Desclaimer: haven’t read the novel. This is purely based on what I perceived from the live action.

One thing I really love about The Untamed is how healthy the relationship between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying is in some aspects.

I hate when male protagonists are protective in a toxic way, in a possessive “you can’t be alone or do anything on your own” kind of way. Aka. The Vampire Diaries with Elena. That’s the perfect example of how not to do it. It infantilizes the characters and sooner or later people will hate them.

In The Untamed, Lan Zhan respects Wei Ying enough to make his own decisions and he listens to him and knows him. When Jin Ling stabs WY, LZ would’ve totally killed him. But he knows he’s very important to WY and that he’s a child. When he blocks WY from him the next time they see him - in the cave- he moves away the moment WY asks him too. He’s not hurting someone important to WY and he’s not ignoring his requests.

Also, when WY wanted to act as bait so the others could leave, LZ didn’t scream at him or stopped him. He just went along with it and protected him, silently. That’s the kind of support couples should have. Not annoying, overbearing, completely nonsensical.

That’s a relationship done right.

1. Being homophobic

2. Not giving a fuck about female characters

3. Killing off characters unnecessarily and in dumb fucking stupid ways

4. Undoing years of character development and growth in 1 HOT SEC

RANDOM QUESTION OF THE UNTAMED:

But, why does Wei Wuxian gets progressively weaker?

SPOILERS:

For example, in the core scene, why did he pass out? He hadn’t use any spiritual energy. He was literally just fighting with words. Sometimes I don’t understand what losing his core means. He has different resistance to different escenarios and sometimes he’s just weak because it is plot convenient? Idk.

I need answers!

Another irrelevant post that I need to make about FEELINGS:

Sometimes I get really sad after watching a wonderful show/anime/donghua because I crave those feelings. Yes, even the sad ones. The intensity and energy all this characters use just to FEEL things is incredible.

Don’t you ever just want to be able to experience something like that? Either the “I would die for you” (not literally ofc, that’s just dramatic) for a friend, or significant other? Or to have someone to share your love for something like sports, art, novels, etc.

They just leave a hole in your heart, a craving, a need to belong, but irl you just shut down, push anyone who wants to get close away and seclude yourself in your room for days...

Are we just romanticizing relationships? Are these expectations too unrealistic? Is this a very inmmature way of thinking about love and belonging? I don’t know. I’m 23, had a relationship for 6 years, broke up with him, and I still haven’t figured it out...

Either way, hopefully, one day we can identify ourselves with the characters, not because we envy them, but because we finally understand them after being able to feel...
