I’m not super involved in my favorite fandoms anymore because they started to creep me out and that makes me sad. Like I love fanfics, and simping, and all the fun fandom stuff but a lot of my favorite fandoms are kinda annoying. Like with Haikyuu everyone portrays Hinata as an innocent little cinnamon roll who knows absolutely nothing about sex and it’s like bro the dude’s in HIGH SCHOOL he’s gonna know about sex! He can be sweet and kind whilst knowing of the existence of sex! I also left because I felt personally creeped out since a lot of the people were adults fantasizing about sex with some of the characters who’re minors in their first year of high school, and as an aroace minor that was just a no for me. It just felt very uncomfortable and heavily sexualized when I just wanted to talk about an amazing anime about a volleyball team trying to win the nationals with teamwork and my favorite ship. Like can I get some non romantic/sexual headcanons? Anywhere? All of them are just “I bet he does THIS during sex” or “this would be your first date” and it’s not that I think those things should go away completely, you do what you do, but can it maybe not be the only fan content? I’m very tired.
My other problem is with ships in fandom altogether. Yes, I ship kyotana, the only hetero ship. That isn’t awful. I also ship asanoya. Can I not be blacklisted and ridiculed and shamed for liking two people in a relationship. Chill tf out please.

i’ve seen people claim that the Final Agni Kai, in music and lighting and direction, is coached in romantic subtext and direction, and honestly… I do not see it? I do not see it at ALL.
For one thing, the focus in that fight, initially, is NOT on Katara and Zuko. Nor is it done in a way to focus attention on Zuko and anyone else.
It’s a sad, dramatic battle. It’s melancholy, with an undertone of inevitability. There’s nothing romantic in its subtext: its about the two scions of the Fire Nation, representing each way it could go, a fight for their nation’s future and the shape of its soul.
And, it’s about Azula’s final crash in her descent, and Zuko doing the impossible from his perspective and actually fighting her with a chance of winning. It’s the final straw for Azula; realizing that with Zuko learning the styles of the other nations, she can’t beat him. Zuko, the weakling. Zuko, the one who never deserved to even live in their father’s eyes. Zuko is able to beat her, this last shred of a self-image based on domination and power.
Consider the subtext of HOW Zuko fights her. He uses sweeping leg movements that send blasts that send her off-course, rendering her power useless for all its strength: that’s an Airbending style. The way he turns her power against herself: that is Waterbending. He uses the techniques, the skills of the other elements and beats her with techniques she can’t match. It’s a perfect metaphor for how he has grown, and she is stuck in the hateful stagnancy of the Fire Nation.
And again, when Azula breaks the rules to target Katara in a move she knows Zuko will take the hit for, it’s not coached in a romantic manner between Zuko and Katara. Remember: at this point, they barely know each other. They have exchanged words in, at most, maybe twenty episodes? Almost certainly fewer, and most of those have been threats or passive aggressive sniping. Only within the last few episodes have they become friends.
In fact, I would argue that making it romantic cheapens the impact of Zuko being nearly killed by the lightning. If he only would have done it for someone he was in love with… well, that makes his redemption arc less meaningful. That would be a selfish act, as opposed to a selfless one: its important that he takes the hit for a friend, and not someone he’s in love with, because it signifies just how far he’s come. Going from someone who attacked a girl’s village just like the rest of his colonizing nation, to someone who could have died saving her. That as far as he knew in the moment, he would have died.
Ultimately the whole fight is not about romantic subtext; it’s a tragic battle between siblings that turns into a desperate struggle for survival and ultimately underscores how they are changing the world, given the cultural context between his people oppressing hers. Making it about romance ignores the bigger picture, and puts focus on the wrong stakes.

The appalling travesty that was BBC’s Sherlock has infested the Sherlock Holmes fandom like a malignant tumour so I want you all to know how awesome the OG literary Holmes was:
The literary Sherlock Holmes was an autistic coded character before people knew what autism was.
The literary Sherlock Holmes was an explicitly aromantic character before people had a word for that.
Literary Holmes solved mysteries not merely for the intellectual stimulation but also out of a genuine desire to do good. He cared deeply about every client. HE WAS NOT A HIGH-FUNCTIONING SOCIOPATH! He could definitely be insensitive and blunt but he was not callous or unfeeling.
Literary Sherlock threatened to beat a guy who was being creepy with his own stepdaughter.
Literary Sherlock learned to grow past his misogyny after a woman outsmarted him.
In particular, he was always respectful to Mrs Hudson, never belittling or talking down to her (the otherwise enjoyable Guy Ritchie films screw this up too). In fact, they got along so well that they were actually a very popular ship back in the day.
Literary Holmes would NEVER call Watson an idiot. He was his only friend who he loved and respected, even if he did get frustrated with him sometimes. He didn’t need to belittle others to feel powerful.
Literary Holmes and Watson broke into a corrupt man’s house and witnessed him being murdered by a woman he was blackmailing. They knew exactly who she was but they let her get away because they were chaotic good like that.
Literary Holmes had HUMILITY: something a smug prig like Steven Moffat will never understand. He could be arrogant but he had a sense of humour and was willing to admit when he was wrong. And he was wrong sometimes because he was a flawed human being, not some gross male power fantasy.
Literary Holmes respected the working class and was often disdainful of the rich. In Victorian England!
Literary Holmes indirectly caused the death of a guy who abused (and implicitly molested) his daughters and he didn’t give a single fuck about it.
At the end of the series, Holmes retires to Sussex to keep bees. Beekeepers are awesome.
