For the next month or so, Dylan, and Y/N had grown closer than ever. In fact he was attending her physical therapy sessions whenever he wasn’t busy with hockey, or classes. She was grateful to have someone by her side, who understood her struggle as to why she hated being away from the ice.

Y/N had friends, of course she did, she was a ray of sunshine. She was amazing to be around, and people knew that. However she didn’t have friends that understood the love she had for skating. Having Dylan around was like a breath of fresh air for her, she finally had someone she could talk about her problems with.

Dylan didn’t mind her ranting, because ultimately he knew how she felt. He couldn’t imagine not being able to skate, let alone not being able to skate for the rest of the year. Y/N enjoyed that Dylan didn’t look at her wiyh pity, like she was just the girl who could no longer preform. He looked at her like she was someone who would recover, and would do something great.

Y/N enjoyed Dylan’s company, just as he had enjoyed hers. He enjoyed her company so much so, that he had invited her to almost all of his games. She attended as many as she could, most were home games. She may not have been able to skate herself, but she enjoyed watching Dylan, and his team.

He had invited her quite a few times to join him at the post hockey party that accrued after every home game, however she always had an excuse. “I’m busy.” “I would love to, but i have early class tomorrow.” “I promised my roommate i’d be home early.” “I’m actually hanging out with my friends tonight.”

She knew her excuses were pathetic, but she couldn’t bring herself to go to parties. Not after all that had happened, she mentally cursed herself for the way it all went down. Her couch told her she wasn’t ready, she told her! She just hadn’t listened. She thought she could do it, but she couldn’t, eventually possibly coasting her the future she wanted.

After what felt like an eternity, Dylan was finally able to convince Y/N to come to a party with him. The conversation had begun just after the two of them left the doctors office, at which her physical therapy sessions were held.

Dylan stopped walking for a moment, causing Y/N’s eyebrows to furrow. She turned towards the boy who stood a few inches taller than her, a look of confusion clear on her features. “Sunshine, i know you will most likely say no, but would you please consider going to the party tonight?” Y/N thought for a second, before shaking her head, “I don’t know, Duker.”

Dylan had a pleading look in his eyes as he turned towards the girl, a look of hope in his eyes, “Please? Come on Sunny! It’s a Saturday!” Y/N looked the boy in his eyes, she watched as he gave her a look. A look that she knew all too well. It was look Dylan gave her when he wanted her to do something with him. She mostly got the look when he wanted her to attend a party. It became a routine of Dylan’s, asking Y/N to come to parties with him, that is.

Y/N took one last look at the boy who still had that same pleading look on his face, before groaning. “Fine! One party, that’s it.” Dylan’s face lit up, and the words that left her mouth, a small squeal leaving his throat as a smile broke onto his face. “You won’t regret it!”

So there Y/N was, a couple of hours later stood in her dorm room, Dylan sat on her bed as she got ready. He couldn’t explain how excited he was that she finally agreed to go to a party with him. Dylan had told his team about the young girl on multiple occasions, however they’ve never seen the girl. They also didn’t know her real name. Dylan had been referring to Y/N as Sunny, or Sunshine since about a week into their friendship.

The entire hockey team had only known the girl as Sunny. That’s what Dylan had always called her in front of them, it never occurred to him that he didn’t ever tell the group her real name, nor showed them a photo of her.

Dylan sat not so patiently on the girls bed, as she finished putting on her lipgloss. Dyan had been complaining none stop since she started getting ready, “Can you hurry up, we’re going to be late.” Y/N rolled her eyes at the boy, a sarcastic smile on her face, “You cannot be late to a party, Dyl.” The forward let out another groan, throwing his head back, causing Y/N to laugh coming out of the bathroom.

As Y/N walks out, she smooths out her tight black leather skirt, the red corset hugging her body tightly. Y/N’s eyes meet Dylan, as his mouth opens slightly. Dylan takes a moment, before he speaks up, “You look great, Sunny. I’m glad you decided to come with me tonight.” Y/N smiled at the boy’s compliment, “Thank you, D. I’m glad i decided to attend as well.”

