I feel seen
Having a really long-term hyperfixation that has since faded is terrifying yes but it's also so embarrassing. Hi I used to think about Scrimblo Splungus 25/7. Yeah, for 2 years straight. Nah, I don't think about them anymore except for with a vague sense of melancholy as I recall how they used to make me feel. Anyways this new one, Blimpkins McGee? I'm gonna think about them forever and the cycle will NOT repeat in 2 years. Trust me guys.

I don’t think we talk about this picture of Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom enough.
Look at his eyebrow. Look at his quivered lip. Look at the tears.
And I think this was during The Music of the Night, too. Erik was crying while singing about his music to Christine. He was actually crying while he sang to her.
All the fanfictions where he practically molests Christine make me so angry, because Erik is such a soft boy who’s feelings get hurt so easily and who cries while he sings to the girl he loves more than anything and who was so surprised to be kissed that his arms stuck out straight the whole time and who covered Christine with his cape when she fell asleep in his lair and who called her his Angel of Music and I just have a lot of feelings about Erik ok

Do you have any tips for how to slow down time in a story?
How to slow down time
To slow down time in your story you need to use a mix of different writing ingredients: you need different descriptions that capture the reader in the moment as well as internal monologue and different sentence structures.
Detailed Descriptions:
Sensory Details: Use the five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch to describe what the character is seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting in intricate detail.
Detailed Observations: Zoom in on small, often overlooked details. The sound a tea cup makes as it hits the ground, the way an expression on a character's face changes, the turning of heads as someone enters the room.
Slow Motion: Manipulate the time by describing how it feels like slow motion to the characters: "Time slowed down, and it felt as if the whole of humanity had decided to stop breathing for a moment."
Physical Reactions: A detailed description of the physical aspects of a scene. The movements a character makes, how their gaze turns, their breathing changes, their body begins to shake.
Psychological Aspects: Focus on the anxiety of a character looking at a clock that never seems to move, their nervousness seeping out of them
Internal Monologue:
Memories and Flashbacks: Add context by showing memories or flashbacks that relate to the situation.
Pondering: Let the character reflect on the situation, their feelings and their plan for the next steps. Let the reader explore the character's inner life.
Dialogue:
Reduced Dialogue: Dialogue brings a scene into real time. Use it thoughtfully and sparringly, with lots of inner thoughts and reactions in between.
Silence: Make use of silence between the characters which can be filled with more descriptions.
Language:
Smaller Steps: Write out each action taken, no matter how small, and focus on describing each step that happens.
Control Pacing: Use your sentence structure to create long descriptions that slow it down, and short, impactful ones to pick up the pace if needed for a moment.

if you've never engaged with a creative art on a regular basis you need to understand that it requires concerted effort to get into "the groove" to make something and every second that it takes to get into that groove causes physical pain, but the only thing worse than doing it is not doing it.

fanfic writers are so fucking awesome man. they write novel length fics that are sometimes even better than some published bestselling books written by professional writers. like fanfic writers are professional writers to me and they gift us their masterpieces for free. they give us something we can look forward to after a long day. something from which we can seek comfort when life is hard. something that can be our own little getaway. in a world of capitalism, despite everything, they give us all of these for free. like holy fuck. shout out to every fanfic writer. I wish all fanfic writers a very ‘I love you with all my heart and soul. I thank you from the bottom of my heart’

There is something deliciously funny about AI getting replaced by AI.
tl;dr: China yeeted a cheaper, faster, less environmental impact making, open source LLM model onto the market and US AI companies lost nearly 600 billions in value since yesterday.
Silicone Valley is having a meltdown.
And ChatGTP just lost its job to AI~.

Hello, it's been a while. It's the holidays so I had some time to draw! Time to knock off the rust on my fandom doodle muscles. 🖊️
Here is a bit of BBC Sherlock, bed-sharing for the new year.

So, I was rewatching Last Call at Forlini’s Bar and I noticed something I hadn’t before during the last scene at the bar.
Tumblr media
When Olivia comes in, Barba doesn’t turn to look at the door. Notice how the mirror only starts where Barba is seated? That’ll be important in a bit.
The camera angle changes and we get this shot
Tumblr media
Barba’s still doesn’t look to see who it is, yet he sighs. HE SIGHS.
It’s a heartbreaking exhale and I hadn’t noticed he did that before 😭
What’s really crazy, though? He didn’t see Olivia walk in. He couldn’t have seen her in the mirror because of its position, which mean he recognised the CADENCE of her steps.
I’m so unwell 🤧 this is probably my favourite scene in all of television. Every element of it from the acting to the lighting to the filming to the editing is so elegant, I just can’t

you all heard about not writing for the imaginary bad faith reader, which is all around good advice. now it's time for the next step, writing for the imaginary tumblr fandom. every time I open my WIP I do it for my imaginary fans. imaginary discourse. imaginary fanarts (i love each piece). imaginary shipping wars. at this point my imaginary bad faith reader might as well exist, because they don't matter compared to the imaginary hurt/comfort fics on ao3 which I'm not allowed to read as an author (and because they don't exist)

✨new chapters up✨
Eric McNally’s NHL career was spinning out of control, crushed by the secrecy of living a double life. Sam Miller’s life was empty, the perennial people-pleaser, always overextended with nothing left for himself. When Eric sustained a hit from his archrival, ending his NHL career and pitting him against the entire Maple Leafs organization, it put both of their lives on a collision course toward finding themselves— and finding love. Will Eric accept love and come out of the closet? And can Sam finally learn how to put himself first so he can claim his hardwon chance at happily ever after?
——————-
This is my take on the Eric/Sam origin story told as an alternating POV m/m hockey romance novel. This is a 70k completed work that I am going to need a bit of time to finish posting as it is my first fic!
There will be more parts to this series within the Breakaway Universe, I have another fic set during and after the movie that is almost done!

Here's a little lesson in the Tumblr algorithm, for those who don't know: the only way for a post to be spread to someone's dash, after it's already been made, is through reblogs. Likes do very little for boosting visibility. Besides adding notes so a post has a higher likelihood of appearing at the top of search results for the tags they're featured in, likes are just caches to show/store posts you've liked. They do not significantly increase the likelihood that the post will be seen by more people. The only way to ensure this is to reblog it to your own blog, so your followers will see it.
Also, this isn't Twitter. I know that on Twitter, it's largely expected for most of your profile to consist of mostly your own tweets, and not too many retweets. Tumblr is extremely different, in that the entire site is made up of shared posts. The site is designed for maybe 5% of the content on your dash to be original content at any given moment, while 95% will be reblogs from others, and that's perfectly acceptable and expected, actually.
This is all to say that, I know a lot of you come from Tik Tok or Twitter, where liking content has a direct, positive effect on the content's visibility. I know that your FYP is dictated by what gets more likes/what the people you follow like, and that Twitter shows posts your following likes on the TL. But Tumblr is extremely different. So please, don't hesitate to reblog shit on this website, especially art/writing. If you liked an artist's work, the best thing you can do for them is reblog it because simply liking it will do very little to boost their post's visibility. This doesn't just apply to art either; if there's a PSA, theory, etc., that you enjoyed and want more people to see, the only way for that to happen is to reblog.
