, so it’s only natural that he would find himself climbing to the tops of places just to enjoy the feeling of being away from the ground. When he gets used to his magic and has a decent amount of confidence in it, Cyrus uses it to fly short distances. Granted, nothing ever feels the same as flying with his wings, which is why he doesn’t like doing it for too long. The freeing feeling comes with the sorrow of knowing he’s doing it from a difference source. His wings give him grief for quite some time, but he does actually get them back in the future as a reward for completing his journey and returning to his true form. Because of that, Cyrus has to relearn how to fly with them. Just because it’s the end of his journey doesn’t mean his struggles end. Again, his experience is rooted in what would naturally happen if someone just stopped using some of their muscles for a very long time. It requires training and effort and determination to get back to the state they were once in. This is what Cyrus undergoes, but he does it without too many hurdles because the goal is incredibly important to him (which is great motivation).

5. Cyrus enjoys being lazy and procrastinating, but he doesn’t let himself have the luxury of rest because of his stubbornness. In an effort to prove people wrong about him, Cyrus overworks himself. This is obviously the wrong answer to how someone should approach the situation of being judged, but Cyrus has a complex of needing to live up to the expectations of others. This is why whenever he does something wrong, Cyrus either defends his actions until his dying breath or makes up for it as best he can. However, when he has a day to himself where he doesn’t have to do anything, he likes to rot in bed and not leave it. This is a double-edged sword because he eventually feels like he didn’t accomplish anything and that the day was wasted. Unlike most people, who may tell themselves (or be told by others) that self-care is important and it’s ok to take a day to just be lazy and procrastinate, Cyrus doesn’t have access to that mentality. This becomes a vicious cycle of despising himself to the point of overworking which leads to the eventual need for a lazy day and it repeats all over again after that. The only one who has helped him gain a better sense of self-care when it comes to lazing around is Gale, but Cyrus only listens and abides by his words for so long before he does it again. Such is the way of habit and negative mentality. It takes him a while, but eventually he does get better about it permanently.

Cyrus and Xanthous (Head)Canons:

1. Cyrus’s fake sense of confidence has provided him with a real ego that surprises him sometimes. Because of his failure in certain aspects, when Cyrus excels at something he latches onto that pride and becomes self-assured. However, this balancing beam where he sometimes leans too far into confidence and sometimes too far away makes him come off as either too humble or too arrogant. He’s been fighting to get a good balance of both, but it’s extremely difficult for him. That’s where Xanthous comes in. By either hyping him up or humbling him, Xanthous effectively nudges Cyrus into a better position on that balancing beam. While it may come off as Xanthous being a little cruel to him, he is benefiting Cyrus in the long run. In the future, Cyrus is thankful for his assistance. It made him a better man.

2. Xanthous and Cyrus do their best conversing whenever they are seated. It may sound weird, but the way the atmosphere between them changes when they are stationary and locked in to a conversation is astounding. Xanthous eventually catches on to this and makes Cyrus sit down before he eases into a potentially tense topic. Gradually, Xanthous began to choose locations that Cyrus preferred—ones that made him more comfortable—to entice him to stay despite what he had to tell him. Eventually, Cyrus’s reactions to the topics became less intense and he would engage with patience or understanding. Xanthous successfully managed to train Cyrus into being more accepting of information so long as he was sitting down, and that is why there are so many scenes of them sitting together.

3. Cyrus has a spot on the back of his neck (that’s involved with part of his curse) which is very sensitive to touch. It’s basically his weakest spot, and when it is hit too hard or even grabbed a specific way, he has a chance to go into a kind of shock. Xanthous learned this the hard way one time, and Cyrus’s reaction scared him so bad that he has never brought his hand even close to the back of his neck. However, that changed one time when he decided to ask Cyrus about how the back of his neck worked when he saw him massaging it to make himself feel better. Once Xanthous knew the specifics, he finally felt good enough to give him pats on the back again. The worry that he will accidentally hurt him never leaves Xanthous though, and this is why he eventually starts to pat Cyrus on the top of the head whenever he is proud of him. It makes Cyrus feel a little like a dog whenever Xanthous pats the top of his head, and that leads to him commenting on it or smacking his hand away. Secretly, Cyrus doesn’t mind it because he likes head pats or scalp massages. Xanthous probably knows that he doesn’t actually mind it and that’s why he keeps doing it.

