The last he’d expected to come across would have been Byakuya, the one all too akin to his formalities and state of being to even pay him the slightest bit of attention half the time. Once he’d spoke to him then, he raised his own nearly imperceptible brow at the regal Shinigami. He scoffed, a slight smirk playing his lips. “Eh?” He took a step forward as if to become threatening, or at the least show Byakuya’s lack of height compared to himself. “It a crime to walk around? Just thought I’d get out.” Although it seemed that he would have had less than innocent intentions of coming around this part of the barracks, he honestly had no other reason other than that he was wondering.

Sanity? Sorry, but I don’t remember having such a useless thing in the first place.

Zaraki’s near death experience had left him a bit dazed, unknowing that such an encounter would ever arrest him so early on his life—although he was at an age much older than others expected. He’d gotten news the scientist of all Shinigami had wanted to speak with him and without question the nearly beast of man knew easily what he wanted. He knew the blue-haired captain all too well. He’d sighed, yet had not spoken a word. He’d simply tell Kurotsuchi when he got sick of answering his questions and leave. He was tired and worn, having just gotten his abilities back, pondering the thoughts of death in a haze. He looked to the scientist when he began to circle him and stop repeatedly; looking him in the eye once he’d began the questioning. I wish to know what was so special about it that made even you fall – particularly after the fact of the matter being exposed that it wasn’t the leader. He grimaced slightly, in one of the worst moods as he looked to him without distraction. “How the hell am I s’posed to know?” His voice was a bit more hoarse than usual though it hardly seemed to disturb his speech. He accepted death with ease, knowing that if he stayed alive, just as he’d told Ikkaku, it was only meant for him to grow stronger and defeat—kill—the one that had sought after him. He clenched his fists and loosened them twice, glancing around the room with heavy breathes. “Don’t feel like bein’ questioned right now, Kurotsuchi.” His voice had deepened to a serious tone. Although any other time when he’d carried himself to the Shinigami’s laboratory he would have teased and questioned him, played with his mind and refused him simply out of amusement, Zaraki found himself seriously attempting to avoid the questioning. It was nothing he wanted a part of now, not so closely after the experiment. It was nothing short of aggravating. Finally he looked back to him.
it's rapture, but it's a different style
There was word that the 11th captain had almost perished. News of this had no emotional effect on the scientist, as he was well aware of both the fatalities and casualties of war. It would have been his own fault if he had died. He did not, though, thankfully for him. Admittedly, there was a faint tinge of disappointment from the scientist’s side, but there was not much he could do about that. While various experiments would have benefited both him and his suppressed anger towards the man for past happenings between them, he had to accept quite the opposite. Zaraki was alive, and this gave him the right to survey and interrogate him if he wished.
That was he planned to do, as well. Whether it would go rather smoothly or end violently was up to the second party - the war-hungry demon himself. For Mayuri, however, this was a rather unnecessary question. It wasn’t much for him to ponder over, because he was aware of the brute’s current mentality. He was alive, but that did not mean he would be in the best condition. This could and would be easily remedied, though. All he needed was a slight push, and the scientist would be in complete and total control over this seemingly invincible man. His eyes flickered up to the open door of his laboratory, having forgotten to shut it when he was ushering the man hastily inside.
His eyes then moved back towards the hulking figure he was surprised about that even managed to fit through the door. That was a technicality now, and he had to distract himself from it. His eyes narrowed as he stood in front of the man. There had been attempts at making him sit down, but they were all rejected so there was no further use in pushing at it. Instead, he settled for standing and walking around him in a circle every so often if the mood called for it. Finally he dared to speak, almost casually so, “Your fight with the Quincy.” Thinning his eyes to tight slits that implied nothing more but dangerous curiosity, he continued, “I wish to know what was so special about it that made even you fall - particularly after the fact of the matter being exposed that it wasn’t the leader.”