Eventually Y/N found herself in front of the hockey house, Dylan standing by her side, a soft smile on his face. Dylan asked her if she was ready to go in, to which she nodded. As the duo walked into the house, loud music overtook the girl, her face scanning for any familiar faces.

Y/N hadn’t seen anyone that she recognized, she moved her eyes forward deciding to ignore the unfamiliar feeling in her stomach. She finally moved her eyes forward, as Dylan had come to a stop. She was about to give the boy a confused face until she saw they had stopped in front of a group of guys, causing her face to flush.

“Sunshine, this is some of the guys i’ve been telling you about.” Y/N thought for a moment, before her face lit up, “Oh yes! The team, right, nice to meet you guys, i’ve heard a lot about you all!” Y/N look towards a taller boy, with a slight beard, and damp hair as he spoke, “Nice to meet you, Sunny, is it?”

Y/N laughed for a moment, before looking back up to the group that stood in front of her, “My name isn’t actually Sunny, you guys do know that, right?” One of the guys eyes widened, as he looked towards Dylan, “No we did not know that, we always kind of assumed your name was Sunny, because of the whole Sunshine thing.”

A smile once again takes over her features, as she playfully punched the boy stood beside her. “You never told them my real name, Dyl?” As the boy turns away embarrassed, he groaned, “I thought i did! I guess Sunny, and Sunshine have always just been what i say in front of them.”

Y/N smiled at her bestfriend, throwing her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. Dylan quickly hugged the girl back, before she pulled away, “Well my name is Y/N. Sunshine, and Sunny are just nicknames that Duker has picked up.” Dylan groaned again, “Whatever. I’m going to go get a drink, want anything Sun- Y/N?” Y/N let out a laugh at the boy, before nodding, “Just a water is fine.”

As the boy made his way to the kitchen, Y/N turned her attention back to the group in front of her. To her surprise the guys had already been staring at her, “So you’re who Dylan has been spending his time with?” Y/N blushes slightly at the sudden question, before nodding slightly, “I guess so? We’ve been hanging out a lot more recently, and he takes me to my physical therapy sessions sometimes. I’m sorry if i’ve been taking up all his t-”

The girl was quickly cut off by a boy with fluffy blonde hair, who if she had to guess would be Mark. “No, no. Don’t apologize, we just haven’t really seen Duker hang out with anyone who wasn’t the team. We’re glad he has someone who he can escape with.”

The boy stood beside him, who had assumed her name was Sunny spoke again, “He told us about the accident, we’re really sorry about that. We understand how hard being off the ice is. I can’t even imagine being off ice until next year. That must really suck, huh?”

Y/N looked towards her feet, as she suddenly felt on the spot. She hadn’t thought about the accident much anymore, at least not anywhere outside of physical therapy. Y/N nodded at the boy, “It’s been hard, but if i make sure to keep up with physical therapy, then i should be back the second the new season starts.”

Y/N was grateful when Dylan had finally gotten back with their drinks, him quickly saying something about the kitchen being packed. All she could do was nod, trying to be polite without sounding bitchy.

Y/N didn’t have a problem with Dylan’s teammates, in fact they seemed nice, but the last thing she wanted to do right now was think of the accident. That’s all she had been thinking about the last month or so, everything reminded her of it. The decorations hanging on her walls, the metals from comps, her teammates, everything. She hated the feeling, this feeling she had been feeling for the last month, but slowly it had been going away, with Dylan it was going away.

For what seemed like forever, Y/N followed Dylan around like a lost puppy. She wasn’t afraid to say she stuck by his side, she hadn’t known anyone besides him there. Well she did know the hockey team now, but she definitely wouldn’t say they were friends.

Dylan had decided he wanted to play beer pong with Rutger, Luca and Ethan. Sure enough Dylan had asked her to join, to which she quickly declined. Y/N was never a drinker, even before her accident. She would maybe drink once every couple of months, but now she had honestly sworn off drinking.

Mark stood beside Adam as his eyes drifted to Y/N. He wasn’t sure why, but he was intrigued by the girl. Maybe it was the fact she was a skater? Maybe it was that she was pretty? He may never know what drew him into her.

