hi becky! i saw your little room decorating game on itchio and it's so adorable :DD i'm trying to learn godot by making a similar game right now, but since i'm a newbie it's been quite tough ToT i was trying to set up the collision detection for the furnitures in my game, but they ended up not being able to be put next to each other or behind each other like in your game :( do you have any tips or any tools i should look into to solve this? thank you so much ><
Hi hi! You’re very brave - I think any type of building game for your first game is deceptively difficult, it’s not an easy thing to create. I’m not 100% sure what the problem could be but it sounds like maybe an offset issue? Godot is very notorious for that. The solution to that is to create a wrapper object for your furniture and place the sprite inside, and then manually move the offset y up or down so the icon indicating coordinate 0,0 is at the base of the furniture, not in the center. Could also be that your collision polygons are too big and preventing the furniture from being placed next to each other.
You can feel free to hit me up on discord @tinydiorama or put the code up somewhere and shoot me a message and I can take a look! I also do have my decorating game code up on github and you can look at it, but it’s not very clean and may actually be more confusing for you: https://github.com/tinydiorama/decorating. Still, hopefully something here helps and if not, let me know!

I just played Familiar Shadows and it was so good! The subtle storytelling is so cool and I have so many questions. I love the art, the layout, the environment, basically just the whole thing. I’m kind of awkward but I just wanted to tell you I love your game! :D
wow I’m loving all the Familiar Shadows love recently, thank you! I remember very specifically wanting to make a game that rewards patience and returning to the same spots to see what’s changed. that said, I recently tried playing it for the first time since I made it and I died 3 times because I was rushing ahahahha.
for those curious you can play it here for free!
(p.s. you are not awkward at all and I appreciate you so much!)

Familiar Shadows is so, so, so good... so so good. I don't know how to explain it, I feel like it is the type of game that was made exactly for me: creepy storytelling but no jumpscares. I... I could gush about it forever. It's so good.
oh wow, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad it resonated with you, that means so much to me!
(if anyone is interested, you can find the game here, free to play!)

Hi! I really like your pixel art, would you be willing to consider selling some as cross stitch patterns on your ko-fi?
Hi! Thank you so much for your note! I actually do want to do this, as I'm an hobbyist cross stitcher myself, but I think that my designs might be a BIT intense to cross stitch... But if people are up for the challenge I can try to simplify a couple and let you take a shot at it. Are there any specific designs that you have in mind?

I loved The Keeper of the Silent Grove! What a beautiful little game, the design and atmosphere are lovely and you did an amazing job with the worldbuilding as well, you managed to make it feel so alive and intricate through just a few letters and "books"!! Although I believe I didn't connect all the dots, and I'm curious about the other endings too. Would you be keen to talk more about the world and the penpals we get to meet? :)
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words and for playing. Though the game really is up for your interpretation, I wanted to tell a story about basically being able to affect change for people you've never met and people you've never seen, and the importance of seeing them as humans worthy of love and care despite never talking to them face to face. Along with a bit of myth and mysticism thrown in of course! The big reveal is (spoilers) basically that the Brights are the same as the Shades, who have caused the plague. In other words, the gods of the world are unaware and uncaring about the pain OR pleasure they inflict upon the world. That's why it's up to us to form community and take care of each other.
I talk a bit more about the game and its endings here too, including how to get all the endings!
And for those curious, you can play it for free here!

Hi Becky I love your art and would love to know how you do things because doing things is so so hard.
haha this is so relatable, and also thank you so much for your kind words about my art. honestly I feel all the time that I’m not doing enough or getting enough done, but I’ll try to answer this for real. first of all, it helps that I’m privileged enough to have a safe, comfortable home, relatively good & managed health, and some free time. secondly, I’m not on any algorithm-based social media apps, which helps keep my energy up (social media is draining!) and my morale up too (social media is depressing!). thirdly, I just feel a lot of passion and drive to do things - it genuinely brings me intense joy and satisfaction, and I’m at my happiest when I’m making things. so, even when I’m tired, I know it’s good for me to be making things. last tip I have is - have several things you’re interested in, so if you’re in different moods or have different energy levels each day, you can pick/choose accordingly. some days when I don’t feel up to coding, I draw instead, and other days when I don’t feel like drawing I jot down ideas and write up plans on my ipad (usually while relaxing on the couch!). helps keep the train moving!
hope this answered your question a little!

I made a little decorating prototype. Nothing fancy - keep your expectations low! But it was fun to build, I learned Godot in the process, and it came out kind of cute if I do say so myself! Can't guarantee there aren't bugs but it's a fun little toybox if you've got a minute or five.
Play it here!
