Spring Is In The Air
It’s been a long and gloomy winter (at least here in NJ) but Treecyler is coming out of hibernation to gear up for the busy planting season ahead. With over a million seedlings pledged, 2016 was a record setting year. Thanks to our brand partners and all of the people who participated across the country, our reforestation partners have their work cut out for them. Stay tuned for updates from the field as we check in on the progress!

Partners Planting Trees All Around the World
Green trees and green thumbs!
Spring is (almost) in the air and many of partners are gearing up to begin their planting seasons. We’ve worked with many different tree projects around the world, and we are truly impressed with the work that has been done for each and every one of them. Your hard work and dedication is making the world a greener and more beautiful place.
We’ve included some pictures of last year’s tree planting events from a few of our project sponsors. Check out all the great work in action!
Kentucky Division of Forestry
This program supports several projects within Kentucky, including Reforest the Bluegrass, Reforest Frankfort and Reforest Northern Kentucky. Below is a picture from a tree-planting event that took place the last June.

Alberta Reforestation Conservation In partnership with landowners and local government, this project plants trees to help restore areas of the Beaverlodge River degraded by livestock grazing and clearing of the land. The picture below comes from a green event held last year with students from their local high school. They learned everything from tree planting to watershed management!

Eden Reforestation Projects – Madagascar
This project hires impoverished villagers to collect baby Mangrove trees and plant them on estuary mud flats during low tide. They plant about 1.4 million mangroves each month and are looking to double that number in the next year or so. The picture below is from a tree-planting event held last spring.

New Jersey Tree Foundation
New Jersey lost half a million trees as a result of Superstorm Sandy. As New Jersey continues to rebuild, the New Jersey Tree Foundation has been actively planting trees to restore our community and urban forests. The picture below shows the type of trees they plant for their a new project they started last year called Reforest the Garden State.

The 4-H Million Trees Project – Ghana
The 4-H Million Trees Project gives 4-H youth in rural Ghanan villages the opportunity to learn about trees in class, and raise 10,000 seed nurseries in an outside science lab. Trees are planted at the school and in the community. The picture below shows two students from a tree-planting event held at their local high school.

From North America to Africa, all the way to Australia, this community understands how important it is to continue the growth of our environment. We cannot thank you enough for doing what you do.
Keep Planting!

Project Spotlight: Trees for Food Project

Maybe it's because it's lunchtime, but it seems like a good time to discuss the Trees for Food Project in El Salvador.
All joking aside, this project is incredibly important to the people of El Salvador. In recent years, the small country of El Salvador has experienced a high-rate of deforestation, especially in the last half century.
This community-led project, which is available as on the Treecycler map thanks to our partnership with the incredible organization Trees, Water & People, directly benefits rural families and farmers.
Between 1990 and 2010, El Salvador lost 23.9% of its natural forest cover, according to Trees, Water & People, which is around 900 square kilometers. This deforestation has put a huge strain on its most important resources: soil, water, and trees.
The Trees for Food Project plants fruit-bearing trees native to the El Salvador. The food produced from these trees include a variety of vitamin packed fruits, coffee, cacao, and nut. They provide added household nutrition and income. The families and farmers participating in the program learn the value of fruit trees, which helps deepen their appreciation of trees and their environmental benefits.

Project Spotlight: Haiti
When you redeem your Treecycler codes, the seedlings planted help some very important projects around the globe. Over the next few weeks, we'd like to take some time to spotlight some of them. Today's project spotlight: Haiti.

Our reforestation partner, the amazing Trees for the Future, serves to aid the country of Haiti. Thanks to Trees for the Future, we are happy to have Haiti on the Treecycler map!
Haiti and Hurricane Sandy
Before it even hit the shores of the U.S., Hurricane Sandy pummeled the country of Haiti, inundating the country with three days of continuous rain. Haiti's already fragile environment and lack of forest cover led to massive mud slides and unprecedented destruction.
When redeeming your Treecycler codes, we encourage you to learn more about the Haiti project and to consider planting your tree at this location.
Trees are crucially important to the future of Haiti's environment and its people. - David The, Trees for the Future Interim Executive Director
How Can Trees Help?
Trees can help this — and our many other reforestation projects — in so many ways!
Trees can replenish forest cover that was destroyed by the recent storms. Fast-growing trees can create windbreaks to better protect homes and farms against future storms. The trees planted can also produce sustainable charcoal that can be used by the people of Haiti for cooking and heating. Trees can even provide construction materials to repair damaged homes and community buildings.
By redeeming your code in the Haiti reforestation project, you can help us reach our Treecycler goal of 5,000 trees this project.