His thoughts were quickly cut off by Adam, who slapped his arm, “You’re staring.” Mark shook his head, taking one last look at the girl who was now sat on a couch, phone in her hand. “No i am not.”

Luca cut into their conversation by throwing in a quick, “You definitely were.” This caused Mark to let out a groan, throwing his head back against the wall he stood in front of. “Why don’t you ask her out?”

Mark looked towards Adam as if he had three heads, shaking his head quickly, “Absolutely not, dude i just met her!” Luca shrugged at he took a shot at Ethan, and Dylan’s cups, “You won’t ever know her if you don’t ask.”

“He’s right, Mark. She’s my bestfriend, i’m sure she’d say yes. She hasn’t really had time for a relationship, cause of the accident, but with summer coming up, i’m sure she’d like to try.” Adam smirked at Dylan’s words as an idea popped into his head, “Why don’t we make a bet?”

Mark raised his eyebrows at the younger boy, “What kind of bet?” Adam simply shrugged, throwing his arms around the dirty blonde. “I bet you.. Let’s say a hundred bucks, that you can’t get Y/N to fall for you. If she falls, you get a hundred bucks, if she doesn’t.. Then consider me a hundred dollars richer.”

Dylan was the first to protest, “Dude i just said she hasn’t had a relationship in a while, and your first thought is to fucking bet on her?” Adam once again shrugs, bringing Mark closer to him, “Just think about it.”

Y/N’s world came crashing down the moment her body went numb after trying to land a Quadruple Axel. Her vision was blurry as the medics stood above her, asking her questions that she couldn’t quite comprehend. Her breathing was heavy, and rapid as she was rolled onto a stretcher. She felt someone take hold of her ankle, untying her skate, as she cried out, “Stop! Please!”

To no ones surprise, they didn’t stop. Her ankle felt limp as they brought the stretcher up, wheeling her out of the arena. Y/N had no choice, but to watch as the lights passed by her, whines leaving her lips everytime they hit a bump.

When Y/N finally got wheeled into the back of the ambulance, her vision began blurring again, slowly losing her consciousness. She heard voices around her, as her head spun. She tried to understand the voices around her, just like she tried to keep her eyes open, but she was unsuccessful at both.

When Y/N had finally woken up, she looked around only to be met with the boring white walls of what she had assumed was a hospital room. As her eyes fluttered open, she saw her mother sitting beside her, her head down, with her hand holding onto her own. When she saw her eyes open slowly, she smiled, before saying she’d go get a doctor.

Y/N wasn’t sure how long had she had been there, or how much school she had missed. She mentally laughed to herself as she was worried about missing school. To anyone else it may have been silly, but not to Y/N. School was her escape, the same way the ice was. She never had the best home life, but being away in Michigan, a whole new state, was refreshing.

Her eyes landed on the door as her mother opened it, a doctor following close behind her. The woman smiled, as she flipped a page on her clipboard, “Mrs, Y/L/N. I’m Doctor Thomas, glad to see you awake.” Y/N gives her a small smile, before she speaks up, “How.. how long have i been here?”

The doctors eyes dropped down, as if trying to find a way to tell her, “You’ve been out for about five days. You took a major fall, resulting in you hitting your head. You’ll be out of skating until at least next year, and that’s if you attend all your physical therapy classes. You’ve been cleared of any signs of a concussion, however your ankle is definitely broken.” Y/N’s eyes began watering as the words left the doctors mouth, no skating?

It had been a whole week before Y/N was able to attend classes again. Per request of the doctor, and her mother she made sure she was a thousand percent ready to get back to classes. She was excited. Her mom had gone off back to Florida, and she could finally get back to her schooling.

So there Y/N was, a week later, on a Tuesday walking into University of Michigan with her crutches tucked tightly under her armpits. Y/N had gotten many looks on her way to English 2. Most were pity, some were worry. She ultimately decided to ignore the looks, believing they weren’t even worth a second glance.

