okay y'all, i know you guys don’t really seem to like the new heathers tv show that much yet, but I would like you guys to consider what this show could possibly hold for the heathers universe!
• Heather C could have a full backstory, showing her family life as well as the reasons why she acts the way she does, maybe even a redemption arc!
• Heather M might struggle with her attraction to girls and discover more about herself + sexuality
• Heather D could finally be more than just bulimia and a red hair band! we could know finally more about who he is, and what kind of life he lives!
• JD might have an accurate portrayal of mental illness + abusive homelife, with his character slowly descending into a more chaotic mindset as the show goes on, not just having him reduced to “Psycho Trenchcoat Kid”
• Veronica might deal with some mental illness herself, and she hopefully won’t be the stereotypical white blonde female protagonist who doesn’t get consequences to her actions
• Betty. Finn. Finally. Having. A. Full. Character. Brings. Me. So. Much. Life. Since we didn’t get to know much about the movie Betty, seeing what the directors make Betty become will be very exciting for me.
• Kurt and Ram being “modern” high school assholes who get away with all sorts of shit because they’re on the football team, but they eventually get caught.
i know that this show isn’t the heathers we all know and love, but i encourage you guys to give this show a chance. I know a lot (maybe all) of my ideas won’t be in the show, but they are possibilities for what it could be. we won’t know anything until we can watch a couple episodes and then decide for ourselves wether or not it’s a good show.

Kill the mentality that a female character is “weak” if she is in love with a man. Love is not weakness.
Also kill the mentality that a female character is “weak” if she is kind and sweet. Kindness is not weakness either.
It is worth noting that this only appears to be an issue with fans if the person a female character is in love with is male. If she is in love with a woman, fans on tumblr will go on and on about how great she is, no matter what shape the romantic subplot takes.
I hate the pervasive attitude on tumblr that heterosexuality devalues female characters—and conversely that being a lesbian makes a female character stronger and more admirable.
If a character’s sexuality alters your opinion of her that much—for better or for worse—you aren’t that big a fan of the character.
I get that representation matters, but it is completely unrelated to the merit or value of characters.
A female character being in love doesn’t show weakness at all you’re right, in fact it takes a lot of strength. Love is something that can be powerful, it can be dangerous when messed with and as one well known anime female character once said, “Love is a hurricane”.
Love is never weak. Self-sacrifice, gentleness, and love are not dependency, weakness, or insecurity.
Can we also kill the idea that female passivity is inherently weak? In situations where a girl is physically disadvantaged it can be very strategic.
Also the mentality that if a female character likes the color pink or to wear dresses she can’t be strong and kick butt. Using the dislike of “girly” things as the indicator that your female is a powerful warrior or assassin is a cop out and feeds stereotypes. Not that she has to like pink and dresses just don’t use the dislike of them solely as your tool for her appearing tough.
Agreed! So many lovely female characters get so much hate over this bullshit mentality and it makes me really angry… That’s not feminism and empowering women! That’s misogyny and intolerance!
Kill the mentality that a female character is “weak” if she has feminine interests. Femininity is not a weakness.
Kill the mentality that a female character is “weak” if she doesn’t enjoy fighting and does not actively fight others
Kill the mentality that a female character becomes less important once she’s in a relationship with a man.
Kill misogyny and internalized misogyny with fire.