4. Xanthous doesn’t realize how central Cyrus is to his daily routine until Cyrus is absent from it. Of course, Xanthous doesn’t mind it and can continue to function perfectly fine without him around, but there is always this little sense that something is missing from his life. Even though it’s time-consuming, Cyrus’s little quibbles with him are one of the things that keep Xanthous on his toes. Since Cyrus is naturally curious, Xanthous has to call upon his wealth of information to answer some of the questions he has or challenges he makes to existing notions. It’s like an exercise for his brain, and without Cyrus there, Xanthous feels like he’s not thinking to his full potential. Cyrus misses the presence of Xanthous much more than Xanthous misses him when they are apart, but there is still a piece of the both of them that feels incomplete in each other’s absence. When Cyrus and Xanthous are reunited, it’s like an itch that has been scratched for Xanthous when he’s met with the inevitable comment that gets his brain thinking. He, of course, has to be correct when challenged by his apprentice, so not only does it give his brain a workout… it also feeds his pride. Cyrus has attempted to chip away at Xanthous’s ego for so long, but it never seems to work.

5. When Xanthous and Cyrus become comfortable with one another, Cyrus eventually starts to settle himself in close quarters with him. One of the things he likes to do is sit and read his books when Xanthous is busy doing some manner of Fairy Council paperwork or something. He’s the type to face his chair at Xanthous, right next to him, and put his legs over his. Xanthous was irritated by this at first, but then it started to feel a bit more like the comfort of a weighted blanket. Because the both of them enjoyed it, the practice of sitting like that became commonplace. While Xanthous doesn’t allow it where other people are free to look at them, he will sit and do his work or read with Cyrus just so they can be seated like that. It’s basically a little treat for the both of them. While Xanthous does like his bubble every now and again, he’s gotten so used to Cyrus that he lets him invade it without consequence. One might even think that Xanthous’s personal bubble expands just so Cyrus can be included and close to him…

But he’d never admit that in a million years.

Unfortunately, I don’t have much art (I’ve been super inactive lately), but I’m the person who got the fanart of Xanthous submitted in the Book Hugger’s Guide. Chris Colfer also put some more of my Xanthous art in his A Tale of Sorcery slideshow if you’d like to use those! I’ve been a fan of the series for over a decade haha, so a lot of it is old. I’ve drawn some other characters, but I’m mainly a Fairy Council buff.

Some great people to check out for the Land of Stories art would be @simplyexisting09 @beyondtheseaofstars @eeveethehyena @0zp1n and if you need more, there’s a good chance we follow people who also do art for the series! All of these guys have absolutely great art!

2 things! 1-Do you play HSR (Honkai Star Rail) and 2-No pressure or anything but when is your story coming back?

I played a bit of HSR but I’m nowhere near as far along in it or as active on it as I am in Genshin. The last character I got was Boothill lol (I live laugh love Boothill).

It still astounds me that people actually enjoyed reading my story haha. I know it’s been a while, but with school and everything it’s been hard to even find time to write. I think I mentioned before that I’m kind of revamping literally everything—so I also have to find the time to draw the chapter art. So many characters are being scrapped/added/changed to help facilitate the storyline a bit better without me having to be so long-winded with it. The problem I was having was I would just write and write and write without really taking the story anywhere. I want to have a bit more structure to it so that it’s easier for me to get chapters published and easier to read as a whole. But, I won’t be able to do anything until school gives me a break 😭

It takes a bit of time to plan out a story lol. I also don’t wanna be like Chris Colfer and have inaccurate timelines and stuff 😔

I promise it won’t be away forever, but since you’ve been so patient, I’ll give you a couple things you can expect in the new version:

1. Further fleshed out backstory lore for Aurelia (and her mother 😒) along with her and Cyrus’s father (people who know about him seem to like him a lot don’t worry)! But why does Aurelia have light skin and gold hair if her biological father has dark skin and blue hair?? Something’s going on there…

2. More Negative content in general since he seems to be a fan-favorite. He also gets a new underling/sidekick! And when I say more Negative content, I also mean his role in other worlds and what that has to do with his identity and his overall plan. OoooOoOoOoOooOo….

