Anyway, I haven't done any new pen & paper sketches in a long time, but I recently had a good opportunity to do so, and this was one of the new sketches I did.

Back around Christmas of 2020 @alfafilly​ and I made a series of seasonally-appropriate pinups… Turns out the base is quite suitable for other outfits too, and now you get more for your bunny! Er, money! (Evidently this is a cabaret club AU now)(Also this time around, I did Forte myself too lol).

question for any of the cast: can any of you apply lipstick to your beaks, or does it look silly?

To summarize, yes, lipstick is still a thing even among a beak-having populace! It is typically only applied to the soft lip part of the beak, with cosmetics on the hard part typically exclusive to theatrical purposes or other costumed occasions.

More like Aprilfaire, amirite? ...Anyway, I haven't done any new pen & paper sketches in a long time, but I recently had a good opportunity to do so, and I so I did!

Spring weather and gardening was on my mind, so who better to appreciate an activity of gentle nature than Olivia?

It's spring in the city and the flowers are starting to pop up! The perfect time to bring back Rhys' boundless energy with this finalized piece I started last fall.

Beyond the self-evident reasons for drawing, I wanted to try to capture at least some of the qualities of the highly polished cel art from 80s anime / the polished up official art accompanying said anime. It may have turned into more simplistic digital painting in places, but in any case I'm very happy with the result!

(I think she's listening to bird!Miki Matsubara -- Just try listening to Stay With Me while looking at this pic and you'll wish I had the time to animate her dancing to it... Or at least, I wish I could devote the time to it!)

I had an idea the other day and had to rough sketch it on paper... Later on I drew a more finished version. You can't see it here, but she's wearing her Seepage hoodie and playing the new Kataklysm RPG on her phone.

To: Viktoria. Hope your Valentine's Day was full of hearts and arrows, or maybe daggers. But does it ever bother you that any hequevar, even the lowliest naval radio tech, has longer legs than you?

It may be a single answer, but does it still count as a double feature?

Anyway, I just finished a main comic page, so I wanted to take a moment to draw a couple of Avania Mail panels before starting on the next page of Avania proper... I might have got carried away with the line and render quality on this one.

Or toasty valentine, perhaps? In any case, it's been a moment since I've "updated" this base for yet another holiday, and classic Lindas aren't always easy to find this time of year, so once again enjoy this endlessly adaptable outfit as modeled by these two lovely large-framed ladies!

(This pair of poses has been around for a while now... Originally, I made a concept sketch to start with, then Filly penciled up Linda and I inked and flatted both characters. After that, Filly gave them some lovely shading, and I've made various holiday versions ever since.)

The New Years Update (2025)

What a year 2024 was... Here at the end of January, it has now been one year since my father passed. I have had so much to do since that cold winter night, and the loss still weighs heavily on me. Though not all last year's changes have been sad, the last 12 months have been the most exhausting of my life. Time is precious, and though it is ultimately a finite resource, I look forward to a time where I can spend more of it on enjoyable hard work, instead of having to juggle so many competing--often emotionally draining--obligations.

Much as it pained me to forgo working on art projects, Avania in particular, in 2024 I was just not in a state to devote myself to it as I have in the past. I am feeling more hopeful now though, and while my free time is still in desperately short supply, I have the motivation to chip away at the few remaining pages of Issue No.8 and see it through. (When I do post these pages, you may also see how their content was a motivating factor as well!)

Owing to the ongoing obligations of fatherhood, my day job, moving, and managing my late father's estate, I cannot say when the next comic update will happen. I am about halfway through drawing the next page though, so if I can maintain momentum, I hope to be able to finish off the chapter / Issue this Spring. For the next issue, I may choose to carry on with a sporadic but more frequent update schedule based on scenes rather than the 10-page chapters I traditionally ran with.

Once again, I must thank everyone for your support. It is very encouraging to read so many comments across the platforms I post Avania to, and I'm glad that the comic, setting, and characters are meaningful to other people too.

Owing largely to the unfortunate turn of events early last year, production has taken much longer than usual.
