Finished my rewatch of s2 yesterday! Tbh I actually really liked it I will formulate all of my thoughts after I finish my rewatch of s1 (also if you're the blog that sent me a few questions a few weeks ago, I see you, but I prefer to finish my s1 rewatch before answering!)

there are some matsu fans that deny the codependency and claim anyone that interprets them as trying to sabotage one another are saying they're abusive, buuut they don't seem to hesitate to point out how totty was an abuser for lying and treating his brothers like scum in the sutaba incident. it's also controversial to state the matsus have flaws in some discords or you get accused of thinking neurodivergent people have character flaws. never mind if you're nd too.

Omg tbh I personally don't see a lot of Todomatsu full on hate (I remember seeing it a lot back in 2016 though) there is just a lack of it.

Man I'm so sad you have found such shitty discord servers, but I do agree that the fandom puts the matsunos on a pedestal they don't deserve at all. If you watch osomatsu san and think the matsunos are genuinely good people then I honestly feel bad for you.

People shitting on Totty bc of the futaba incident is so funny though. Bc like. Todomatsu KNEW what his brothers would do if they found out. Like. Out of all the shit you can shit on Totty for, that must be the least problematic.

The matsunos themselves are problematic by default, like. All of them. They spend their days betting money they don't own and eating food they can't afford. They're creepy towards women on the street and are generally your millennial unemployed men who would complain their teachers didn't like them lmao.

And I LOVE that. The show constantly makes you laugh at their dumbness and I enjoy some unapologetically shitty men when done right.

I'm not gonna give a big comment on the neurodivergent part because I myself am not, but claiming that neurodivergent folks aren't allowed to have flaws, do bad choices or be shitty people is well. Ableist. You are denying them of something that is inherently human. Every person has flaws and has the ability to be shitty. Denying that is stupid and also degradating for the people who work towards being better human beings.

I feel like im late to the party but i love people pointing out the difference in how totty and kara get treated in the fandom. I think even before season 2 totty got the short end of the stick a lot (pachinko police, what they did after he told them he was embarrassed to have them show up at his job, etc) but like no one outside of like. Totty fans ever talk about how fucked up it is. Like im a totty stan so ill admit i think its funny but like at the same time why is it that when kara get bullied its “omg matsu evil moments” but when totty gets bullied its some how “deserved”

Yeah! I understand how you feel perfectly! I'm not saying that Totty is a perfect guy (I've already talked about how important it is that all the brothers are equal) and every matsu has moments in which they get "bullied" by the rest but the fact that the reason Totty is bullied for being well. Functional? For having a job or wanting valentine chocolates? Holding a girl's hand? That IS meant to show that the brothers ARE petty and mean and don't actually want each other to be better. Like it's not a mistake from the show (Actually props to the writers for not letting themselves change the screen time the least liked characters get) but a mistake on interpreting the source material. LIKE of course Todomatsu wants to separate from his brothers lmao I would too

Oh I’m gonna JSNJXN I’m going to talk a bit about it now, but once I finish rewatching s1 and 2 I want to make a long post talking abt it SO

I have read a few times people talking about how Oso-san works in an stablished status quo. HOWEVER. this is like this because of an in universe reason and irl reason. If any of the brothers did get a work, or did get a girlfriend, that would simply break the series. Oso san bases a LOT on the fact that no brother is really better than the others, even if each brotehr has different qualities: - Osomatsu is the most shameless one in his NEET antics, which probably saves him from a lot of embarassment - Karamatsu is genuinely kind with his brothers in numerous occasions

- Choromatsu is the “responsible” one and genuinely tries to be better, even if he fails - Ichimatsu is way more calm than most of his brothers - Jyushimatsu does a lot of physical activities - Todomatsu is able to talk to women (And have friends) and tries (And is able to!) to get a job All of these qualities give them a chance to be BETTER than what they are. They’re a start that could lead them to become better people. So, why aren’t they able? Why isn’t Choromatsu able to get a job interview, Ichimatsu could maybe work on a pet shop, and why isn’t Todomatsu able to get a date if he’s able to talk to women amicably? (Putting it under a read more for suspense and because this is already very long)

WELL, friends, in my opinion, the reason is simple. It’s each other. It’s the rest of the brothers who hold each other back. One of the themes of the show is that at the end of the day, they’re all scum. There’s a lot of studies on group mindset and how it affects the individual, and no one can deny it has affected the matsunos a LOT. Their big appeal throughout all of their lives is that they’re together! Would anyone really watch osomatsu-san if it was only about Choromatsu? If suddenly Todomatsu had a girlfriend or a job, what would that mean for the rest? Totty suddenly would have an “upper” hand in their dynamic. He would have something to brag about, something that truly makes him different from the rest. What does that mean for his brothers? What would that mean for him? Of course, this never comes through, it CAN’T. The rest of his brothers don’t want him to stop being a virgin- to stop being like THEM-because theywould have to face that they’re not a unit of people, and that they all have the capacity to leave (Aka. what happens in s1ep24). On another side, the six of them being in the same state allows them to enter a vicious circle of self pity and not allowing themselves or each others to grow. They need each other to be in the same state as them to maintain their useless neets status quo. Because of that, it’s highly possible that none of them make any breakthrough dating wise or job wise until the finale of the series, and since it seems to be Pierrot’s cash cow, it won’t be for a long while

YEAH totally! in general the s1 fandom was VERY uh. Romanticising? That’s not the word, but I can’t really express it any other way. People hated the brothers for being mean to kara and put all of his funny characteristics down for an “angst” machine.

I really understand why so many people like him! Out of all the brothers, he’s the one who was always trying to be extra nice to them and gain their approval, often with bad results, and I can see why some might have connected with that! But most of fandom content either made him an extremely sad character or a genuinely cool character and. Have we watched the same series?

ANYWAYS I’m derailing. I don’t think anyone in the fandom is oppressed no mattering how weird their taste is. Victimizing yourself only makes others uncomfortable.

I'm not complaining and I definitely appreciate the angst value but it simply hits different than Karamatsu's in season 1. Like yeah the where he's left behind in the cat scene is the sad/funny balance that ososan carries very well but both of Totty's scenes (The one where he admits that he does want chocolates for valentines and where none of his brothers gave him chocolate at the end of the episode) in the Valentines episode just hit where it hurts for me. Again just a thought since Totty doesn't have the fan base Kara does and I don't care for Kara like I enjoy Totty, so it adds up.

I have NO clue from where you took that I hated Karamatsu LMAO I don’t, just to be clear! But he DOES have a huge fanbase and Todomatsu simply doesn’t! Out of all the matsus  Karamatsu is the one I related to the less for some reason, and it’s a big tendency for me to feel at least neutral on the most popular character lol Anyways. My post was how Todomatsu and Karamatsu have a similar position as the brothers escape goat in their respective season, with Todomatsu being hated by his brothers for knowing how to hold a girl’s hand. Tragic :(