3. Actual Demon King stuff (and he’s updated too) 👀

4. Cyrus’s home world is almost fully fleshed out so seeing some of that too! Probably a lot of that too… I might include a small fetch quest there to give you all a tour. I plan on making a completely separate story for that world (that does not have Cyrus as a main character), but that’s A LONG WAYS AWAY and not fanfiction so 😔

5. Some new characters who are projected to be fan-favorites too. Such as Vincent. Y’all might know who Vincent is, but, if you don’t, trust me you will. We will also be exploring more of my fanon backstory for the Demon King and how it connects to Xanthous as his reincarnation. The Demon King himself WILL be an added character (I’m so excited to actually do a art piece of his new design)! This is gonna be fun.

Here’s some questions that hint at lore drops:

What the heck is going on with Aurelia and why does her mother scare me?? Why does Indicum work with her but seem to be on Cyrus’s side?? Is it maybe because Aurelia’s true intentions are not what we think they are??? 😦

What is Negative’s secret ambition that makes him side with Aurelia? Why do his hands always hurt?? Why does he also have the ability to travel between worlds?????

Xanthous has got some insane lore! What’s going on with his underworld (and what’s going on in the aboveworld??) Why is he so secretive about the demons?

Where is Elrik? Where did he go?? Somebody must know! (Somebody does indeed)

Why is Cyrus’s scepter starting to talk to him?????

What does the design on the back of Cyrus’s neck mean? Is it a continuation of his tattoo?? Doesn’t seem like it. Why does he have such a bad reaction when that mark is hit??? And why can hear a voice in his head reacting to it too?

And finally, does the Inamoratos Grimoire actually exist? If so, who has it? Who made it? Why? What does it have to do with Xanthous and Cyrus specifically???

Hi! I was wondering if maybe you had any xelrik headcannons to share for pride month???

Oh boy—sure! Let’s see here…

1. Xanthous and Elrik take as much time as they can to just enjoy the pleasantries of each other’s company because they enjoy the rare moments of peace they get. They just like to talk and chat about things they like, and they are always interested to hear what the other likes as well. It’s a great respite from the insanity that was their typical lives (busy doing things with the Fairy Council and being the Demon King/being forced to go out and do crazy things like hunt a bear/etc.).

2. Speaking of being the Demon King, Xanthous didn’t know how to be a king. But, luckily for him, Xanthous had Elrik… Who happened to be an elf prince. Elrik showed him ways to help manage the demons and give them the king they needed to quell their chaotic natures. Him and Xanthous worked together, and the demons kind of view them both as their rulers even if Elrik isn’t a demon.

3. Continuing off of that idea: Elrik gets what it’s like to be in an extra stressful position and kind of helps Xanthous manage his by giving some tips and tricks. I also like this headcanon because of how we see Xanthous acting in the Land of Stories series (he’s more serious, regal, and knows how to manage a group of people as well as himself). He acts like nobility and I like to think it was Elrik who gave him the confidence to treat himself like one. Our self-conscious boy goes through character growth—yeehaw!

4. Elrik teaches Xanthous how to track! This headcanon I specifically included because Xanthous manages to find the twins in the middle of the forest in book 3. Yes, I know he asked around and people said they saw Lester crash land in that area, but Hagetta’s Hut is hidden really well. Granted he probably had a bird’s eye view from flying, but I like to think he was able to track Hagetta lugging them back to her hut. She’s skilled in the ways of the Dwarf Forests, and I believe she would’ve erased her tracks as best she could so that it would be more difficult to find her. But Xanthous, having been taught by Elrik (who knows the northwest Dwarf Forests really well), was able to find them thanks to his techniques.

5. Elrik likes to surprise Xanthous with gifts. Whether it’s something he kind of picked up on the fly—like a pretty rock—or something he had worked on for a while, Xanthous always reacts with bashfulness and excessive gratitude towards him. Getting gifts was something Xanthous really only got to experience when he was older, so every gift means so much to him. Elrik knows this, so he gives him things to make him smile.

6. Xanthous is well versed in vegetarian cuisine simply because Elrik is a vegetarian. Xanthous also does his best to join him in eating vegetarian meals because he likes the importance and feel-good nature of sharing the meal with him. Elrik has reminded Xanthous about a million times that he doesn’t need to eat vegetarian just because he’s one, but Xanthous does it anyway. Because he loves him.