Class hadn’t started when Y/N arrived. She took a seat towards the back of the classroom so she could easily avoid pushing her way through at the end of class on her crutches.

After Y/N had settled, a boy she had only seen around a couple of times took a seat beside her. “Hey.” Y/N looked up at the boy as he spoke. “Oh uh, hi?” the girl watched as he took a seat beside her. She glanced around the room to notice it was mostly empty, why is he sitting here?

“I’m Dylan, but you can call me Duke if you’d like.” her eyes drifted to the boy once more, scanning over him. “I’m Y/N, but you can call me Y/N.” the boy laughed at the girl, which caused a smile to overcome her features.

“Well, Y/N, i came here to say i’m sorry about what happened, you know. On the ice. I’m sure you’ve heard it a lot, but i know how much the ice can mean to one person, and you seemed to really love it.” Y/N couldn’t really place her finger on where she knew the boy from, but hearing him say he knew how much the ice could mean to someone sparked something in her brain. HOCKEY! He was on the hockey team, she was sure of it.

When she finally snapped out of her thoughts, or more so her investigation, she simply nodded. She didn’t trust herself to talk about the accident without crying, or at least a voice crack. When Dylan had taken notice of this he spoke once more, “I know we don’t know each other, but.. i, uh, i’m here if you want to talk about it, or anything, you know? Sometimes speaking to strangers is easier than speaking to someone you know.”

Her eyes moved up, meeting his, as the two of them smiled at one another softly, “Thank you, Duke. I’m sorry, but i have to ask, do i know you from somewhere? You seem really familiar.” She heard him chuckle lowly, a sense of comfort washed over her, as he sucked in a breath. “I play for the ice hockey team. Possibly seen me around, not sure. I’ve watched you preform a couple of times, maybe seen me in the crowd?” knew it. hockey.

Y/N always, always hated hockey players. She’s not too sure why, possibly the hockey player who broke her heart back in highschool. She had sworn herself off of hockey players since then. She moved around a lot growing up, so it was relatively easy for her to move on from him, or at least she told herself she had moved on.

“Yeah, probably.” Y/N turned her attention to the professor who had been speaking for a while, but she hadn’t noticed, too intrigued with the boy sat beside her. The class didn’t last much longer. She hadn’t really payed much attention to what was going on around her, as her thoughts were racing. Just as the girl finished packing up her things, the boy that had been in her thoughts spoke up, “Could i maybe, uh, get your number? I’m sorry if that’s weird, but i’ve seen you skate, and would really love to get to know you, Y/N.” She simply nodded, grabbing a sticky note, and writing her number down.

Call me sometime, Duke. I’d like to watch you skate sometime! you’re good company btw (: (000) - 000 - 0000

With that she put her pen away, folding the sticky note, handing it to him, and walking away. Of course she wasn’t going very far, very fast with the crutches that she had grown to hate tucked under her arms.

summary: for as long as y/n y/l/n could remember, her relationship with Jamie Drysdale has been shit on by outsiders. Everything finally comes crumbling down, and she begins to question the relationship.

Y/n, and Jamie had been friends for as long as the two of them could remember. They had learned pretty early on that their mothers knew each other in college, Y/n’s mother getting pregnant only a year after Jamie’s.

However the pair didn’t begin dating until she was 18, and he was 19. When they confessed Jamie had just gotten drafted to the Anaheim ducks, and Y/n had gotten early acceptance to University of Michigan.

It’s now two years later, and Jamie just got traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. Y/n knew for a fact it was taking a toll on Jamie, so she booked the next flight to Philadelphia out of Michigan.

Y/n’s eyes scanned her phone, as a sleeping Jamie laid curled into her side, his arm lazily thrown around her waist. Tears threatened to fall, as she continued to read the countless comments.

She sat there for a good five minutes reading the comments, before she choked out a sob. She covered her mouth, trying to contain the noise.

Moments later she feels Jamie stir awake, a worried expression on his face, “Y/n? What’s wrong?” She shook her head, as she couldn’t get words out.

Jamie looked into the girls eyes, pulling her into his embrace, tears began streaming down her face. She wrapped her arms around the defenseman as she began speaking, “They’re all so mean Jamie. Why do they have to be so mean?”

