I really fucking hate the phrase "you can't make this stuff up!"

Fuck you. Yes you can. People are creative and come up with wild shit all the time. You mean to say "I know this sounds like a plot contrivance, but"

Or perhaps "I could never come up with this" would be more accurate, except I hear this phrase from con artists more than anyone so maybe the secret meaning is "you could never come up with this " and that's where I want to throw hands.

like always, when Pratchett does something that seems pointless and outrageoussly silly- like have a two page scene where someone explains "Crockett" to Vimes so hard he's sent reeling though the end of the disc, the heat death of the universe it's rebirth and back to his present self this is not a made up fantasy, Pratchett is just riffing on a very real explanation of Cricket here on roundworld

Every time you think he's pulling your leg the hardest it turns out to be very real