7. Xanthous and Elrik race (Xanthous flies and Elrik uses his sled and the jackalopes). It’s just a fun thing they do sometimes when they’re adults and Xanthous is back on the council (still have yet to figure out how that happens thanks Mr. Colfer sir) because it’s important to take a moment out of your busy schedule to have fun sometimes. These are more often than not initiated by Elrik, but on rare occasions Xanthous will remind himself that Elrik also has to be gently told to take a load off every now and again. After they’ve laughed, they talk about balancing work and fun to maintain a healthy mindset. Because they’re somewhat healthy adults (let me have this please).

8. Elrik gets to be SUPER tall. We see with Elvina that she’s like taller than the average person, and she’s Elrik’s younger sister, so it’s pretty safe to assume that Elrik got tall. And, since we know he like…spends most of his time in the forest doing what have you, we can also make the assumption that he’s a bit on the stronger side too.

Ergo: Xanthous gets picked up by him. Quite a bit. Assuming he’s there in the Land of Stories series and the twins just don’t get that he’s an elf because of the fact that he’s super tall and not like the typical elf so he didn’t get noticed, of course. But he totally picks Xanthous up to spin him around or just embrace him every so often.

Xanthous gets exasperated by this, but he loves his husband so he tolerates it (he secretly loves it).

9. Xanthous and Elrik did take some time to travel together when Xanthous rejoined the Fairy Council—without being on the run. They didn’t have to Jack and Goldilocks it, but they did spend a lot of time in the forest. It helped Xanthous reconnect with the surface world after ruling over the demons for a bit. Elrik is secretly very happy to be back on the surface amongst trees and in a cooler, less pressurized climate. It also makes Elrik happy when Xanthous enjoys something about the forest—makes him feel more attuned to him through a liking for nature.

10. Again, assuming Elrik is there during the Land of Stories, he playfully teases Xanthous about how he always seems to be paired up with Lampton. He suggests they’re work husbands after they get back from babysitting the twins. Xanthous has to spend a minimum of five minutes each time telling him that Lampton doesn’t even consider him a friend. Elrik always laughs at his reactions because he knows Lampton thinks pretty highly of Xanthous and it’s cute to see Xanthous pretending like Lampton isn’t his work husband.

P.S. I was a Xampton shipper back in middle school because I saw them constantly being paired together. Babysitting the twins, defending the Charming Kingdom, carrying Bo Peep—like come on guys. Come on.

11. Xanthous picks out Elrik’s outfits from now on because the checkered pattern was only good in moderation. Elrik looks so much better now. He’s very grateful.

Side note for this one: Elrik asked why Xanthous doesn’t dress him as dapper as he does, and Xanthous has to tell him about the whole “this is who I am on the inside” thing. Elrik got curious, Xanthous showed him what he meant, and Elrik asked if Xanthous could help him figure out how to dress like he wanted to dress. His outfit is a bit more practical, but it looks so much better. Xanthous is proud of Elrik for having the courage to come forth and ask him for some help in feeling comfortable in something—even if it’s just clothing. He likes that he trusts him enough to help.

12. Elrik affectionately calls Xanthous some fire-related pet names on occasion. Xanthous…sighs every single time, but he’d do anything for his husband so he endures it (he secretly thinks it’s very cute and tries to come up with forest-y pet names for him, but can never seem to come up with good ones).

13. Elrik has a problem with sleeping in the pitch black darkness of Xanthoue’s room or at low altitudes, so he’s grateful to have Xanthous there. He’s literally a nightlight and also very cuddle-able because of his warmth. When they get older, they actually don’t live in the Fairy Palace. They’ve got their own place somewhere in the Fairy Kingdom so that they can both be more comfortable. On occasions where Xanthous decides to reside at the palace because of business or something (he’s always got a room there because he considers it his second home), Elrik misses him so much that he just goes with him. Xanthous is actually really glad because he doesn’t like sleeping alone. Having Elrik there provides him security and lessens the chances of him having nightmares.

14: Xanthous tried out a gentle makeup look once and hated it, but Elrik found him and—because he had a younger sister—he was a little familiar with the topic of makeup. So he redoes it for him and teaches him how to do it. If you’ve read Goldilocks: Wanted Dead or Alive, you’ll see the art of Xanthous makes him have like constant cat eyes. This made me go “eyeliner???” Which then made me go “omg makeup. He’s got a bit of makeup on”. This probably isn’t true, but I wanted it to be so here we are. Boom headcanon.