Jamie pulled away from Y/n, bringing his hand up to wipe away the tears that fell, “Who, sweet girl?”

Y/n sucked in a breath, trying to regain her composure looking up at the man sat beside her, “Everyone in my comments, Jamie. They’re saying the meanest things imaginable.”

Once she was finally able to gain her composure back, she passed the phone that was now sat beside her to Jamie. His eyes scanned over the comments, his mouth agape.

As his eyes continued to pass over the comments his jaw tightened. He put the phone aside, his eyes making their way to his girlfriend, “Baby, none of that is true. I can’t do better, you are all i need. Please believe that.”

Y/n simply nodded, despite the thoughts that conjured within her. Her mind was racing, a thousand thoughts per second, as Jamie pulled her into a tender kiss.

“We’ll be alright, i’ll fix this, sweetheart. I promise.”

She instantly feels a connection with him, the two becoming friends easily.

Trevor was never good at express how he felt. He was always the type of person to hold in every emotion, until it all came to the surface causing him to lash out. Him being with Y/n helped him a lot. They always knew how to help him through his emotions.

That was until Jamie Drysdale got traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. Jamie had been Trevor’s bestfriend for years. He was so hurt when he heard the news of the trade.

Jamie got on a flight that night to make his way to Philadelphia, causing Trevor not to get a proper goodbye. This absolutely crushed the boy. Even though Y/n was his support system he couldn’t bring himself to speak to them about how he was feeling.

Trevor hadn’t gone home that night which caused worry to fill Y/n’s mind. Their thoughts were going to the absolute worst when the left wing didn’t pick up any of their calls.

Y/n went to bed in complete worry that night. They tossed, and turned that entire night, worry coursing through them. It hadn’t been until the next morning, that they received a text from Jack Hughes. This message caused their worry to wash away partly.

hey, y/n. trev is safe. he stayed at a hotel last night, im sorry i didn’t tell you sooner. he should be home soon. love you

Y/n

thank you for telling me jack. it’s okay, i’m just glad he’s safe. love you too.

A slight weight was lifted off their shoulders as they now knew Trevor was safe, but it left them wondering why he didn’t confine in them. Trevor had always gone to them when he needed to express his true emotions, this left Y/n feeling upset.

Did he no longer trust them?

Their thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door opening, a very tired looking Trevor stepping inside, with a backpack hung over his shoulders.

Y/n quickly stood up, making their way to the brunette boy, a hesitant look on their face. Trevor looked down at Y/n, a sorrowful look on his face. Y/n hesitated slightly before wrapping their arms around him. He quickly wrapped his arms around their waist, allowing his head to fall to the crook of their neck.

“What’s going on Trev? Please talk to me. I cannot have you closing up again, you were doing so good.” Y/n spoke as they ran their fingers through the boys hair.

Trevor let out a loud breath, “I’m sorry, sweetheart. Jamie leaving has really taken a lot out on me. It’s only been a few hours, and i feel like it’s suffocating me.”

Y/n pulled away from the tight hug to look into Trevor’s eyes. They brought their hand up to his face, to wipe the tear that fell, “Trevor it’s okay to feel that way. I mean you lost your bestfriend, but you can’t avoid speaking about your feelings like you use to. I was so worried about you, i barely got any sleep last night. I couldn’t sleep not knowing where you were.”

Trevor’s glaze softened at the sight of the person stood in front of him, as they spoke softly to him. His eyes furrowed sadly as he spoke, “I’m so sorry, Y/n/n. I never meant to worry you, i just needed time alone to process everything. I’m not sure why, it probably would’ve been easier if you helped me through it.”

but i just find my way back in.

Y/n’s eyes stayed on Trevor as he looked at the ground, a saddened expression on his face. Y/n softly said his name, causing him to look up, meeting their eyes, “It’s okay, love. Just promise me you won’t do that again. I’m here for you, anything you need.”

Trevor smiled softly at Y/n, bringing them into his embrace once again, “Just need you here with me.”
