Wherever I may intend, I always end up in the mountains! πŸŒ„πŸŽ‘πŸ“· It's not just me, there are tons of mountain-lovers around the globe & all of us somehow end up in the mountains! Maybe it's the fresh air, the happy people, the clean environment, the immense beauty, the pure nutrition or the myriad of reasons people associate themselves with! There are always more mountains to see than the reasons to go; and this New Years Eve, my reason is to be at a quiet place, far away from the roads & the villages, with a handful of friends and cameras & start the coming year with a wild camp & a mega-bonfire! πŸ”₯πŸŽ‡πŸŽ„β›ΊπŸŽ₯ Here's a #longexposure from the last time I was in Parvati Valley (October 2016), playing around with lights near the Riverside! ➿🌠 Inviting all the travel-nature-photography-enthusiasts who are seeking a break from the normal & looking for a peaceful way to start 2017! DM for more updates, we're a small group of friends with similar interests & spending a week in the mountains is always a good idea, feel free to join! πŸ˜† #newyearseve #welcome2017 #mountainlovers #parvativalley (at Parvati Valley)

'I wonder how you don't WONDER..!! I wonder how you pass from the MYSTERY of this whole existence every day... I wonder how you don't see how the NATURE around us is completing a full circle effortlessly with such beauty... I wonder how you can't Listen to the silence of the mountains that is so LOUD... I wonder how you are not just enchanted by the DEPTH of life every tree has around... I wonder how you stop yourself from dancing when it RAINS... as if the whole existence is celebrating... I wonder how you can't listen to the MUSIC of the flowing river and the birds flying around... I wonder how you sleep at night when all your WORDS and ACTIONS differ... I wonder how you claim to know the OTHER when you know nothing about your-self... I wonder how you don't take every day as an opportunity to TRAVEL and EXPLORE little more of the inner and outer world... I wonder how you become so sure that you LOVE when your love changes with circumstances... I wonder how you go on talking when all your words are just borrowed and are not from your own unique EXPERIENCE.... I wonder how you miss the godliness in the INNOCENCE of a child and you run for godliness in temples... I wonder how you confine your LOVE into cups when you know that real LOVE is like an ocean... I wonder how you say that you are HAPPY when all your actions are against with what your heart longs for.... I wonder how FALSE happiness is accepted just to ignore TRUE sadness... I wonder how you don't WONDER..!!' πŸ“ by Mee Ra πŸ“· by Vipin Kumar Pal Tso Kar September 2016 #ladakh #mountainlake #blackandwhite #landscape #travel #monochromeindia (at Tso Kar)

Expressing my gratitude to the ever-warming #FireπŸ”₯ - Thanks for all the warmth in those cold camping nights, Thanks for all the food you heated up when the hunger strikes, Thanks for keeping the animals away in the wild Thanks for fuelling the passion from the inside Thanks for everything! πŸ”₯ Thiksay Gustor's denouement was purifying and disturbing at the same time! The word β€˜Gustor’ means β€˜sacrificing the 29th date. Two days of zealous festivities & colorful mask-dances came-down to intense ending where the leader were seen throwing/burning the masks in the huge fire outside the premises. During the festival, there are early morning prayers & after the festival is concluded, there is a distribution of the sacrificial cake, also known as the Torma during a ceremony called β€˜Argham’ or β€˜klling’. The leader of the Black Hat dancers does this distribution, marking the end of the festival and commemorating the victory of good over bad.πŸ”― Super πŸ“· by @vipinkumar_pal, November 2016 #fire #thanksgiving #thiksayfest #ladakh #monastery (at Thiksay Monastery)

Tsultrim Allione described the sound: "It is a long, deep, whirring, haunting wail that takes you out somewhere beyond the highest Himalaya peaks and at the same time back into your mother's womb." πŸ“πŸ“£πŸŽΆ The Tibetan horn (dungchen; literally: "dharma trumpet") is a long trumpet or horn used in Tibetan Buddhist and Mongolian buddhist ceremonies. It is the most widely used instrument in Tibetan Buddhist culture. It is often played in pairs or multiples, and the sound is compared to the singing of elephants. πŸ“· by @vipinkumar_pal πŸ’™ #thiksayfest #ladakh #monastery #tibetanhorn #music (at Thiksay Monastery)

The first dance/cham of Thiksay Gustor was initiated by a group of 4 Lamas dressed up in traditional clothing. All four monks were wearing the same mask - believed as the four children of the laughing Buddha - merrily dancing around the Monastery courtyard. The celebrations intensified the energies around the premises & soon the spectators found themselves deeply involved in the synchronized dance & music of the festival. πŸ“£πŸŽπŸŽΆ Another festive story by @vipinkumar_pal who just came after shooting from Thiksay! πŸ“· November 2016 #thiksayfest #ladakh #monastery #maskdance (at Thiksay Monastery)

An enjoyable 25 kms drive towards Leh->Manali highway, there comes this architectural wonder - Thiksay Monastery - known for its aesthetic resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, it is the largest gompa in central Ladakh, notably containing a separate set of buildings for female renunciates that has been the source of significant recent building and reorganisation. The annual festival held in the monastery precincts is known as the Gustor ritual, which is held from the 17th to 19th day of the ninth month of the Tibetan calendar (October–November). Sacred dances such as the mask dance or Cham Dance are performed as a part of this ritual. πŸ™Œ Coming up are festive stories by @vipinkumar_pal who just came after shooting from Thiksay! πŸ“· November 2016 #thiksayfest #ladakh #monastery #monochrome (at Thiksay Monastery)