15: They like to hold hands any chance they get. It’s a meaningful gesture, even if simple, and it makes them feel secure knowing that the other is right there and not going anywhere. They often just sit together and do their own thing, but one of their hands will be occupied holding the other’s. When they’re out and about for a casual stroll, their fingers will be locked together. It’s really just a small thing they do to make sure the other feels nice. They’re there to support each other, and they show it through small yet impactful things like hand holding.

Heyyyy big fan of your story here, and I was wondering how you envisioned your characters voices? Like, if they have accents or no, for clarification.

That’s a great question, and I actually have their voices completely fleshed out. I read my story aloud a lot to myself…because I was my own beta reader, and I found I could spot a lot of mistakes by doing that. Eventually I did give them voices.

Cyrus has an American accent because I have an American accent. (Not southern)

Aurelia also has an American accent (still not southern sorry)

Indicum has the kind of British accent that Chris Colfer used for his characters in the TLOS audio books. Y’know the British but not British one?

Negative’s also got that British but not British accent. But he sounds more…chomp chomp raaaaaaa. Idk if you could understand what I meant by that. But…just envision a British shark that roars like a lion. That’s Negative.

Nova has that too. But instead of a shark he sounds like…just a really pretentious jerk.

Gale has an American one. He speaks with some energy too. A bit of power behind it.

Juniper has the British accent but she speaks kind of sweetly. Think Skylene’s voice but less wistful and more whimsical.

Uhhh yeah. Most of the OCs switch from the one Chris Colfer used for his TLOS characters to just American. I should branch out fr, but I also wanted to stick close to what Colfer used because it takes place in his world and yada yada.

Are you going to be reuploading your story? I think I saw somewhere that you said you were rewriting it. It was a great read!

I am still in the middle of planning it out to have better pacing, but eventually it will be re-uploaded. I’m also gonna be moving to one of two fan fiction sites. Still debating which one.

Who knows, maybe I’ll show some previews on Tumblr. I know I’ll be posting some of the art here (probably).

But thank you! I’m really glad you liked it. There’s actually so much more to the story, but I got so caught up in writing that I didn’t even get anywhere with it. 10k chapters of just the mc ranting was not what I wanted lol.

I use Clip Studio Paint! No I’m not rich, I got it as a gift from my dad while it was on sale haha.

𝐗𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 the courtyard. It had been a while since he felt this sense of panic. Fear consuming him over the status of his lover. He had to be alive…Xanthous probably wouldn’t be able to handle loss.

Wouldn’t be able to handle it? What was he even thinking? He's lived for centuries, experienced countless deaths…why would this one be any different? He frowned at this realisation. What made this different? Why was Xanthous…scared?

“Sir Xanthous?"

The yellow fairy turned, and it didn't take long for the joy and relief to be seen on his face. “Lampton.” he responded, feeling much more at ease.

The two embraced and for a moment, all that fear that Xanthous felt earlier washed away. He was left feeling the serenity of his lover’s warm hold.

But that serenity didn’t last long. Xanthous pulled away from the hug and looked into the hazel eyes that were in front of him. “Is everything alright in the Charming Kingdom? How are your troupes?”

“Fine as of right now. However I fear the worst is yet to come. Everyone has their guard up. What about the Council? I imagine you are all equally piled up with work.”

Xanthous nodded with a sigh. “Unfortunately so.”

The two sat on a bench in the courtyard, staring up at the night sky. The silence was nice, it felt like someone had put a pause on the problems in the world to let the two men have a moment of peace next to each other. Xanthous glanced over at Lampton as a thought crossed his mind. “Gosh, you’re so handsome.”

Xanthous saw his red eyes in the reflection of Lampton’s hazel ones as the realisation hit. “I think I just said that out loud, didn't I?”

He responded with a wide grin. “Yeah.”

Xanthous leaned down and nestled his head on Lampton’s shoulder. He paid extra care in making sure he was keeping his flames in control so as to not hurt the head of the royal guard. The duo continued to sit in silence before hearing someone call for Lampton.

They got up and brushed off. “I suppose I’ll be seeing you next in battle?”

Lampton nodded. “We will come out of this victorious.”

