you might start getting a lot of asks from me Im so sorry LMAO its just that Im barely able to speak with people abt this and Im lowkey terrified of posting my stuff myself bc of fakeclaimers and other not nice ppl

You're so good!! I'm always happy to talk to someone about these things. But please don't be scared of posting on your own blog! If someone gives you trouble, block and forget. You are valid. Your experiences are valid. Your voice deserves to be heard.

Im so thankful for my bangs bc one of my most frequent motor tics makes me repeatedly raise my eyebrows and I dont wanna be seen as flirting or something (some people see that as such iirc) and my bangs hide that jgksjfkskbfksnfk (thats just my preference)
I dont get out of my house at all anyway (Im very disabled) but still
- MSpainted
Haha love that. Tho I think if you explained it to people it would be fine. Or it could be interpreted as just making a silly face. But it’s nice to not have to deal with a reaction at all!
I totally feel you. I work, but I rarely have the spoons to go out.

ur blog is a huge comfort to me bc none of our family members take our tics seriously, even the ones that hurt, and for the largest time I thought I was faking and I felt ashamed for bwing like this bc in my mind, I was like "this is ridiculous, I obviously control this, why do I still do it?" even tho I DID NOT. but ur blog makes me feel better and is helping me accept myself
anyways, back then I used to call my tics something like "puppet strings" bc I didnt want to call them tics lmao

Thank you so much for taking the time to message me. I am so glad to hear that this blog has helped you 🥺 That’s the whole reason I created it, really.
I’m so sorry to hear that your family doesn’t take you seriously when it comes to tics. I’m not sure what your situation is, but if you’re in any way able to see a specialist who can help you, I’d definitely recommend it. I’m a huge advocate for ticcing rather than holding them back, but when tics are painful it’s a different story. My personal advice is to try and relieve the urge by doing a different, non-painful tic. But I am not a doctor, and you know your body better than anyone.
I totally understand the feeling of shame. It can feel so frustrating to not have control. And even worse when you think you should have control. I’m so glad you’ve been able to accept that you tic, that it’s involuntary, and that that’s okay!!
“Puppet strings” is SUCH a good way to describe it! Sometimes it really does feel like an unseen force is jerking you every which way. What a great metaphor to help explain to others!
Sending love, MSpainted. Feel free to reach out any time.

Really didn't need my friend back home emotionally kneecapping me by going "have you heard Lewis Capaldi's new song" the day after I just did a new and very intensive form of trauma therapy that left me feeling gutted and hollow and like maybe, actually, there's nothing left of me but the trauma and I'm just a shambling mass of pain that needs to be excised except I'm tired I'm so tired I can't keep doing this, I can't...
Only to then get smacked in the face in the group chat with a very raw Scottish accent scream-singing, "I'm going to get up and try if it's the last thing I do. I've still got something to give, though it hurts sometimes. I'm going to get up and live, until the day that I die, I swear to God I'll survive."
The universe is not subtle.

Talking of disability aids, I did get this cool spoon recently which you can use without any grip at all. It has a long handle which can be bent to fit on your arm and once you get it right it's really quite effective.
At the moment it lets me about half a meal without help (apart from putting it on) in certain situations with my arm supported, and I can even use it with my hand splints on
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ID two photos showing an adaptive spoon with a long, curled grey handle. In the first Photo it’s is lying on a tray next to a bowl of rice and an adapted mug. In the second it's been around echos wrist while they eat rice sat in bed with their arm supported by a pillow / end ID
( the company I got it from it's called Active hands)

Shane Fistell writes about having Tourettes and the isolation that comes with it. I recommend watching the short but powerful documentary that is linked in the article.

they weren't even trying to write it as that but this is genuinely the best description of premonitory urge ive ever heard
Tumblr media
especially when its sensory tics that just sit no matter how much you try to get them to go away
sometimes you find the deepest understanding for the concepts you struggle to explain in the worm episode of a horror podcast I guess

One thing I’ve noticed as a Tourette’s creator is that the (AMAB) men that I follow/am mutuals with that have TS get far less “fakeclaiming” and “hate” than the woman and AFAB folks. Young AFAB folks getting it the worst. I think it goes back to the idea that girls and queer folks (esp young ones) are more attention seeking and manipulative than AMAB men 🤢

I knew someone once who had a constant tic that was basically just them rolling their head and going nya. You know. The Japanese work for meow. Like a cat.
And people kept asking them about it so to combat this they started wearing t-shirts with giant pictures of anime girls on them and they don’t even watch anime but it worked. People were just like oh yeah of course you’d say nya like a weaboo cat carry on

Reminder that tics from Tourettes and tic disorders are brief movements and sounds.
If you're experiencing prolonged wrist/foot/facial contractures (bending and tightening), its likely n o t caused by a tic and should be evaluated by a professional.

I developed a very LOUD and high pitched tic at 2:55am last night. Luckily I was able to slowly stop doing it, but I’m pretty sure I woke up someone in the house. I barely ever have vocal tics and never so inconvenient ughhhhh. Thank god it didn’t re-emerge in the morning or during work 😩