Sunshine, Watermelon...And Trees!

The end of August means soaking up the last rays of sunshine, eating the last of the watermelon, and…the start of new planting seasons!
Starting in September, many of our partner projects will embark on new areas around the world to plant more seeds donated by you.
From the bottom of our hearts, (and the tops of trees everywhere!) we want to thank you for your donations and support. There have been so many of you taking the time to give back to the planet, and (although we might be biased) it’s looking pretty good!
Keep up the great work, and again, thank you for planting trees.

Some Fun Tree Facts
When you plant one tree, just look at the return you get on your investment —
Over the course of 50 years, a single tree can generate:
Produce $31,250 of oxygen
Generate $62,000 worth of air pollution control
Recycle $37,500 worth of water
Control $31,500 worth of soil erosion*
That’s pretty good by any standards, right?
Plant a tree today and you will make a lasting impact on the future tomorrow.

Pennsylvania and Kentucy join the Treecycler Map
We are thrilled to announce the addition of two new reforestation projects to the Treecycler map. By partnering with Green Forests Work, we now have the ability to make a difference in the Appalachia regions of Pennsylvania and Kentucky.
With many areas of Appalachia affected by non-native species and heavy compaction from coal-mining, GFW has reclaimed the damaged land and is looking to make a difference. Through Treecycler donations and the scientific expertise of the Green Forests Works, we can rebuild the land to its pristine condition.

Our mission is to plant high-value native trees to the regions such as: White Oak, Northern Red Oak, Black Oak, Chestnut Oak, Black Locust, Black Cherry, Sugar Maple, and American Chestnut. By supporting these damaged forests, our donations will help build a multi-use resource, with the chance to establish economic opportunities and enhance the local and global environment.

We look forward to working with Green Forests Works in supporting the beautiful forests of Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

Planting The Seed of Knowledge
Throughout the year, Treecycler has had the privilege in partnering with some amazing tree foundations from all across the country. By joining forces, tree donations have been made to support a countless number of reforestation projects from New Jersey to Alabama, Missouri to California.
Most recently, Treecycler teamed up with an organization from Lake Tahoe, California.
On May 17th, Treecycler sponsored an event with The Sugar Pine Foundation. Volunteers along with 150 Adler Creek Middle School 7th graders planted 251 trees in the Tahoe Basin.

The students were treated to a full day of fun, dedicated to Mother Earth. Along the tree plantings, the students were educated on the importance of forestry, water quality, and wildlife.

With the help of students and volunteers, the event was a great success.

Treecycler is excited to monitor the beauty that's sure to bloom in the Tahoe Basin! We look forward to teaming up with The Sugar Pine Foundation in the future.

A Little Bit Of Help, Goes a Long Way.
In celebration of Arbor Day, Treecycler and the NJ Tree Foundation* teamed up to make an earth friendly impact in the local communities of New Jersey.
On April 27, 2013, volunteers from surrounding areas gathered to plant tree saplings in pots at a local tree farm in Newark, NJ.

Students, residents, and volunteers from Newark and the Sparta Green Team joined forces to pot almost 2,000 trees.

Thanks to the efforts of all parties, the Arbor Day celebration was a great success! With several tree saplings potted, the communities of New Jersey can look forward to a greener future!
Treecycler was honored to help fund this event with The NJ Tree Foundation, and look forward to joining forces again to help the beautiful state of New Jersey.
*The NJ Tree Foundation is an organization dedicated to reforesting NJ’s most urban cities. With the help of sponsors and volunteers, the foundation has successfully planted over 155,000 trees state wide.