“I hope so. I do not wish for everyone’s efforts to be in vain.”

“Indeed..” after a pause, Lampton walked off, turning behind before he was out of sight. “See you on the other side.”

The middle of a war is never exciting. Most are used to the constant pattern of fighting day in and day out and nothing seems interesting anymore. So it was safe to assume everyone was very eager for the final battle to commence. That would determine a winner. That would end this whole mess.

So when the literary army announced the final battle to occur that night, everyone felt the anticipation. The eagerness to be free of the tyranny that was the villains’ rule.

After hours of hard work and determination, the literary army saw its demise. Crowds of people cheered as the war came to an end. Joy could be felt all across the kingdom as every village and town celebrated this victory.

The fairy council walked around the Charming Kingdom, checking up on the residents and inspecting the casualties. As they arrived at the Palace, Xanthous heard a familiar voice call his name. Upon the sight of Sir Lampton, Emerelda looked over to the council and said, “We should head into the Palace and check on the royal family. Xanthous, why don’t you check in on the guards?”

She gave him a knowing smile as she led the rest of the council into the throne room. Xanthous prayed that his face wasn't as flushed as he felt it was. He turned to Lampton and smiled.

“We won.” The soldier had a joyous grin.

The two embraced in a hug before pulling away slightly and sharing a kiss. A tender moment for the couple. However as Xanthous looked at Lampton, he watched as the hazel eyes widened in shock. He felt himself get pushed to the side.

His sight was blurry, voices muffled. All he heard was the sound of Lampton telling him to watch out. Xanthous watched as the guard’s body was seen dropping to the ground. Rage consumed Xanthous and before he knew what had truly happened, he watched a member of the Playing Card Army fall to the ground as well. Fairy Council members, the royal guard and the royal family rushed outside to figure out why there was so much commotion.

Xanthous was by Lampton’s side. The soldier had an arrow impaled in him. He was still smiling. Xanthous cradled Lampton in his arms. At that moment, he did not care about his relationship being secretive. None of that mattered.

“Stay with me.” He hugged Lampton tightly. “Please.”

“I'm fine Sir Xanthous, really.”

“Stop saying I’m fine when you’re not.” Xanthous held his clothes close to the wound to stop any further bleeding. “It’s fine to say I’m not fine.”

Lampton felt his own breath slow down. “Perhaps..I’m not fine..”

Xanthous hated those words more. But he didn’t say it. Instead he turned to the Council members. He was met with various faces, none of which were hopeful for Lampton’s survival. “Why would you do that? You had so many years ahead of you. I’ve lived long enough.”

Lampton had a pained smile on his face. “I made a promise when I became a member of the royal guard….” He gasped for breath. “I would put my life on the line for anyone. And I intend to keep that promise. Besides, I would never regret saving your life dear.”

Xanthous took Lampton’s hand and pressed it on his forehead. “Still…”

“I appreciate all of you. Xanthous, thank you for showing me a new perspective on the world. But now I must join the others on a different side. Don’t let our story go unheard Xanthous. So many people lost their lives…they deserve to be remembered. Now, I get to protect them again.”

Those were the last words from Sir Lampton. Selfless, as expected from a top ranking member of the Charming Army. Xanthous watched as he felt Lampton go limp in his arms. He felt the tears and did not attempt to stop them.

He knew what he had to do. He learnt why this love was different from the rest. Sure, he was scared. And yes, he had seen countless deaths over the years. But he learnt through his relationship with Lampton that his purpose was to keep their legacy alive. Xanthous knew that no one would ever forget Lampton, or any of the fighters of the war for that matter, and their service. He would make sure of it. That was part of his role. And he intended to keep his promise till he took his last breath. Just like Lampton did to save him.

This was a fic i wrote for @timecma for his birthday last year (yes…i wrote character death…for a birthday present- listen i gotta stay true to my writing style alright/j). this fic took me…5? months to write mainly because it was during my writing block months right after some of my exams. have i gotten out of writing block? hahaha no. it’s unfortunately…still haunting me….some day…some day.

Anyways another land of stores related post. it’s something i’ve been able to work on slightly more recently thanks to my friends who are tlos fans cause i can get the motivation and ideas easily. and i have stuff to make for the fandom thanks to this motivation ^^

now it might actually be a while till i post next due to mock exam prep but till we meet again <3
